QoS Pre-title seq Pinstripe suit

toutbruntoutbrun Washington, USAPosts: 1,501MI6 Agent
Hi,

I would like to have this suit made but I can't really make a list of all the specifications. What should I tell the tailor about the lapels, etc..

And the main concern is that I think that the pinstripe is pink. But I'm not sure. Anyone knows better than me?

I know it has turn ups unlike any other Quantum suit.
Away at Boot Camp, won't be back until April the earliest.

Some of the details of the Tom Ford QoS suits are:

    -single-breasted
    -notch lapels
-3 buttons (but lapels are rolled to the 2nd button)
    -double-vented
    -pick-stitching
    -straight flapped pockets
    -ticket pocket
    -5-button surgeon's cuffs
-side adjusters rather than belt loops
    -tapered waist
    -wide "skirt"

Also, I believe the suit from the PTS & Siena chase was navy blue with light blue pinstripes, as seen here: http://screenmusings.org/QuantumOfSolace/pages/QoS_0152.htm

If you're interested in having a replica suit made, Magnoli does one for a reasonable price: http://www.magnoliclothiers.com/quantum-suit-by-magnoli-clothiers-tailor-made-suits-p-247.html

Very poor pictures, but couldn't get anything decent/sharp under artificial light.

Costume card from Siena chase. swatches on left are 'un-dirtied' fabric. Stripe is definitely blue and not that light in colour - more like a royal blue. Stripe is also not solid - equally spaced with thread same colour as the base weave i.e. navy.

Shirt that goes with this outfit is very pale blue - much paler than costume card of one worn in final scene of CR.

I have a dark charcoal with white pinstripe version of this suit which arrived from Magnoli only this last week.

And a navy blue one with the light pinstripe on its way. Very nice.

Hey! I would love to see the details of it. Pictures and info, like what sort of fabric did you ask and did you ask for things like 'fully canvassed' or 'hand stitched things'.

You can PM me if you want. I would consider this option (Magnoli) if I think it's up to the challenge.

But I must admit that 450$ is cheap.

Long story, short story, but I have the Quantum suit in midnight blue already, which is the one from the Greene party in QoS. Love it, and use it all the time. There are some pics up of it already. Search 'fit of quantum suit', that should turn them up. That suit was the hand stitched lapels, not fully canvassed, with the cashmere wool blend.

I didn't know a terrific amount about the different cloths, relative to the weather here in the South, and so went round Macys and looked at the labels. ;)

Anyway, to my delight the fit for this MTM suit was pretty much bang on, so I figure I can order what I like. I like the look of the 3 piece blue pinstripe suit from the beginning of QoS, but would never wear a waistcoat here, Im almost the lone suit wearer in the office as it is. So I figured I would have the Quantum suit but with the blue pinstripe cashmere wool blend and fully canvassed this time, which gives it a bit of extra stiffness. Not that I felt it needed it, but I'm just curious what that means, and its only an extra $75.

Anyway, somewhere along the line my order got a bit confused and I got what I wanted but in dark charcoal with white pinstripe. Impressively exactly the same fit, but not quite what I ordered. So, a blue one is now being made and I'm making my mind up whether to keep this one.

I will have bash at pics tomorrow. HTH.

I guess I'm too picky. I'm sure I would be surprised with Magnoli, but I just feel that a tailored suit, someone making it from your body is just perfect. I know you can have it altered, but...

And I don't really like to think that some poor woman in China will make mine. I prefer to give my money to a local, good tailor, one where I can touch the fabrics and where my order will be with the fabric I ordered (!). I don't know, there is something about China that cannot equal a Montreal Canada made suit by a real tailor.

Of course, it's gonna be a longer process because I have to give him all the details and we have to find the good fabric, but again... I don't know. I'm sure I will be surprised by your pictures and I am really excited to see them.

What fabric should I ask for a Pinstripe suit? And what fabric for the QoS Dark Brown suit?

It is true you cant have a bespoke 3 fitting suit made via post, but then you cant have that done for much less than twice the cost of these suits.

I took mine to possibly the best tailor here, and he concluded it did'nt need adjusting at all. I think there has to be a degree of luck in that, and the more unusual the body shape I guess the harder it would be to get right from modifying a standard template rather than buiding one from scratch around the individual. If its works for you, its hard to beat though.

Its good your conscience wants to keep your home nations GDP up. :D

I love how you sport this suit on the last picture.

I am surprised, it does look very good. The lapels are not the same as TF but I don't think the TF will look good on everybody. They are kind of dandy-esque.

I like it. I want to be the first to say that You look great!

I must admit it looks great. The only thing I think would be to make your pants a little shorter (the left one?).

Thanks. Its all the suit. I guess I'm going to have to keep it now!

For the next one I've added turnups on the trousers and different adjusters, as per the 3 piece suit on screen. Just to change them up a bit. I'm not desperate for screen accurate, I just like the look.

The brown Bolivia suit is a tricky colour. I think you would need some specific photos from Indy to get that right.

    Cheers.

120 Cool Cashmere in dark brown is recommended apparently.

Its the made to measure thing. It makes a HUGE difference if you can get it right.

The big problem is that everything else you own will immediately look and feel like it doesnt fit! :))

In the first caps, when in the car, the shirts looks white, but in the darker area, it looks gray. What would you say the color is? Exactly the one in the darker place with M or something in between?

Well now I know that it's not white because M's shirt is bright white. But is it grey or pale blue?

After looking on the screenmusings.org site I'd go with light grey.

I tend to think the shirt is pale/sky blue in order to provide continuity from the ending of Casino Royale. That said, Bond's suit underwent a very noticeable change in between the 2 movies, so obviously continuity between the 2 was not a high priority.

I know what you mean about the shirt looking looking light grey...but I think its the lighting and the fact that the shirt is supposed to be dirty....also if the suit is blue and the tie is blue why would they team it with a grey shirt?

Blue & light grey do blend well together I think.
  • RANDRAND Posts: 124MI6 Agent
Yeah I suppose you are right..after all the Montenegro tie is blue and silver/grey. But It just seems more in keeping with Bond that he would choose a blue shirt with that outfit.

Just found Holden's post in this thread mentioning the colour of the shirt fabric of his 'Sienna Chase' costume card.

You're right RAND, it's blue and just shows how different colours can appear on screen etc.

I might have been right about the shirt but SO wrong about blue and grey not going together...after all nobody ever said that light grey clouds clash with a blue sky!! DHOO

My quantum/pinstripe hybrid of this suit has now arrived, and I think its the best of the 3 I've had made. Maybe because of the heavier material, 8.5oz Italian pure wool/cashmere with classic chalk stripe, and fully canvassed.

Wont bore you with pics this time, as its basically the same suit but with turnups on the trousers. ;)
