I will see if I can keep up the good work by posting more thoughtful posts, and less of those short ones.
You have set yourself a target that you cannot possibly reach, General. Your head and your typing finger must really be hurting after posting that comprehensive review of Tomorrow Never Dies. )
Quoting Jedi Master:
Wow wow guys, I am perfectly aware that the troops in iraq are from Great Briton, call it a typo or whatever but I was just typing out my thoughts, its how my posts work!
Well, speaking of typoes, I would just like to throw this into the fray. . . .
Perhaps it is more respectful to your own country and to others to capitalize the first letter of the country's name! Wouldn't you agree that "America" looks a lot better than "america?" I hope I'm not sounding harsh, but I think it is even more disrespectful to spell your country's (or kingdom's, or even-part-of-a-kingdom's ) name wrong. "Great Britain" looks a lot better than "great briton," doesn't it?
Once again, I hope I don't sound like I'm trying to be mean, but this has bugged me forever.
No hard feelings, I'm just trying to avoid further misunderstandings. Remember, this is supposed to be a happy place! That was why we got rid of the Forum Wars!
Quoting Jedi Master:
OH yeah I forgot to say, about the "united" kingdom of great briton and northern ireland.
How United are we if we have to say northern ireland seperately? How united are we if ireland itself, part of our community, part of our lifes, part of our "neighbourhood" is not part of our kingdom? How united are we if, well I can't think of anything else!!!
Because Britain and Ireland ARE two separate things - islands. The island of Great Britain consists of Scotland, England and Wales. The island of Ireland is made up of Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland (a separate sovereign nation). The Romans called this island Britannia well before the nations within it united. In 1603 the Scottish and English Crowns merged forming the Kingdom Of Great Britain (one King for both nations). In 1707 the parliaments merged and the union was formed (one parliament for both nations, as Wales was already annexed by England), thus the name was altered to be the United Kingdom of Great Britain. In 1802 Ireland joined the union and again the name was altered to reflect the new make up, being the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland - at the same time the St Patrick's Cross was added to the Union Flag. In 1921 26 counties of Ireland ceded from the Union forming the Free Irish State (later the Republic of Ireland) leaving the 6 counties of Northern Ireland (6 out of 9 counties of the Province of Ulster) with the UK, so another name change was necessary and we became the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The AND signifies that we're united. Northern Ireland is separate because it is physically not in Great Britain. However, all the islands around us, including the Isle Of Man, are the British Isles, the use of 'British' here being a geographical reference rather than a political one.
Apologies for assuming you were American, as it's not normally a mistake the English make, thankfully. However, please do get it right as it does mightily **** off everyone in this country who's not English and does wonders for the concepts of Scottish and Welsh nationalism.
Moving on, perhaps this would be an appropriate place to commend the General who uncharacteristically managed to string together a few coherent sentences and wrote an interesting article on last year's memorobilia show.
Seriously though, cheers for the article and photos. {[]
But two backhanded compliments on the same page, what's happening?
Sorry about getting the nationality of the people in Iraq wrong, it was a bad mistake to make and I take full responsibility for it!!
Sorry for spelling Britain wrong, how bl***y thick am I?!
And sorry for not writing the names of countries with capital first letters, it was really just a way of saving time but I agree it is disrespectful. Therefore I shall be writing all my posts in as fuller English as possible now. Including all capital letters, punctuation and full words. Eg I wont say things like "Hows u?" Etc
And M5 thank you for the history lesson (not p*** taking) it did explain what I was confused about!
So once again I am forced to apologise, it seems like that is all I do doesn't it?! Aaah well did I not make the mistakes I would not have to suffer the conciquences!
Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice and everyone dies.

