    MBE, you're missing the point on Entrapment. . .none of us went there for the story, it was for that scene of CZJ doing snaky gymnastic moves to get around those motion detectors! And as for CZJ liking older men. . .hell, I'm about two or three years older than her, and I still have bladder control. Why, God, why?

    Oh, and I find Rene Russo muy caliente just as she is. Sexy knows no age.

    While Sean always plays Sean,Pierce always plays Pierce.As an Englishman,he's an Irishman.As an American he's an Irishman.And as an Irishman,he's well...an Irishman.Even as the half Scot/half Swiss Commander James Bond,he's an Irishman.

    I'm not complaining or being critical just making an observation.Like Cary Grant,neither Connery or Brosnan attempts to disguise their speaking voices and/or points of origin.

    * * * * * *

    Interestingly the script for Entrapment was offered originally to the TCA producers, as the TCA update, they wisely turned it down. Script aside, PB and RR just make a far more sexy and interesting screen couple. (and they're the same age, a rarity! LOL)

    I agree--it was very refreshing to see the two leads played by actors of the same generation.All too often,the male is cast opposite a woman young enough to be his daughter...As in Die Another Day,with Brosnan and Pike,for instance.Sometimes that can just look creepy.

    * * * * *
    CZJ was much better in Zorro. She's even better in these phone commericals she does in the U.S. (that is her isn't it? Too good for a Bond girl, OK to hawk phones... OK ;))
    * * * *
    Well yes of course it's her,MBE.And yes-CZJ was excellent in The Mask of Zorro.She was good in Traffic,too.And for whatever it's worth,I liked her in Entrapment.A great performance,no.A very professional performance,yes.A great movie,no.An entertaining one,yes--IMO.In fact as actresses,I think CZJ and Rene Russo are each very talented performers.

    And regarding those phone ads--Maybe the thinking was that if Lord Olivier could pitch cameras--CZJ--(who replaced Jamie Lee Curtis as the phone pitchwoman) would somehow bring more attention to the product.

    Frankly,I find the all the phone ads annoying--especially the posing everyone does-along with the suggestion that everyone has to have a cell phone with them at all times.However,it is nice to see the legendary Barbara Steele cameo in one of them.

    That's Madison Avenue for ya.If the advertisers thought Weird Al Yankevich could sell phones,that's probably who we'd be seeing instead.:007)

    Ah but like Cary Grant, Pierce's now "main" accent is an acquired one, not an original one (although it sounds far more real than Cary Grant's very unique one :) ). You want "original" listen to him in the Evelyn trailer. Now that's "Irish"! ;) (in fact one reviewer criticized "British" actor Pierce Brosnan's evidently phoney Irish accent. :)) )

    Yes many find it creepy but vast age discrepencies really don't bother me that way. My biggest problem is that I usually find it difficult to understand why the older character bothers with the younger one, b/c they're usually quite unformed and boring in comparison. So if it's just an issue of sex and physical attraction, on either part, I can understand it. But buying it as an intellectually/emotionally/romantically deeper relationship, that's a hard sell and nothing in the scrpt or the acting in Entrapment helped sell it, especially with a 40 year age gap.

    Sorry, I can't say that CZJ's performance in Entrapment was anything but wooden. As for her other roles, she's been good in a couple, very enjoyable in Zorro. But as an actress all around she usually leaves me rather cold.

    But I'll agree about the phone commericals, they are ANNOYING and people who walk down the street talking loud into phones are even more annoying. The only people who should be allowed to talk that loud to seemingly no one on the streets should be schizophrenics. ;)

    Well yes of course,as with Cary Grant's carefully muted cockney accent,Pierce Brosnan's main accent is several conscious degrees removed from his original one--yet even now a trace of the Olde Sod remains.As Remington Steele,for example,there was a bit more brogue in evidence and PB sounded more obviously Irish than he currently does as James Bond.And of course in Sean Connery's case--in his first 4 Bond films he intentionally supressed his strong burr--something he hasn't done for a very long time.

