Favorite actors!!!

I would like to know, who are your favorite actors. Maybe add some of their movies!
My favorites are: Sean Connery ( The Rock )
John Malkovich ( would be great for a Bond villain I think) Samuel L.Jackson ( could play a wonderful submission part in a Bond movie)

Given how much weight Marlon has put on over the years, I guess he does qualify as nine separate people! :))

Well, I won't deny that! Still, I think he's a truly great actor and I always have to praise his talents. But what it's a shame he's aged so badly . . . he was so hot and sexy when he was young!

I don't think you can separate the actor from the role. For example, just tonight I watched the new DVD transfer of John Ford's "The Searchers," (incredible -- it looks like it was filmed last week) in which John Wayne gives an great performance. For a guy who usually played the hero to little critical acclaim, he was great at darker characters like the Ethan Edwards role in "The Searchers" and the tyrannical trail boss in "Red River." Two of my favorite performances by actresses are Katherine Hepburn as the morphine-addicted mother in "A Long Day's Journey Into Night," and Vivien Leigh in "A Streetcar Named Desire." Her performance is equal to Brando's in that film, in my view. Robert DeNiro in "Godfather II," "Taxi Driver," "Raging Bull" and the other Scorcese pictures. Gene Hackman in "The French Connection" and "Unforgiven." One of my most recent favorites is Bruno Ganz as Hitler in "Downfall." Paul Newman in all of his "H" films from the Sixties: "The Hustler," "Hombre," "Hud," "Harper," and "Cool Hand Luke." What an amazing string of great roles. Jeff Bridges in just about everything but especially in "Fearless," a great role in a great film (with absolutely the most terrifying plane crash sequence ever put on film)

Stumbled on the thread while looking for something else so I thought I would add my opinion. I would break this down into 4 categories, all time favorite actor, all time actress, current actor and current actress.

All Time Actor - John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Steve McQueen, Jack Lemmon

All Time Actress - Katherine Hepburn, Maureen O'Hara, Grace Kelly, Marilyn Monroe

Current Actor - Tom Hanks, Nick Cage, Leanardo DiCaprio, Johnny Depp

Current Actress - Amy Adams (everytime I see her I think she jumps right off the screen), Jennifer Connelly, Tilda Swinton.

To my way of thinking, a "favorite" actor is one who makes you watch a movie you ordinarily wouldn't give a second thought to.

There really aren't that many actors that can do that for me; the ones that come closest would probably be Clint Eastwood, Sean Connery, Al Pacino and Harrison Ford. Lee Marvin is another versatile actor appeared in a lot of movies that are in my collection. I'd also have to give a shout to Tom Hanks, who is another really versatile actor (even if I don't really gravitate towards most of his movies).

As for actresses, that's a tougher call as I always tend to focus on how they look before thinking about their acting chops. Sigourney Weaver is somebody who I always thought could play just about anything. Being Italian, I'd have to give a nod to Sophia Loren. Any movie with Angie Dickinson is also bound to be interesting. And I must confess to an enduring fondness for Halle Berry; I was one of the 4 people on the planet who actually had a good time watching Catwoman and she could probably hold my attention while reading the ingredients off a box of cereal.

There's many, many more but those are the first that spring to mind.

:)) My compliments on your honesty, I confess Tony so do I, although I do have Katherine Hepburn and Tilda Swinton in my list and it wasn't for their looks. I do think Halle Berry is super hot, but I haven't cared for most of her movies. Although I have enjoyed many of Jennifer Connelly's fine performances, I have always thought she would be fantastic in a remake of Showgirls. :v

I do the same thing. :)) You know it's interesting that, Tony, you talk about 'acting chops' as when it comes to my favourite actors (male and female), I don't simply evaluate them on how well they can act. Some of my favourite actors are, to be brutally honest, absolutely terrible actors. :))

BTW, Barry, Katherine Hepburn is my all-time favourite actress. {[]

She is certainly not the greatest when it comes to selecting good films. That said, I absolutely adore her. She's one of my favourite actresses as not only is she a terrific actress, but I would argue that Halle Berry with long hair is one of the world's three most beautiful women. :D

Somehow, I knew Jennifer Connelly would factor into your choices somewhere. :))

Although, truth be told, I think she's a little too sweet (at least in what I've seen her in) to be dancing topless in Vegas ( I may be shallow, but I still have a conscience ;% ).

Well, the list was "favorite" actors, not "best" actors. ;)

As for me, I actually tend to prefer Halle with a shorter hairdo, like in DAD or Swordfish.
