Quoting General_Ourumov:
...and THAT, my dear Fox, is an opinion that could get you killed!
And just what is that supposed to mean? EXCUSE ME for having my own personal opinions!!
Actually, my opinions change every now and then, and I'm sure you all can relate to this in some way or another. It doesn't have to be Star Wars, it can be Bond, music, my burning desire to throw the computer out the window at times, and many other things. But my opinion of Jar Jar has always remained the same.
By the way, General, just which quote were you referring to when you said "THAT opinion can get you killed." Was it directed at both of them, or at one or the other? It didn't happen to be the one in my new (well, the one before I have now) signature, did it???
Quoting tirpitz:
I'm confused, run that by me again please?
Basically, we're talking about how old the characters were in Star Wars--all the episodes. There seems to be some confusion between members. . . .
Oh, and the General is saying something nasty about my opinion of Jar Jar Blinks. Personally, I don't see anything wrong with Jar Jar, and I certainly don't see what all the fuss is over him.

I was referring to the Jar Jar bit, of course. Qui Gon Jinn I have no issues with!
Oh, and the General is saying something nasty about my opinion of Jar Jar Binks. Personally, I don't see anything wrong with Jar Jar, and I certainly don't see what all the fuss is over him.
You don't? Well, no offence intended but you're not the traditional Star Wars fan! He is stupid, loud, cowardly, annoying, feeble, stupid, idiotic, stupid, ridiculous, unbelievable, academically challenged, stupid.
George Lucas HIMSELF needs to be SHOT for this one... he wrecked the first film with it.
Lets all calm down, I can understand Jarjar appealing to people, he is quite funny to watch. But on the other hand he brought the tone of the whole series down a long way.
George Lucas himself has said he seriously regrets creatine this character.
Right, you may have noticed I've been gone for quite a while! There was a problem with the site for me! Good to see you all noticed I was gone!
Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice and everyone dies.
Quoting Jedi Master:
Right, you may have noticed I've been gone for quite a while! There was a problem with the site for me! Good to see you all noticed I was gone!
I was beginning to wonder where you had gone, JM!
Anyway, you are right, General--I certainly am not the traditional Star Wars fan, I might be perhaps an unusual one, at that. When I think about it, I suppose Jar Jar did kind of add humor to the first film where it was probably not the time or place. Jedi Master has said it best, I think. After seeing the movie about 100 times ( ), his humor does get old. I never thought about it before, but this is probably why The Phantom Menace is my least favorite Star Wars film.
Still, I couldn't really see what all the fuss was over, as he did add humor to some parts that in my opinion, could have used it. Take the part where everyone is in Anakin's dining room where they are all discussing how to get the hyperdrive generator for their ship. Jar Jar in my opinion, added a nice touch by trying to grab an apple (or whatever) with his very long tongue. Qui-Gon grabs it and says "Don't do that again." Jar Jar's response to that sort of toned down the seriousness of that scene, which was a good thing.
Another thing unusual about me is that I do prefer the Special Editions to the standard editions. Most people prefer the standard ones, but I like the Special Editions because I always thought it was fun to see the entire movie that was filmed. Attack of the Clones probably won't be released as a Special Edition, though. I am thinking that is why they added the deleted scenes onto the end of the tape, so that they wouldn't have to do it later. The deleted scenes really wouldn't have added much to the movie, anyway. The same is probably true with The Phantom Menace. The deleted scenes weren't released with them, but they probably didn't add much to the movie anyway.
The reason I prefer the original movie Special Editions is because of the improved graphics, mostly. I could have done without the extra scene with Han Solo and Jabba next to the Millenium Falcon, as that didn't add much to the film. It would probably be nice to make DVDs where you could choose between standard and Special Editions, and where you could choose the extra scenes you wanted, if any, and where you could choose whether or not you wanted the added graphics. This would probably take a very advanced DVD, if not a computer as a player, is this possible? I'm not the DVD expert, as I don't even have a DVD player. . . . I've never used a DVD before but once or twice, so someone might have to correct me here!
About the DVD point, you can do all sorts of things with a DVD. On a certain version of the "Die Hard" DVD, you can actually choose the camera angles that you want to view certain scenes from, altering the way you watch the movie which I think is great. It would indeed be possible to include both versions on the DVD, because that idiot George Lucas is trying to forget the original Star Wars films in favour of the trashy special editions.
In the Special Editions you don't even see everything. Lucas infact deleted some of the scenes from the original films and put new ones in their place. He even changed some of the music, especially the music on Jabba's Sail Barge and in other cantina scenes. I think this is a shocking thing to do, to cut up and destroy three films that were perfect as they were. Lucas needs a kick up the ass if you ask me, because he keeps ruining what good work he actually has done. Now we have Indiana Jones 4 coming out. Even though George did basically nothing to contriubute to the original three anyway, I still think this is a massive mistake.
Advice to George Lucas on the Star Wars films; If it's not broken, don't fix it. We didn't need those crappy Special Editions... and even worse is that you don't plan to release the old originals on DVD. There is even a site with a petition on it including well over 50,000 names of people who want to see the originals on DVD. No self respecting Star Wars fan should buy the Special Edition rubbish - I know I wont..!
I honestly didn't know that . . . I always thought that all they did was add the deleted scenes. I didn't know that they replaced some of the scenes! But I kind of always did think that there was some scenes missing from The Empire Strikes Back, but I never thought about it--probably because I haven't seen the originals
since . . . Years, at least, and I believe I've only seen them once or twice.
I didn't know all this, but what can I say? The time I got into Star Wars, the originals weren't for sale anymore, so all I could do was rent them. Soon after that, the Special Editions came out on video, and at the time I was too young to appreciate the originals anyway. I wouldn't have known any of this information because I had no knowledge of the internet, and my parents couldn't stand Star Wars. . . . Luckily, I was able to turn them into . . . Well, I couldn't exactly make fans out of them, but they can at least tolerate it now. . . . 8-)
Anyway, you're right--the originals should be released on DVD. I'll have to buy the originals that were on VHS on Ebay sometime! Maybe I can even find them in widescreen. . . .
A long time ago, far far away, there was once an original Star Wars: A New Hope disk that was not special edition, but unfortunately not dvd either. It was one of those cd's 4 times the size of your face that was played on these rare machines that I cannot comprehend.
I can't imagine why the originals aren't put on DVD the way they were in the theaters. As GO, said, the old farmer's advice, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", still applies.
Fox, by the way, how insane do you drive your parents by constantly asking for Star Wars DVD's?
The same to Jedi Master. And finally, General, do you have parents who like Star Wars?

