I'll have to check out "The Matwix," though I looked and I couldn't find any book called "The Matwix"--all I found was a Loony Tunes movie by that name on IMDb, but it had no poster picture or comments on the film. . . . Any way I could find the book?

I was looking back on the first few pages of the thread when i noticed Sly had only 1 post left to 1000, nice one!
Thanks, Jedi! I was holding off so that I could make a grand 1,000th Post! It's up now, in the Films Forum, "TWINE Review: 1000th Post Milestone." . . . Not only was it a milestone for my Post Count, but it was a milestone in my typing skills, as well! It only took an hour to type it! )
Do people actually called hand chimes bells? I'm curious because I lead a small group called the Electric Penguin Anarchist Bell Choir (nobody came up with a better name, so we'll probably stick with that), and people tend to be quite puzzled to see us playing with individual hand chimes that play one note each. They tend to expect us to use the sorts of bells that you ring in a church or something like that.
Flattery will get you nowhere, but don't stop trying.

Hey Tracy, that sounds good to me. I've seeen a show with the bells that you talk about. Very, very cool show. Put on by a local church. Tickets were free. The one thing I remember about the show is the bells. Just curious Tracy, does your group play in front of a big crowd?
Some people would complain even if you hang them with a new rope

Our first major concert (along with the school choirs and orchestra) had about a hundred and twenty in the audience, and our second performance had a good four hundred and twenty people in attendance. Tomorrow we'll probably play in front of at least a hundred and fifty people in the cafeteria to annoy (or is it serenade?) anyone who's eating lunch there. We haven't really played outside of my school yet, but hopefully that will change in the spring when we have a bigger repetoire and more non-holiday music to play . I know that our official conductor was thinking about having us play with her church choir in Sunnyvale.
And Pred, I guess you can say that we're amateur campanologists .

That sounds awesome Tracy. Good luck with the concerts. You've got me thinking now. The show I went to see was called The Living Tree I belive. It was put on by a church not a school. It was in San Mateo also, if I remember right. One question. I see you mention Sunnyvale, have you heard of The Living Tree? Do you know if the group still plays around the holidays?

Sorry for going off topic, but I have to tell this to the world!
Well guys, I have finally found an avatar that suits me!
It took a fair amount of digging on Google (not the Image Search) to find one that was in the public domain--true public domain, meaning it truly isn't copyrighted, and not just something that someone posts somewhere, claiming that it is free. It took a lot of digging to find it because most stock photo sources charge you an arm and a leg just for one picture!
However, just about everything that is published by the U.S. Government is royalty-free. I know that this particular picture is, because I found it on the U.S. Fish and Wildlife website, and it said underneath it: "Rights: (public domain)."

Ah, y'see my mother rings church bells, but apparantly they hate being called campanologists!
Hmmm...you know, I've never actually heard of anyone using that term until now. We're generally called the electric penguins, but I'm afraid that only applies to our particular group .
Mr. Martini, sadly I've never heard of the group that you described. I live roughly around the same area as you, but I didn't even realize that there were bell choirs performing locally. I'll ask our conductor if she's ever heard of them, and if I do find out where they're performing next I'll tell you.

I saw one of those bell choirs in Denver a few weekends ago, they were really cool...I used to know how to play those, I was taught in Elementary school in like, 2-3rd grade...it was chalenging
Are we talking about Hand Bell ringing now? I've done some hand bell ringing! We have a local group of, dare I say it, old ladies (and a couple of men I think) who play and sometimes they let others have a go too! I have become reasonably good at it!
Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice and everyone dies.

It is actually quite challenging-not in the individual playing (unless you hit the bell the wrong way and the hammer becomes too loose), it's coordinating everyone to play at the right time. That, and finding the right music to play can be difficult. At this rate I'm just going to arrange a bunch of pieces with a friend because it's so hard to find sheet music specifically arranged for bells.
Nice to see that there are so many people here who like hand bells )

Sorry to sound like a modern pop culture barbarian, but can someone please explain to me why this TV melodrama is so popular? I've heard the music's quite nice but otherwise there's nothing particularly original about it.

naw, I don't watch that show, my friends and I say it a lot at school, only cuz I have a whole bunch of non-christian friends...
Oh I gotcha, probably wasn't, it's probably just that I'm dead in the head from staying up 'til midnight staring at a PC screen trying to type english which is 100% gramatically correct! I fail dismally sometimes! Is dismally even a word?!

What do you mean TV melodrama?!
I was referring to the OC...sorry if that was confusing!
The OC is just this TV series on Fox about a poor kid in a rich neighborhood with a problematic girlfriend and society. That isn't much of a summary, but that's about it.

You seem to like the Matrix, JM - so you could get "The Matwix" - sure to be a laugh if you like the series.

Right, by the way the book is called The Matewix rather than The Matwix.

Yes
But are all bellringers campanologists?