I have just read the article and I must say that there may be hope for the General after all. I have never been fortunate enough to meet any of the actors or actresses that have appeared in the Bond films. I would really like to meet and talk to the likes of David Hedison and Shane Rimmer, and not just talk about their appearances in the Bond films. David Hedison starred in the 1950's film version of The Fly and also starred in the 1960's tv series Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea. Shane Rimmer was the voice of Scott Tracy the pilot of Thunderbird 1 in the 1960's tv puppet series Thunderbirds.
Both David Hedison and Shane Rimmer were talking about their roles in those films/series. A relative of mine had many questions for David Hedison, and a £20 note for an autograph!
I decided not to buy one from him, but I spoke to and got an autograph from Mr Rimmer, who spent most of the time talking about my hairstyle! )
Thanks, Jedi for trying to spell better! I'm sure many a member will appreciate that!
Well, this is an issue with my avatar, and I want to know what everyone else thinks: Did you all like my old avatar better than my new one? Most people that I have talked to liked the blue one better. Another option would be to make the one that I currently have a blue one. So, what do you think? Keep the same, change to the old, or change the current one to blue?
Try this, change to the old one, but change it red! I did prefer the old one, but red is so much more mystical. Blue reminds me too much of water and peaceful things to be mystical, try it!
Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice and everyone dies.
Quoting Jedi Master:
Really? I thought it was spelt with an "s"! Oh I'm so fustrated! I am going to have to start reading the dictionary like my really sad friend!
You are actually correct on this one. In British English (the real kind) it is spelt with an 's'. As far as Sly's avatar is concerned, I did prefer the old one, though the new one is still very good. I take it is from a computer game? My avatar is Brian from Family Guy, one of my favourite shows ever.
I too, like MNL, would like to have had General Ouromov's experience in meeting some Bond stars, though of all the actors I would especially like to meet probably only George Lazenby turns up to Bond events. Diana Rigg, Sophie Marceau and Barbara Bach I don't think would go to any, which is ashame as I have loads to ask them.
I'm surprised that an eloquent Scottish gentleman such as yourself would watch Family Guy. But then again, realize that it is a free country. Is that Great Britain or the United States? I don't want to be bothered with that now.
Quoting Jedi Master:
Try this, change to the old one, but change it to red!
Well, Jedi, I just tried that, and. . .Well, red doesn't go really well against a blue background. Not to mention that the one I have now was easy to change the colors because the picture it came from was very large (wallpaper sized). The old one is so much harder to change the colors because the picture it came from. . . .Well, it was wallpaper sized, too, but the part where I cropped it from was about the same size as it is now, so there was very little cropping needed. I changed the new one I have to a blue vortex background, but the colors just seemed to clash. I think I will just put the old one back up.
Thanks, guys for letting me know!
By the way, my post marks the 50th page to this topic!!! {[]
Yay congrats topic!
Now as for teh topical things, well I cant be bothered! What i will say is:
I have just watched Pirates of the Caribbean, and all in all it was a good film. I was very pleased with Jonathon Pryce's performance, the plot, while fairly abscure, was good. I did however think the following: the characters played by the likes of Orlando Bloom and Jonny Depp, while good characters, I couldn't help but notice they were played by people who just reminded me of Leonardo Decaprio (Shudder) not so much actors as models! Basically I'm saying that they substituted great performance for good looks, in the aims of atracting young girls. Also the kiss at the end between the 2 of them, well it was just too romantic, its an action comedy, not a romance!! I was really annoyed by the ending, I think Will Turner should have died, and died a hero, that just doesnt seem to happen anymore! Finally, my final critisism! I found that the numerous sword fights (While fantasticly brilliant) were just that bit too choryographed, (spelling?!) the fights lost the air of spontineity that spontenious fights need! They all just looked choryographed. But all in all it was a great film, at least they ad long exciting fights in them, at least the kiss wasn't the ending, at least all of the actors could actually act! And at least Jonathon Pryce gave a great performance!
Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice and everyone dies.

I mentioned David Hedison and Shane Rimmer in my previous post as two of the actors that have appeared in the Bond films that I would particularly like to meet. The two Bond actors that I would like to meet the most are Roger Moore and Sean Connery. Roger is the nearest thing to a hero that I have ever had outside my family and close relatives. I grew up watching him in The Saint, The Persuaders and then James Bond. Both The Saint and The Persuaders tv series had a big influence on me when I was a boy. I watch them now with great fondness and feelings of nostalgia. I have always admired Sean Connery, especially as James Bond. He is one of those actors that has a screen presence and brings a part of his own persona to each role that he does. He has "Star Appeal" and not forgetting he's a damn fine actor with it.
In all honesty, if I were ever fortunate enough to meet Roger, Sean, David, Shane or just about any actor or actress connected with the Bond films I would most likely freeze and be lost for words. I would probably end up mumbling something about the weather.

Well yes, I was very stuck for words. I had prepared questions for them but on approach I just couldn't say anything.
I too would be more than truly thrilled to meet Roger Moore, Sean Connery or George Lazenby. I have also always wanted to meet Julian Glover, who I admire for a lot of his work, and Patrick Bauchau (Scarpine in AVTAK), who has had a long and successful career in films.
It was my first opportunity to meet any Bond/Star Wars stars, so I was very nervous, and sorta panicked when I saw Kenneth Colley (Admiral Piett, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi) and Peter Diamond (stunt co ordinator, worked on over 1000 movies, including FRWL). But the queues were non existant, so having a friendly chat with them was great, and hearing all of their stories...

ilovepierce, you're back!! I'm taking exams in June, so I am free to spend a lot of my free time here. I think I will join the Pierce appreciation society.
