Good article. It refers to stocking up on patio heaters, but my local Morrison's will only let you buy 3 at a time. :D
  • ThunderpussyThunderpussy Behind you !Posts: 63,792MI6 Agent
Is that to do with Covid ? can only three patio heaters meet up ? :D

Ah, I think you can only buy 3 at a time but you're right, no more than 6 of them can meet up. :)

I'm impressed with everyone's ability to grasp the essentials of the article :v

I remember my national service near Tromsø where we only got about an hour of ....... non- darkness in the middle of the winter. It certainly affected our mood and energy levels. In my opinion artificial light (candle light etc), being active and social and mind-set was important to cope. The author of the article isn't aware that hygge is also a Norwegian word. I belive koselig is better explained by translaing it to cozy, the words probably share the samme root.

I'm kind of the opposite (well they say there's always one!). I was out with a group of teenagers at an evening event with street performers etc ,a couple of years ago, that was to end in fireworks. It was light at the start of the evening. I was in a happy mood but soon noticed that I felt much happier and so alive. I didn't understand why then realised it had gotten dark :) I love to go walking at night.

I have a friend who moved to Denmark and he explained the word hygge to me. I recently came across a small restaurant near Cardiff, Wales called hygge.

There are lots of positive things about winter and darkness. I remember walking around the neighbourhood last winter and everytning was glittering from the snow and frost. It looked magical. While there are a few lights on at night we also see the stars better than in the cities.

I live in a city. Thankfully, it has a lot of parks and wooded areas and I'm lucky to live near some of them. I usually take a bunch of kids away once a year (on a sort of camp but indoors) and they are amazed at the amount of stars they can see. Some 12 to 14 year olds are afraid of walking in the dark. They are used to being driven everywhere. It's so sad.

Has anyone explained the concept of Higgy to you? It's kind of the opposite, just when you think you have something cozily explained in your mind, a 'Higgy' opinion gets posted and kind of confuses the hell out of you. The concept is usually visually represented by green trainers, but few know the mystical origins of this tradition.

One of my small pleasures, is walking through some woods, when its windy
    and listening to the
creaking of the trees. :) As for the dark nights, I'm not a fan, I like sunshine and
warm weather, although I do have an astronomy app that show the names of the
stars and planets in the night sky. Which is fun and informative when out walking
    at night.

I've often read of these green trainers and wondered about them. Maybe they could be added to the smilies as a new icon!

Creaking trees are great. I also like walking in woods when it's dark or with a full moon. Add a couple of bats and you can't beat it. My husband often calls me a vampire :))

I don't like it too hot and prefer a nip in the air.

Btw I like your avatar. I'm not a fan of Superheroes but Batman is the exception. Probably because my brother gave me a Batmobile when I was a kid. He didn't want it anymore because it was broken. But I didn't care, it was a Batmobile!

Maybe we should lobby for a Batman icon! Though I am a bit concerned that he's not wearing his mask properly. I thought the idea was to have the nose and mouth covered! I hope he understands social distancing :))

:)) He probably already has a Bat-Vaccine for it, he sorted out the scarecrow quick enough. ;)

On the mask think, I have a mate who due to medical reasons is exempt from having to wear one.
Who told me he has on average at least three or four arguments a day from angry people !!! We
    are living in Crazy times.

On overhearing Teenagers conversations, I was in B&Q recently and heard a couple of Teens
    talking about " Tongue and Groove " .... I guess that's the music they're in to. ;)

What is probably the remains of a temple to the Norse gods such as Odin and Thor has been found about half an hour's drive from here. No other pagan temples has been found in Norway, so this is very exciting for a history buff like me!

An artist's illustration of how the temple could have looked:

You can find a computer animation of what it looked like here: https://www.nrk.no/mr/sensasjonelt-funn-av-heidensk-kulthus-i-orsta-1.15178077

This article about swearing parrots made me laugh and cheered me up, after a tough evening. :)) Hopefully, it will do the same for anyone else who needs a laugh.

I just found out my sister doesn't use a saw or axe to cut the Christmas tree - they shot it with a shotgun! :))
Several families meet up in a forrest on a farm and warm hotdogs on a fire. Then they search for good Christmas trees. 3-4 people bring shotguns and they shoot the trunks of the trees off. Brilliant!
  • lotusguy2001lotusguy2001 Posts: 132MI6 Agent
But after they shoot it, don’t they have to saw the trunk even in order to set the tree up?
  • Number24Number24 NorwayPosts: 22,322MI6 Agent
    I didn't ask.

People with very good memories may remember most of the cabin by the frozen lake scenes for NTTD were filmed in Hakadal. I'm listening to a podcast about the Norwegian kings. (wait for the link ...)
Harald Fairhair became the first king of Norway because a beautiful woman named Gyda said she only would marry him if he gathered all of Norway into his kingdom. One of the first kings he killed was king Hake. hence "Hakkadal. the valley of Hake". Hake's father kept fighting Harald for a while before he too lost in battle and died. His name was Gandalf! It is likely this Gandalf was the inspiration for the name of Tolkien's wizard, because it was a rare name and Tolkinen no doubt read "Heimskringla", the saga of the Norwegian kings, by Snorri Sturlason.
Yet another link between LotR and 007! :D

I can see another imaginary conversation coming :))

Did Gyda marry Harald? Hope she didn't change her mind!