    My point was that none of these gentlemen has ever attempted to completely hide his background--there's always been something in their voices to identify their origins.

    Embarrased? Tin Cup was a great movie. It's gotta be Costner's best film since Dances With Wolves, as he has had quite a few flops in the last few years.
    Rene Russo may look like to a soccer mom to some, but if that was the case I'd put my kids on the same team as her kids any day. She's older, sexy, and is a great actress. I'll take her "13 year old chest" any day of the week!

    Mo - Classic comment on Renee's chest!!! LOL!! You're right, you ain't gonna live it down! :p Still, the pics were nice and it redeemed you a wee bit. And if she's what a "soccer mom" is, I better find myself some 13 year olds to take to "soccer" :D

    MBE - I'm with ya all the way here. I echo your critique and sentiments. I thought the CZJ/SC thing was creepy too. Her American accent was also cringeworthy and the only highlight of the film was her doing the gym stuff in a nicely fitting costume. With such two huge egos on screen too, well, I got sick of it pretty quickly.

    This is also very true. PB doesn't have an Irish accent. A very slight hint of Irish brogue, perhaps, but it's heavily Anglicised and would pass for an English accent far quicker than it would Irish. Shean's ackshent on the other hand, hash become a parody of itshelf. It's not even Scottish. A Scottish lilt perhaps, but from another wee place of it's own entirely. It's widely parodied here in Scotland and only the other day there was a comedy sketch of Sean Connery as Bob Marley ("I'm a rashtafarian") on a Scottish radio station.

    And while you may have CZJ pushing T Mobile in the US, just be thankful you haven't got forever grinning couple Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf...

    Have you guys seen that parody of Sean on Saturday Night Live when he's on Jeopardy? It is hysterical. He sounds like Moonie's imitation up there.

    And....ha! For once I get to explain an Americanism to you. A soccer mom is a term for a mini van driving, kid toting, tupperware collecting, average looking harried housewife kind of lady. Not hot in guy terms. :)

    CZJ's first big breakthrough came when she starred in the musical 42nd Street on London's West End,so it's not like Chicago will be a stretch for her.I think she's a very good actress with plenty of range.I can't really say the same for Rene Russo,although I like her,too.And yes--that's quite a jaw she's got.

    I like Jamie Lee as well (oh and that's Lady Jamie to some of you! LOL), a very smart fun down to earth lady, and yes a talented actress, especially comedically. The rumor is she was born an hermaphrodite, but that's not exactly as rare as people think and usually is taken care of ahem quite quickly with an operation when an infant.

    As for annoying though yeah Meg Ryan and Julia Roberts... those goofy aren't I just so adorable, don't you just love the wonderfulness that is me grins are enough to make you gag. Like the female equivilents of Tom Cruise and Hugh Grant. :p

    I can't say I really have any thoughts about JLC at all. She was excellent in A Fish Called Wonda and I did enjoy her performance in True Lies. Other than that, I don't see much of her. As for Julia Roberts and Meg Ryan...they seem to try too hard and they're never out of papers and magazines. They're pretty sickening.

    Down to earth??? You gotta get a very long ladder to bring her ego down to earth. I have never seen such affectations when she is interviewed. UGH. Men like her because of A Fish Called Wanda, and women like her because she isn't the bimbo type, but man, she can be just as cutesy as the rest of em when she's working the room.

    Really I've never found her affectatious, I've always seen her ready and willing to take pot shots at herself for a laugh, even undeserved ones. Considering her parents I find the fact that she comes off as fairly level headed as a revelation. As for cutesy, fun yes playful certainly but never saccharine or phoney, and anyone that marries Christopher Guest (it goes to 11) has to have one heck of a sense of humor, and she does.

    Besides any woman who says "every woman dreams of being pushed up against a wall by Pierce Brosnan" is all right with me. ;)
