Rank the 7 Main Moore Girls

JarvioJarvio EnglandPosts: 4,241MI6 Agent
If this topic takes off, I might start one for the other actors in the near future (but combine Lazenby with Dalton for obvious reasons).

So, how would you rank order the main bond girl of each of Moore's 7 films?

Here's mine:

1 - Solitaire (LALD)
I think she's an excellent bond girl, and has always been my second favourite ever after Honey Rider. I don't mind the tarot card story, and thought Solitaire was not only gorgeous but pretty well acted too.

2 - Melina Havelock (FYEO)
Besides the ridiculous close up shot of her face with the greek music when she whitnesses her parent's death, I thought she was a pretty solid bond girl. Assertive, good looking, and has a real motive.

3 - Octopussy (OP)
She's not exactly a favourite, but she's ok and plays a significant role.

4 - Anya Amasova (TSWLM)
I assume many people will rank her higher. I honestly can't see why. On the plus side she's an ok bond girl who is assertive, plays a key role, competitive with bond and so on. But I didn't like her wooden acting. She seemed emotionless. I know spies are often like that, but to me it seemed more of a case of bad acting - sorry barbara fans!

5 - Mary Goodnight (TMWTGG)
She was obviously a poor bond girl, but I'm ranking her here for comedy reasons.

6 - Stacey Sutton (AVTAK)
Ok, she is not very good. As a huge AVTAK fan, I have never denied what people say about stacey. But you know what, I still didn't think she was THAT bad. Not bad enough to spoil the film for me by any means. A poor bond girl, but I do think there's worse.

7 - Holly Goodhead (MR)
She had potential. But her pathetic wooden acting just spoils any potential she had. I'm surprised that she doesn't get more hate. The woman can't bloody act. Either that or she was underacting on purpose. "Hang on James"...
1 - LALD, 2 - AVTAK, 3 - LTK, 4 - OP, 5 - NTTD, 6 - FYEO, 7 - SF, 8 - DN, 9 - DAF, 10 - TSWLM, 11 - OHMSS, 12 - TMWTGG, 13 - GE, 14 - MR, 15 - TLD, 16 - YOLT, 17 - GF, 18 - DAD, 19 - TWINE, 20 - SP, 21 - TND, 22 - FRWL, 23 - TB, 24 - CR, 25 - QOS

1 - Moore, 2 - Dalton, 3 - Craig, 4 - Connery, 5 - Brosnan, 6 - Lazenby

Nice list James. Great to see at least one other fan of Stacy on here. :)

    1. Solitaire Age 22- Certainly the most unique Bond girl. Also probably the best actress of the RM era.
Tricking her with the cards was perhaps not the nicest thing to do.

    2. Octopussy Age 38 - Great screen presence and a good match for Roger. Love her Octopus robe. Not much screen time actually. Too bad she smokes. Doesn't actually accompany Bond on the mission!

    3. Stacy Sutton Age 30- Finally a Bond girl that holds a regular 9-5 job and has fluffy cats. Smart, sexy, and helps Bond with Geological stuff that he doesn't understand.

    4. Anya Amasova Age 30- Wooden acting, but still memorable. Perhaps the first Bond girl that was an equal to Bond? Very refreshing after the Mary Goodnight bimbo.

    5. Holly Goodhead Age 32- Appreciated her more after Napoleon Plural compared her to a Lauren Bacall film-noir dame. Acting skills are still not the greatest. Oh well...

    6. Melina Havelock- Age 24 I'm not a huge fan of the ultra-long straight hair. Only 1 year older than Lynn Holly Johnson! Getting mixed messages here about which girl is too young for Roger ?

    7. Mary Goodnight- Age 32 Really beautiful. Kind of wasted with a bad role as a bimbo agent.
    My current 10 favorite:

    1. GE 2. MR 3. OP 4. TMWTGG 5. TSWLM 6. TND 7. TWINE 8.DN 9. GF 10. AVTAK

On the basis of sheer fanciability, I'd personally go for:

    1. Stacy
    2. Melina
    3. Mary Goodnight
    4. Solitaire
    5. Anya
    6. Holly
    7. Octopussy

but if I could nominate girls with smaller roles I'd want to move these ones to places at least half way up my personal list: Miss Caruso (LLD), Bianca (OP), Manuela (MR) and the "If I can be of any further assistance... anything at all..." hotel girl in OP. :x
Critics and material I don't need. I haven't changed my act in 53 years.

