I don't think anyone's claiming to do a better job, but we do expect our Prime Minister to reflect and act on the wishes of his people, and the vast majority of his people opposed the war in Iraq with many more now opposing it now that we've found out the false premise of the war. The Prime Minister misled the country and ignored the majority viewpoint, and I for one sincerely hope it results in his departure from Downing Street at the next available opportunity. Blair is an unpopular figure in the UK and the level of trust that the British people have in him has dipped below 30%.
I don't want his job, but he's no longer listening to the British people and it's time for him to go.
But the fact is, even if you can plainly see that a nation's leader lied to the country about going to war, it's hard to say if there were any better choices. It's not as if Blair and Bush are on a "Jump.. How high?" relationship.
Yes I am young and as I've said I really try to stay out of politics and the likes.
You're quite right M5 about expectations. On the one hand there is the argument that we ourselves couldn't do a better job but then we're not trained to now have we been chosen by the country to do so, therefore why should we be able to?
I wasn't aware of all these things that Tony Blair is doing, if he's getting rid of the Sterling Pound I take back everything I said, I love our Pounds!
Taxes, even worse! Ok so we are agreed that we don't like him then.
Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice and everyone dies.

it's hard to say if there were any better choices.
There were lots of better choices, and all those involved keeping British armed forces at home. Iraq didn't pose a threat to the UK - there were no weapons of mass destruction. Yes, Saddam was a big bad dictator, but so is Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe, Kim Jong-Il of North Korea, Than Shwe of Burma...all much worse and all are involved is executing political opponents and at least one of those poses a very real and scary threat to the south east Asian region. Iran is a more worrying threat in the Middle East - it does have weapons of mass destruction and is telling the UN they're not going to stop making them. All of the above actually pose far more danger than Iraq did from 1991. Why aren't we going after any of them? Because they have very real and very credible fighting forces, something that Iraq didn't have (easy target) - oh, and it's not in our interests, there's nothing to gain.
And at the end of the day, Tony Blair should have listened to the people who elected him. We didn't put him in power to not listen to us. The better choice was the will of the people, but he chose to ignore that. The majority of British people are livid that he decided not to listen to his electorate and in the local and European elections the Labour party were hammered. Their large majorities in council and EU seats were slashed and overturned - and that's the British people telling him that he should've taken the better choice. The UK will go to a General Election in 2005, and Labour might be in for a fright. The might well win the election, but with a considerably reduced minority. The party will then probably see Blair as a liability, and ditch him as leader.
As for ditching Sterling in favour of the Euro, that's not on the cards for the forseeable future. The Chancellor confirmed the economic tests have not been met and the decision to join the Euro has been shelved. However, if and when it does surface again in future, the choice will be put to the UK in a referendum, and with public opposition to the Euro relatively stable at 65% I can't see that happening. I think, for better or worse, Britain has now reached it's limit on European integration - I can't see it going any further.

I'm glad an Evil tyrant like Sadam Hussein has been removed from power. He is a murderer and a coward who tortured his own people.
So am I. Very glad. But we're not going after the rest of his ilk... I can add Sudan, Rwanda, Somalia and Burundi to the list above. No weapons of mass destruction there, but hundreds of thousands, indeed millions, are being hacked to bits with machetes in blatant widespread genocide. We have the power to stop them, but there's no oil fields or lucrative industry in return.
Anyway, it's a mute topic, I'm not looking to change anyone's opinions and it would be a drab grey world if we all agreed on everything, so we should get back to the happier stuff.
I like The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland because:
I like our flag loads.
I like our name loads!
I like the royal family we have.
I love most of our landmarks, natural and manmade.
I love our contryside.
I love the fact that we are seperate, on our own islands.
We have a colourful and interesting history.
I really like our language and the various accents you can find around the regions. I love them all!
We have a full and varying culture.
And before I boar everyone to death I'll finish off with the point that the Isles of Scilly are in the British isles, YAY!

Doesn't anybody like sandpeople? They're not so bad. I've got them all around my house! You should get out to the American Southwest some more.
The other things that would be in my personal list would be Admiral Piett (I liked the fact that by the time ROTJ came along, he looked pretty wore-out from working for Vader), the Millennium Falcon, and Chewbacca (or Wookies in general)
I believe I listed my favourite characters before, I would list them again but I'd hate to look stupid by contradicting myself! I still need to buy the trilogy on DVD, oh well.
Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice and everyone dies.
*Force hugs too, but knowledge of force is so bad it becomes force punch-in-the face*

Anyway, general, how have you been? Good to have such an esteemed gentleman back with us. MR5 might have taken your spot. . By the way, do you know the complete list of differences between the SE Star Wars DVD's and the originals?
Ahh, thank you. I am great - hope the lot of you are as well.
As a matter of fact though, I have been posting from time to time still, but rarely in Random Chat.
Sorry Tirpitz, I don't have a complete list of differences between the originals and the new DVD box set. But I know one thing, I am only buying the DVD box set for the special features and so I can see the changes for myself, but after that I'll still be watching my old VHS versions.
Removing Sebastian Shaw's face is a crime I tell you!
Hey we're going to buy the DVDs and watch them in French in our French lessons, how cool! But could someone just clarify for me that you can actually see them in French...?
Oh and does anyone know where I might find French Monty Python Scripts? Guess what for!
Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice and everyone dies.
dont even get me started on my love of all things Star Wars...i even read George Lucas' biography, frequently fight my cousin with lightsabers dressed in Jedi cloaks...and my master paln...to get figures of all the cool ships and even the not so cool ones and string them up on my celiling in an odd chase of sorts...^^
You know the program Brice 3d? Basically if you don't, it's a design program in 3D. You creat shapesand change them move them etc and it is very difficult and time consuming. Well anyway my graphics teacher recreated half of the entire fleet (light and dark I think) on this program. Then his PC crashed and he lost it all, so he started again! Yeah he's got way too much time on his hands!
Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice and everyone dies.
"Wilhuf?"
I'm sure he got teased for that one as a boy!
Next time you watch Star Wars watch Tarkin's face when the officer runs up and tells him about the rebel's attack: "We've analyzed their attack and there is a danger!"
For a split second there's an "Oh crap!" look on his face. I think it's pretty funny.
But you can still write with them, can't you? Are they black or blue ink? Are they the erasable kind? Maybe they're the "gravity" pens that can write while you're upside down. (You never know what Vader's gonna do to you)

He's the only one who put up working with Vader (talk about a moody boss, sheesh!)
Great line from a great villain
I cant help, but to agree.

Perhaps someone can tell me what those large ball-point pen things were in their front tunic pockets.
