JAMES BOND actor Daniel Craig has been offered a multi-million pound deal to become the longest serving 007 of all time.

It would see Craig, 43, star in EIGHT of the spy flicks – one more than Roger Moore, whose seven appearances spanned 12 years.

Legendary Bond producer Michael G Wilson said: “Daniel’s been a terrific Bond, a superb actor and a terrific man. The fans love him and I don’t think there’s a better actor to play the part.”

Chester-born Craig, below, is currently shooting Skyfall, his third Bond film. And in an exclusive interview with The People, Wilson told how he would love him to do five more.

He said: “It’s certainly something we’ll be discussing with him once we finish shooting Skyfall.

“Filming has gone very well so far and I’d love Daniel to surpass Roger’s record and do eight pictures. Daniel’s been an absolute pleasure to be around because he takes the role so seriously. There’s really no one more passionate about making these films work than him – he’s a film maker’s dream.

“A lot of people have said Daniel’s been their favourite Bond since Sean Connery and I can’t argue with them. He’s doing a great job.”

Although Wilson did not reveal financial details, it is thought that any future appearances would each earn Craig more than the £8million he is reportedly being paid for Skyfall.

Casino Royale, his Bond debut movie, took over £300million at the box office to become the most profitable 007 film in history. Wilson, whose stepfather Cubby Broccoli started the film franchise in 1962, said fans were in for a treat with Craig’s appearance in Skyfall – comparing it to the finest work of iconic Bond Connery who made six official Bond films.
Roger Moore and Sean Connery James Bond

The 69-year-old New Yorker said: “The director Sam Mendes and Daniel are taking it back to a 60s feel – more Sean. I think that’s what the fans wanted. There’s a magical Goldfinger feel surrounding it all. It’s all very exciting. I can’t wait for people to see the movie because I think we’re making a very special Bond.”

Wilson has been producer or executive producer on 13 Bond flicks and is now co-producer with his step- sister Barbara Broccoli. Speaking at last Monday’s premiere of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, which stars Craig as journalist Mikael Blomkvist, he said there are big plans to mark the Bond films’ 50th anniversary in 2012.

Several events are set to coincide with Skyfall’s release next winter, including an extravaganza featuring all the actors to have officially played the spy. They are Connery, 81, George Lazenby, 72, Moore, 84, Timothy Dalton, 65, Pierce Brosnan, 58, and Craig.

Wilson said: “We’d really like to get all six together. We’re trying to find a way for fans to celebrate with us because they’ve been the reason the Bond films have been the success they have.”

One plan is to open up Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire. Wilson said: “We’re looking at ways to show off sets from the latest film, as well as props and perhaps give movie master classes for film fans.

“At the moment these are just ideas so you’ll have to wait and see. Whatever happens it will be a special year for Bond fans.”

I personally would love to see DC do one or two more films, but eight? People already say he looks to old...

And about the other things Wilson said, I like the idea with that "60's Goldfinger feel" for Skyfall and that they will try to get all six Bond actors together for the 50th anniversary! :-) (And the possibility to visit the Pinewood Studios!)

Wow! I would hope that would mean we would get a new Bond film every two years.

If we do, that means DC will be 54 when his last 007 film is released. That'll be pushing things a bit.

But Roger Moore was 57 by the time they were ready to let him go...So, I guess Daniel Craig is gonna be Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson's "Roger Moore" for this Bond generation. ?:)

Hey I'm not happy about it either and I didn't mean to give off the impression that I am, but what can you do? I mean it's not like we the fans, have the power to stop this crap from happening!

We always have the option of kidnapping Daniel and Barbara and keeping them on a remote tropical island where they can't cause any more damage. Michael G Wilson is harmless. I mean, the man has obviously gone crackers. Eight films indeed. :))

Oh, come off it, you Craig-haters. This article is nothing but hype. "We'd love for him to do eight films". . ."We'll discuss it," blah, blah, blah. There's nothing in Wilson's comments that justify the lead of this story. I'm willing to bet it will be back to single-picture contracts after Skyfall, and then it will all depend on box office and the producers' whims. I remember Pierce Brosnan saying after DAD that he'd been invited back for a fifth film and that he'd do it. . .and how did that one turn out?

I think if there's any grain of truth to this article, Daniel Craig would be extremely foolish to stay on for five more films because Roger Moore had reached the point of overexposure after For Your Eyes Only but RM had continued to stay on despite that fact and Moore became stale. I believe even the Craig-haters want nothing more than to avoid staleness with the James Bond character...Although the Craig-haters probably thought DC was stale after Casino Royale but that was just them being cynical movie goers.

I don't think many actors these days would stay on ( In any role ) for that many movies. I'm sure after four of five at most they'd want a change, and action Movies are hard work ( especially for these nancy boy Actors, who've never had a real job ).

Yeah, they're all a bit over the hill though aren't they? I mean, have you seen the state of Lazenby's nose of late? :o Go on, google him now, you'll see what I mean.

It would be nice to see Connery up to anything, frankly. It's like he's died already. :( Same goes with long retired Gene Hackman I suppose.

Actually it would be good to have them pop up and present at the Oscars wouldn't it?

Interesting... Although I like DC's Bond but I don't think he will stay on that long! Nothing but advertising trick to promote SKYFALL. Simple as that.

Oh dear.... looks like some people might have to wait a little longer :)) :))

Although, really, I can't see Craig doing more than 1, maybe 2 after Skyfall. Not that I would complain if he did ;) but he seems quite determined to do other films as well as Bond, and doing back to back movies do take their toll...

    Will be interesting to see!

Always thought a get together would be for something like that ( or a Vogue cover ) especially if the Academy were to bestow JB with some sort of special achievment award ... Maybe in its 50th year ;)

Feels like Craig has already done Eight already. :))
As for getting Connery involved in a Bond celebration,
    I can't ever see that Happening. :#

There is no way Craig is going to do five more films, so all you haters just settle down. I wish he would just to shut them all up :))

Let's hope that the franchise won't suffer any financial or legal troubles, like in 1989-1995 and 2010.

given his lackluster effect on the american Box office, perhaps Simon Pegg would of been a better choice as a Blonde Bond, as he seems to be popular to American audiances and his movies make money. :p :))

Henry Cavill would be old enough to take over Bond after Craig retires at that age.

Mabey with all his recent sucess H Cavill doesn't need Bond. :))

I don't think that the example is equivalent. There is something so iconic about Bond that makes it difficult. Besides as TP points out Cavill may not need Bond, and EON are notorious for being cheapskate. It's an empirical question though, so we'll find out in time.

Hmm, somehow one gets the feeling this might be bluff. A pic in today's paper has Craig on the red carpet (see link below) with his beau, and he's actually got grey hair now, not just stubble. WTF? How in all honesty can he continue as Bond, I mean he's filming now with it. Have I dropped into a parallel universe? If Dragon Tatoo picks up, he could well bow out with this one methinks.

Mrs Craig looks more 'Bond girl' than any in living memory to my mind. As far as DC is concerned I'm saying nothing until we see more.
