The nearby Russian naval base at Sevastopol includes an elite naval infantry regimet and most likely an spetsnaz detchement. The regional paliament of Crimea is also occupied by "unknown" Russian speakers. They are uniformed, disiplined and well armed, including rocket propelled grenades and sniper rifles. the new Ukranian government are showing restraint and are trying to find a peacefull solution, but I have to ask: what is Putin thinking of? An armed conflict in a country with more than 44 million people, more than 159 000 soldiers and gas pipes vital to all of Europe would be disasterous!