    1. Maud Adams (2 movies/twice the fun!)
    2. Barbara Bach (yes she's wooden but her character is so much more interesting than the usual Bond Girl)
    3. Jane Seymour (the innocent Bond Girl! - great chemistry and can act!)
    4. Carole Bouquet (another strong female character for Moore to play off of!)
    5. Tanya Roberts (Tanya's beauty is more impressive than Britt's role or Lois' acting)
    6. Britt Ekland (I'm tempted to list Maud twice! Was she a bad bond girl or just given the worst possible role?)
    7. Lois Chiles (not just wooden, but really a bit boring too)

    1. Anya Amasova - The most beautiful Bond girl, period.
    2. Solitaire -She was beautiful. Typical Bond girl though for Moore-era: Not too much input
    3. Dr Goodhead - I liked her, good to look at and the right age for Roger.
    4. Octopussy - I preferred Maud Adams more TMWTGG, but she was fine here also.
    5. Melina - She seemed like a tough cookie and could hold her own without Bond.

I would like to stop here. Both Stacy Sutton and Goodnight where absolutely horrible Bond girls.

'Ridiculous close-up?' Really? So how is she meant to react after Gonzales kills her parents in Cold blood in front of her face. The expressions we see are horror, disbelief, shock and slow revenge. All in her face. All in one moment. It sets you up for the film ahead.

I made that post in 2012. But yeah, I get what your saying. What makes it ridiculous is the music that plays over it.

    1 - Solitaire
    2 - Melina
3 - Holly (I got used to her eventually)
    4 - Octopussy
    5 - Stacey
6 - Anya (Her acting is atrocious)

The only ones I like were octopussy and solitaire. Stacey reminded me of Vicki Vale in Batman, yeah she's sometimes helpful, but ends up having to get rescued. It's strange because I have no problem with Vale in Batman, but Stacey is just....eh.

    1. Carole Bouquet as Melina Havelock.
I think I feel in love with her when I watched this film as a kid. By far the most prettiest Bond Girl ever. :x :x Her storyline was great and her acting was good but face it. There's only one reason why she is up here.

    2. Jane Seymour as Solitare.
Innocent, Young and very unique as a Bond Girl. The producers had made a terriffic choice in casting her.

    3. Barbara Bach as Anya Amasova.
Acting was pretty bad but she was the first of the Bond's equal thing that every Bond girl from now on loves to sprout out. She was also pretty memorable.

    4. Lois Chiles as Dr Holly Goodhead.
Entertaining and worked well with Bond.

    5. Maud Adams as Octopussy.
She was a good character, though Maud never really spun my wheels. I wish we saw her more often in the film. The film is named after her for crying out loud.

    6. Britt Ekland as Mary Goodnight.
Really irritating as a Bimbo but it was a good idea having her spend most of the last act in a bikini.

    7. Tanya Roberts as Stacey Sutton.
Okay now the age-gap is starting to REALLY show. Sutton screams way too much and looks like she is Bond's caregiver from the retirement home.

    1. Carole Bouquet as Melina Havelock.

Very beautiful, enigmatic, and tough. Her storyline is intriguing and although her acting style is a bit deadpan, I think Bouquet does a solid job. I think it helps that she appears in my favorite Roger Moore Bond movie.

    2. Maud Adams as Octopussy.

An intelligent, mature, independent woman, she is more age-appropriate for 007 than most Bond Girls, and the gorgeous Adams handles the role quite well.

    3. Jane Seymour as Solitare.

One of the prettiest of Moore's Bond Girls and Seymour does an admirable job of conveying Solitare's fear and vulnerablity.

    4. Barbara Bach as Anya Amasova.

Nice to look at, but I don't think much of her acting. She's helped by the fact that her character plays a more interesting part in the overall plot of the movie than the typical Bond Girl.

    5. Lois Chiles as Dr Holly Goodhead.

Blandly pretty and the acting by Chiles is pretty bland too. But at least she's portraying a doctor and Chiles successfully depicts her as a reasonably intelligent woman.

    6. Britt Ekland as Mary Goodnight.

Speaking of "reasonably intelligent", poor Britt Ekland is stuck with a character who is just the opposite. I don't blame Ekland because I believe that's what the filmmakers wanted, but it's annoying nevertheless.

    7. Tanya Roberts as Stacey Sutton.

Very attractive woman portraying the most irritating Bond Girl of them all. I think that's due to a combination of the script and the acting by Roberts, but at any rate she ranks dead last for me.

    Figure I'd update my list.

    1. Holly Goodhead - Brains, beauty, sophistication, charm. The whole package.
    2. Anya Amasova - Pulled off the romance in TSWLM really well.
    3. Solitaire - The film is really sexist with the virginity thing, but she's beautiful, a unique girl as a tarot reader and the acting is on point.
    4. Octopussy - A mature woman for a mature Bond.
    5. Melina Havelock - Pretty and I like what they tried to do with her in the story but the acting came off as aloof and fake.
    6. Stace Sutton - Was half Moore's age, annoying and not really a convincing geologist. JAMES!
    7. Mary Goodnight - The writers made her a dumb blonde bikini stereotype. She had no reason to be in the movie. Yuck!
