The shot down Russian plane in Syria worries me. There will be a lot of discussion on what airspace the plane was in. I tend to believe the Turks. The Russians have flown very agressively in the border areas of many countris lately, while Turkey has no interest in shooting down airplanes in syrian airspace. We only know this will lead to more hostile realations between Russia and NATO.
  • The Domino EffectThe Domino Effect Posts: 3,638MI6 Agent
I also believe it was in Turkish air space for the reasons you state NUmber24, and also because in that area the Turkish border bulges into Syrian and it would be easy for the Russians to accidentally stray in Turkey. Of course the other factor here that no one's really mentioning is that there's not much ISIL there at all, but there are rebels opposed to Assad. So, for all of Russia's claims of fighting ISIL and gaining revenge for the blowing up of the plane in Egypt, they're still more interesting in going after the pro-democracy rebels. Putin's own comments today about 'those allied with the terrorists' meaning Turkey clearly proves that he's still far more interested in propping up Assad than he is in defeating ISIL.

Putin didn't expect Turkey to stand up to him. The Russian planes
Were no were near ISIS strong holds, they were there to attack Putin's
Mates rebels ( Not Terrorists) as it's a civil war, and apparently the Russian
Pilots were warned up to Ten times to leave Turkish air space or they would
    be fired on.

I'm currently reading an in-depth biography of Putin that seems quite reliable and reasonably impartial and he comes across as just as nasty bit of goods. No surprise there, of course, but I find it very disappointing that so few Russians seem to realise this. Or perhaps they do and they just like to be a world player again after being bankrupt and ineffectual for a couple of decades.
  • ThunderpussyThunderpussy Behind you !Posts: 63,792MI6 Agent
I agree, most Russian's I think are proud that Russia is once again
A big player on the world stage. Infact I think there's something in
The Russian attitude, that they like strong leaders , The " Iron Man"
    Of Russia type.

At first, it's a result of eliminating free press and the uprise of the legendary propaganda machine.
Not sure how it is in your country, but here the political fora are flooded with paid russian trolls that spread out mother Russia's point of view.

I am not sure if it's more amusing or alarming for me.

I've had many Russian friends and co-workers and got on really well with them all. They're very family-oriented, have a great sense of humour, a fantastic love of music, art and culture in general and are just very likeable, but they do have a few quirks (as does every nationality, I suppose). One book I recently read on Russia mentioned that there's a Russian mentality of being upset when someone starts to succeed (tall poppy syndrome, the Aussies would say) even if they are also succeeding themselves. There's a joke/saying in Russia about a fairy visiting a poor man in a rural town and granting him one wish. The man umms and arrs. "Should I ask for a million dollars?" he muses. "Perhaps a mansion. Hmmmm." While the man thinks, the fairy says to him, "The only catch is that whatever I give you, your neighbour gets double." Without a moment's further thought, the man says to the fairy "Then gouge out one of my eyes."

Not so much here, that I've noticed. We certainly do get it from China, however.

Sweden has perhaps the most liberal immigration policis in Europe and has let in masses of refugees. But now Sweden has been forced to tighten their immigration laws and urgs refugees to seek other countries. The deputy prim minister was on the verge of tears while anouncing this. Some politicians are different from others (see video=

It comes from my Grandfather's views on volunteering during the war,
always stay behind the bloke volunteering. :D or indeed take one step
back. I'm from a long line of cowards, :))

Probably the ability to use English is stronger in Europe, than in some other
countries, so making it a lot more difficult for some.

Like the old joke , The instructor told the new recruit, when faced with a Bear
Back slowly away, reach behind you, pick up some sh*t and throw it at him !
Young recruit asks " What if there's no Sh*t behind me ?"
The Instructor answers " If you meet a Bear son, don't worry there will be !" :D

Truee nough. But I'm also active in a history forum online (Traitor! hang him! X-( ), and the members there are from East Asia, Eastern Europe, South America etc. Perhaps it's because of the high level of education among the members? For the first time in my life I feel like a history dunce :))
