Mistakes

We all know, or should know, that it is close to impossible for a movie to have no mistakes. And although, for the most part, these mistakes are trivial i would like to see how many we can name.
So please, humour the idea and point out a few mistakes :007)

Goldfinger: During the pre-title sequence Bond destroys the heroin plant of a South American drug lord. Why is it that this plant is being guarded by white anglo guys who look like they are from the U.S.? Did the United States have a deal with Latin American drug dealers or something? Was president Johnson doing business with Cuban dictator Fidel Castro?

Continuity error : In You Only Live Twice, Bond told Moneypenny that he took first on oriental language yet in Tomorrow Never Dies, he can't type at Wai Lin's computer!

just to add to the japanese speaking, if you compair the books to the movies, Bond doesn't even speak Japanese; only French and German.

in GoldenEye at the dam jump, for about half a second, u can see the cast filming the shot

In TWINE, the missle that fires from the Qboat is the same missle fired twice.

Licence to Kill: When Pam takes a picture of Bond and Q with the X-Ray camera, it takes an X-Ray photo of Bond and Q and the picture, but how can you take an X-Ray of a picture of a person?!

Diamonds Are Forever: The announcer at the Circus Circus Casino says Zambora was found near Nairobi, South Africa, but Nairobi is located in Kenya!

During the final underwater battle in "Thunderball", Emilio Largo rips off Bond's blue scuba mask. Bond then pulls a black scuba mask off a dead SPECTRE frogman and puts it on. But when the camera shows Bond's face again he is wearing the blue mask that Largo had ripped off just seconds earlier. I noticed that the 1st time I saw "Thunderball" on TV as kid in the days prior to owning a VCR.

In "You Only Live Twice", Bond clearly tells Dikko Henderson that he has never been to Japan before. However in "From Russia with Love"(shot 4 yrs prior to YOLT) Bond clearly states to Tatiana that he and M had been in Tokyo once where he had an interesting experience. Therefore, the cinematic Bond character has been to Japan prior to YOLT.

In The Living Daylights when Bond pulls up outside the Hotel Isle De France in Tangier after tailing Pushkin, he bumps into a pedestrian with his car.

When Bond is being pursued by Fiona Volpe through the Junkanoo in Thunderball, a small dog can be seen urinating.

In LTK, Bond strolls right up to the ticket counter. No line, no wait, no nothing. Then, when he asks what all the extra security is for, the friendly neighborhood ticket teller tells him there's a dangerous drug dealer loose :o I've never been to an airport like that. (and have a good flight)

"They're searching for a dangerous criminal, will that be smoking or non?"

In The Man With the Golden Gun when J.W. Peppers wife wants to buy one of those cute little elephants, Pepper reply's by saying, "Elephants! Thems Democrats Maybel." An elephant is the symbol of the republican party, while the donkey is the symbol of the democratic party.

Also in TMWTGG, the gangster in the pre-titles sequence has a silenced gun, but goes off with a full bang when fired.

Its always fun to watch Bond's hair as her crawls through the pipes in Dr. No, his hair fixes itself, or it gets more messed up than it was when theres no reason for it to. And its interesting to see how, in Goldfinger, Auric Goldfinger's drink keeps changing levels. At one point he's almost out of it and then suddenly its half full again! I would love a glass that re-filled itself. :p

Actually Tiger, I thought Pepper said "Elephants? We're Democrats Mabel."

Another from LTK, it's not a mistake, just something hard to believe. When Bond walks up to the barkeep and asks him where he can find Pam Bouvier, this tough looking hombre politely points her out for him. I mean here you go, I just set you up. Aren't I the nicest you've ever met? :) My job is to make sure good looking guys like you find their dates.

In Dr. No, as Bond is being pursued from the airport, the driver pulls onto a side street. When the fight ensues, Bond picks up the driver for one last punch. The punch starts with one hand, the camera view changes, and the punch finishes with the other hand.

In TMWTGG, the thing that is the most perplexing is: Why is a sheriff from Louisiana shopping for a car on his vacation in Thailand?

In TSWLM, XXX is clearly concerned as the Lotus enters the water. But later she states she stole the plans for the car, and even uses the underwater mines. Earlier as Bond gets up from the pyramids show, the extras in the background instantaneously change seats. Finally, as the globe tracks the position of the nuclear missiles, it shows the missiles proceed laterally, or sideways, until they reach their targets.

And as a side question, when Bond and XXX check out the Atlantis in the Lotus, it appears they come upon the control room. But that's in the Liparus...

In the trailers for FRWL, every main cast member is mentioned, except Sean Connery.

In TMWTGG when Goodnight runs up to Bond after he has killed Scaramanga and says, "Where is he?" you can actually see his legs in the background.

TSWLM- After the boat takes Bond to Cairo, he then walks to the HQ on the road where he meets Gogol. This structure in which they had their "HQ" is actually Abu Simbel, built by Ramses II. The problem with this is that Abu Simbel is hundreds and hundreds of kilometres from Cairo. A long walk indded!

Octopussy- When Bond is riding in the back of Carina’s truck and the driver of the other truck looks at her, and when it shows a shot of Carina, the driver is wearing a helmet and has no beard, but when the camera shoots back at the driver from head on, he is wearing a hat and has a beard.

Dunno if it's a mistake or not, but Bond clearly says "Gracias, Carina" but she has been credited ever since as Bianca.