Well, as I said before, I am practically DVD illiterate. VHS is still pretty good to me, since you can find used ones now that are dirt cheap. Why, just the other day I found two Bond movies that were missing from my collection for just $1.50 apiece!
But, I really don't drive them insane with Star Wars memorabilia . . . They just sometimes go insane when they hear the legendary Star Wars theme on the home-theatre system.
No I don't ask for the films, I'm happy watching them on the rare occaisions that they are shown on ITV, or when I go to a friend's house and they have them!!
Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice and everyone dies.
My parents were about the right age, my father being 23 and mother 21 when the first Star Wars film was released. But neither of them are fans.
I have an extremely large family, and my interest in Star Wars was picked up from two of my older cousins who were mad on the films at the time. I have two links to the Star Wars films also. First of all, my grandfather went weight training near my home with David Prowse (Darth Vader), and secondly a friend of the family is related to the wife of Michael Baker, who is Kenny Baker's (R2-D2) brother!
Knowing that, I grew up liking them a lot, and I still do.

Lucas has said several times, the reason he made the special editions is because that was his original vision and when he made the movies technology wasn't avalible like it is today. And on a sidenote, don't expect to see the original movies to ever be released again. They're supposedly being locked up in a vault and never to be shown again.
Some people would complain even if you hang them with a new rope
I had no idea that the special editions were like that, I didn't know much about them at all! Oh well, we must do what we can to stop this, where's that website petition when you need it!?

Maybe that's what they meant when they said on the original tapes that they would be realeasing it "One last time. . . ."
I'm sure in maybe twenty years from now, popular demand will bring the originals back. Popular demand can have great power. . . . Where's that petition!?
By the way: as a sidenote, if anyone really wants the original movies, but their tape is wearing out, you could probably take the tape itself down somewhere and have it remastered, or something like that. But for what it would probably cost, you might as well buy a new TV.
Hey, what does everyone think of my flashy new avatar!? Much better than the old one because it doesnt have an annoying white bit around the side!

Pretty good, but I like the old one better, as it's not distorted so much because of the resizing. Anyway, I kind of liked the white border, as it made for a nice touch.
But, the new one is still nice and it's your choice. After all, it's not my avatar, it's yours!
Well I did an image search on Google for "yoda" and found that one, then I saved it and used ti as my Avatar! That what you mean?!
Ok now people are saying the old one was better, please post your opinions so that I can take a rough vote!
Finally, I had a wicked idea.
I was in London yesterday going to see a play and as I looked around I realised that London would be a fantastic place for an action sequence in a Bond film! They could run around the streets and allyways and roof tops, or even better, hop on some trials bikes or something! Then it could all end with a chase along waterloo station roof and a jump down onto Eurostar or something!!
Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice and everyone dies.
there was supposed to be a london rooftop chase in ohmss as bond chases a blofeld spy who is eavesdropping on his conversation with sir hilary...some stills of this being shot are in the ohmss 007 magazine special amongst other places

Indeed, and the chase scene was actually filmed, but the sequence was edited out of the final cut. Lazenby even injured his arm while filming it.
- Oh Tirpitz, as JM said... there is indeed a chase through London in the pre-credits sequence of TWINE. I think that chase was enough for London personally.
This is going to be interesting. I wonder what the good general's sentiments are going to be about this. Also, 104 posts is going to be quick, with AJB eagerly anticipating how the eloquent Jedi Master speaks his mind.
