Just saving the topic from the 2nd page. I wonder, have we ever discussed the book All Quiet on the Western Front? I just read it and thought it was great. Unfortunately, extremely sad as well. Any other thoughts?

I read it a few weeks ago and thought it was very good. It was different than I expected, but it didnt dissapoint me. We've talked a little about the book in the 'First World War' thread, but I am sure we can continue it here. It did end on a sad note, but I got over it.

I've heard of this book, what's it about? (I mean obviously WW1 but what specifically?)

It is about a 20 year old German soldier's experience in the war. It is against the war but it just focuses around him and his friends. Emilio Largo does a pretty good description in The First World War thread.

Although it sounds good, it doesn't sound like my kind of book! I'm not sure about books, I think I am just picky! For some reason I get addicted to reading harry potter!

Every time a new one comes out, I get in that addiction. I hope she gets the last 2 out before I become disinterested (I doubt Ill get that way though). I know six will be coming soon, hopefully between January and June of next year (or earlier).

Mr. Martini, I am afraid I havent seen the movie, Ill have to add it to my 'I have to see this' list.

Be sure you get the Oscar winning movie made in 1930 I beleive. Yes, it's on DVD. I don't know if there's another version of it or not.

My dad says he's eaten bulls testicle...

Did he call them Rocky Mountain Oysters? And be warned, if your ever offered Lamb Fries don't take them. You might be able to guess what they are. Similar to the bull thing, but only a lamb.

. . . Uh, if everyone doesn't mind, I'm going to take the liberty to change the subject. . . . ;) (no offense to anyone, of course)

So, anyway, is anyone taking a foreign language? I'm taking French. I can speak a little . . .

Je viens toujours à l'école en voiture.
(I always come to school by car) :D

I'm assuming that I said that right, but don't hold me to it! ;) :))

    Hey!
I can't speak French! You'd better not be saying anything bad about us!
  • tirpitztirpitz Posts: 339MI6 Agent
Why would they say anything bad about us? They're Americans, if anything they are us. And, I take German and Spanish.

Me habla Espanol muy malo, aber ich spreche Deutsch gut.

Well, I don't know exactly what Vesperkitten was saying, but I think it had something to do with "Yes, I speak French."

No one is saying bad puns in foreign languages, as far as I know. :s ;) I have no idea how to speak German, though.

So now we are speaking foreign languages?

Szerintem lehet nyelvtudás nélkül élni. Nekem például van egy középfokú német nyelvvizsgám, de egy szót se tudok (már) németül. Számomra az angol elégnek biszonyult eddig, ezért lehetek most itt. Valahogy sohasem láttam hasznát annak, hogy több nyelven is megtanuljak. Azért csak így tovább, gyerekek! Tietek a jövő!

Míg el nem felejtem, Sly Fox! Tudtad, hogy a neved úgy fordítják magyarra, hogy Ravasz Róka?

To answer Miss Kitten, the zeist of it that I admit that learning languages isn't that important. My example is that I have a German language exam, but I'll never use THAT language again. That was our deal with God. :) The ending is to those brave kids who still learn languages, and that the future is theirs. :)

Oh, an the PS was meant for The Sly Fox, I'll decode that only if he is interested.

I'm not even going to ask.

I think we are taking the name of the thread (Random chat) a little to plainly!

It's my birthday on Thursday and still no preparation has been made as to baying presents! Oh well!

Well, since this is the random chat after all:

French speakers: are the four conjunctions that take the present subjunctive (and past subjunctive) are followed by a "ne" pleonastique "a moins que," "de peur que," "de crainte que," and "de sorte que"?

I'm attempting to relearn the subjunctive by tomorrow afternoon, which probably isn't such a smart idea on my part.
Flattery will get you nowhere, but don't stop trying.

I can think of more exciting ways to spend an afternoon... ;)

The only French word I know is "plastique" and I'm not even sure that really counts.

    What's French for "detonater"?