Similarly in Moonraker, Chang (as said in credits) seems to be pronounced 'Char'.

Well these are the ones from Dr No that I can remember off-hand that haven't been mentioned yet:-

The house number of Miss Taro's house changes from when she initially tells Bond what it is (in voice-over as he's driving there) and when Bond orders a taxi (really a police car) from her house.

When Bond is waiting for Prof Dent inside Miss Taro's house, he attaches a silencer to his gun - he is wearing a tie in the scene, but in the close-up the tie is gone.

After Dent shoots the mock-up of Bond in Miss Taro's bed and is caught, Bond says - "That's a Smith & Wesson, and you've had your six!" - I believe the gun is actually a Browning, and has a 7 shot capacity. I think I also remember reading somewhere that the gun that Bond is using isn't actually a Walther PPK - if that's the case, then where did he get this other gun (I think the gun substitution happened because it was easier to attach a silencer to that gun, than to the Walther).

During the evacuation of Dr. No's headquarters - there is a scene in a corridor where people are running about like loons, trying to get out. There is one particular Chinese guard who runs in the same direction, through the scene about 4 or 5 times (the director is clearly repeatedly sending him round the back of the set to go through again!).

Miss Taro deliberately gives Bond the wrong house number because he's never meant to arrive. The "3 Blind Mice" were meant to kill him on the way. Hence her surprised reaction when she opens the door.

If that's the case, then how did Bond find her house? I seem to recall the number she gives him is three-digit number beginning with 2 and the number Bond gives to the police is a 4-digit number beginning with 2 - I'm sure Bond didn't knock on almost 2000 doors until he found hers.

Respect to your signature by the way!

Quoting Jarrah White:In DAF, when Bond drives the Mustang on two wheels, you can see bad editing. In the footage of the car in the alley, it drives on one side of wheels, but in the foorage of it driving out of the alley its on the other set of wheels!

But they supposedly satisfied this by editing in the cut of Bond and Tiffany rotating. They simply bounced down and changed to the other side of the car. Simple, especially in a narrow alley...

In TND, when Bond and Wai Lin are falling while attached to the huge Carver banner in Vietnam, pay attention to Bond's shirt. In different close-ups, different buttons are buttoned or undone. It changes a few times...

Earlier up the page, someone mentioned Abu Simbel in Egypt in TSWLM. I think it is interesting to note that the temple was 'moved' to abu simbel when the aswan dam was built - so i guess the idea of it moving closer to cairo is strange but not so impossible!!!
i think we forget that most building used in Bond are for effect. For eg Drax's house was not in California - but France etc. This is another eg of just using a scenic place as a front for a Bond hq, not so much a fault with the film.
On that front, 'The Mummy' is a joke. I never saw pyramids from the banks of the Nile!

jimac, the temple was moved just several yards from its original location; so a quick walk from Cairo is still too much of a stretch. . .even for Bond.

    Quoting Alex:
Actually Tiger, I thought Pepper said "Elephants? We're Democrats Mabel."

That's correct Alex. I bet J.W. Pepper was probably a loyal supporter of George Wallace.

Anyway, I noticed a continuity in series mistake: In GOLDENEYE, 006 plots to fire the Soviet/Cold War era weapon on London to cause an EMP(ElectroMagneticPulse) that will destroy anything with an electronic circuit. But in A VIEW TO A KILL(1 year before GOLDENEYE's pre-title teaser sequence and 10 years before the rest of the 1995 film) didn't Q state that a private British defence contractor had created a microchip totally impervious to magnetic pulse damage in case such a scheme like 006's developed? 006 was an MI6 member in good standing at the time. Wouldn't he have known about this?
  • TigerTiger Posts: 20MI6 Agent
The microchip technology proved to be a problem so they stopped its production, and by 1986 they were not making microchips like that. 006 does not create his scheme until several months after the Zorin case forced the microchip to be replaced with something more efficient and safe.

Just remembered another one from Dr. No that always cracks me up:-

When Bond, Quarrel and Honey are on the beach at Crab Key, hiding from the motor boat with the machine gun - the guy on the boat talks to them through a megaphone. The last thing he says before they leave is "Alright, we'll be back...we'll be back with the dogs". He then lowers the megaphone and orders "Full speed ahead" but the voice still has the amplification effect of the megaphone on it.

Here are some I have noticed.

In Goldfinger when Bond gets out of the water he uses a grappling gun to climb the wall. If you notice, when he shoots it the rope dosnt come from the gun and it comes up from the wall.
Also in Goldfinger when Bond is in the plane, Goldfinger opens the curtain and you can see another man there.

In Dr. No when Bond is going through the ventelation system, or is it a ventilation system? If it is I never knew there were some where water gushes through the pipes.
In FRWL when there is the helicopter, all the grenades are about 5 seconds. The one where Bond shoots the guy, its 10 seconds. And also when the copter explodes, the railing thing falls off. When the camera has another look at the copter, it has the railing again.

This one is more of a stupid editing blooper. In OHMSS Draco says there is 0 seconds left for Piz Gloria to blow. However Bond and Blofeld get about another 15 seconds ro escape.
Also when Tracey is shot, the bullet hole in the glass is right infront of her head. Irma shot when the car was driving side by side so the bullet would of either gone through the side window. Irma must have curving bullets!

These are the ones I only picked out.
