Gold Plated Aston Martin DB5

I was around town today and I walked into a Die:Cast model shop. It was full with little Crogi's and what-have-you, with a good selection of James Bond cars. All about £7, I bought one to start off my collection.

As I was paying I looked around the shop and under the counter, to find a gold plated Aston Martin DB5 model. £400, and I wasn't surprised. But is it worth that much? I know I cannot afford it, but I was wondering if it may be rare or anything?

Have a look on eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk). I bought one for £50 from there, and sold it for £120...

Is this Aston Martin the same one produced by the Danbury Mint?
I have the original silver/grey model, which cost me £100 - bought it years ago. anyway I know they produced a special gold plated version for about £200 and something, but it was out of my price range at the time.

they are fantastic models though, the detail is amazing, even right down to the tiniest detail, like the aerial that you can pull up, or the telephone that is in a compartment in the driver's door - it is attached by a fine wire!, plus of course all the gadgets etc. I've also got the desplay case for it that is a wooden base with a plaque on it, and a perspex cover. It sits proudly on top of my monitor, and I'm looking at it as I type! ;)

I've got the silbver Danbury Mint Aston Martin DB5 but also a Corgi 35th anniversary edition of Goldfinger from 1998 which is gold plated. What is that worth?

Scaramanga1 says there is a phone in his Danbury mint DB5?
I'll be, I have one and never looked in the door for a phone. I even have the nice wooden display with the brass plaque.
As for the Corgi DB5's they made plenty. I believe their first one made in Britain back in the 60's was gold plated and is worth a pretty penny. That's the only one I could see paying 400 pounds for (that's about 600 dollars US money). The later models made by Corgi were made in such large numbers that they won't be worth much for many years. With one exception, possibly the 35th anniversary of which was spoken.
I'm not sure of the value but it is worth more than the average Corgi DB5 (which are now made in China-as most things are nowadays).

The last time I saw a Corgi 35th Anniversary model for sale they wanted £150 for it. Never found out what they actually sold it for though - and remember it must be mint-in-box to fetch anywhere near that figure.
Thunderballdb5 is quite wrong when he says that the latter Corgi DB5 models are not worth much - a couple of models only had a few 1000 produced and are worth quite a bit of money now.

Don't usually watch it but caught a few minutes of The Antiques Roadshow the other day - it was like a kids special type of thing I guess. This kid had an original db5 from the 60's in its original box with all the parts etc etc. It was gold. The box was slightly damaged but he estimated it around £100-£150. What he did mention was for some reason the cars made at this time where Gold. The much more valuable ones at this time were in fact the silver ones as only a small handful was produced.

I'm no expert (read that "no" expert) but I believe the very first ASDB5 by corgi was gold, but painted not plated. The early numbers that Corgi used were something like 260, 261 and then a bit later they used 270, 271. I myself have a 271 mint in the box.
The details are what I lack, like the color of the tire slashers, rubber verses plastic tires/wheels. They made many variants, especially the Batmobile but that is another subject and I have been in hot water for talking about the wrong subject in the wrong "thread" already.
You guys take this very seriously :)

Must be now, at least, in the region of £ 200,00 / 225,00 if MIB.
Refreshing to hear there's one subject you're not an expert on...
