Why don't EON/MGM/UA make Casino Royale as an 'official' James Bond film instead of that 1967 comedy?

even if they did and it resemble the novel. I personally don't think ' Casino Royale' is an apt title for the new millenium, it deos sound very 50's/60's. We need something more vicious like Tomorrow Never dies, Die Another Day etc

EON finally got round to buying the rights for the Casino Royale book a few years ago. I heard that Brosnan was eager to star in a Bond film based on a Fleming book and I assumed it would get underway, but instead we got DAD. I hope they do get round to doing it. As much as I enjoyed DAD its time to return to the grittier Bond of the books and give Brosnan some real acting to do.

Doing Casino Royale would be fantastic.It would really get bond back to his roots.

i think it would be great if bond 21 was CR, it may be brosnans last and it would be great to see him in a fleming based film

I can imagine an audience of cringing males watching the flaying now...
He better get his women early in the piece (so to speak!)

Interesting to look at these posts now that this has happened. I'd be curious to think if these posters thought this was in fact a "proper" treatment of Casino Royale...
