I feel like that sometimes. But hey we don't all have all the time in the world to be thinking of witticisms!

So we are having a 24 hour music marathon at school and my music teacher (a fantastically cool guy and amazing pianist) had the brilliant idea of bookin half an hour for Bond themes and dressing up for it!

Sounds like fun Jedi! I just learned how to play the Bond theme on the piano. My sis ter takes lessons and I play by ear so I just figured it out and now i can listen to it when ever i want.

And Jedi don't forget to respect your elders! :))

We came up with the English Language, and when a load of the British went over to America centuries ago, our language got screwed up... and therefore..

    American English was born!

The Real Story Behind American English:

Schoolmaster and lawyer Noah Webster devised a simplified and Americanized way of spelling English words in order to allow the new American nation to develop its own unique culture. He published the American Spelling Book in 1783 and sold over 100 million copies. This spelling book became the best-selling book in American history apart from the Bible. He later incorporated his speller into An American Dictionary of the English Language, published in 1828, which established a national standard of words and usages.

Ah, the arcane things one learns in an AP US History class...

Yes there are some differences that make sense but some things I really don't like! (obviously no offense!) For example calling trousers pants, what's with that?!

    Anyway!

Anyone going to the Lazenby event , I asked a hotel and they wanted like 140£/night which is ridiculous.

Aren't there any guest houses that have decent prices ??

I think I'll be skipping this one unless I find decent room prices.

Perhaps you can PM asio, ohmss1969; he's also going to the Lazenby event and started a thread about local hotel recommendations some time ago.

    I'll start off.
    crisps-chips

We don't call it sidewalk, and I don't even use pavement.. I just call it a "path". :)

    bonnet - hood
    wheel trim - hub cap

Don't Americans call sweets "candy", including chocolate? In America, you'd say "Candy Bar", whereas we'd say "chocolate bar".

What the hell are panty-hose anyway? Are they what we call "tights"? :)

I'm just wondering, as I don't want to start another topic here, what are your musical tastes? So far, I've found I've liked a weird variety of songs, ranging from Scotch-Irish music to even punk rock. I hope the other's around here's tastes are not so varied. :)

I usually listen to 60's and 70's rock'n roll. Some Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin, Cream, and many, many more bands along those lines. There are not too many recent bands that I like, but I will listen to new ones like Jet or The Kings of Leon. Other recent bands are ones that I just like a song or two of theirs. My only tradition that I started with a CD is listening to Abbey Road every Saturday. I got the CD for Christmas and started the traditon in late January.

Thank you, Barbel, for your insightful comments, but do we really need more of that? I for one do not agree with what you say, but I'm not going into that (yet again). It seems this kind of thing will never end. . . .

Okay, now that I said that, I can talk music. ;) I recently found some old LP gems in Goodwill--I've found the 1980s Elton John record, 21 at 33. It has some good songs on it, one that I found myself singing earlier today! But I found one other thing as well that is probably very valuable . . . An original Star Wars soundtrack record from 1977! Though the envelope (if that's what you call it) is a little beat-up, the two records in it are in near-perfect condition! There are very few visible scratches, all of them are minor, and the sound is almost flawless! :D

As for my tastes in music, they are slightly varied. One of my favorite styles is Classic Rock, like One Night Stand. The Beatles and that sort of thing. I like some modern music, though I find myself actually buying very little of it. But one thing that I have found a new liking for is . . . Japanese music! No, not the traditional five-note music that you might think of, but some of the new Rock music that they have. Though I do not speak a word of Japanese, I find myself reading and memorizing romanized lyrics (Japanese characters converted to something like: "tekisuto," meaning "text")! :)

    (a) Only a joke, based on British/American English. No deeply felt political comment intended. :)

    (b) "21 at 33" was a good album in a poor period for Elton John. Some of Gary Osborne's lyrics are pretty weak, but the return of both Taupin (for 3 songs) and the old band were promising signs that things would get better- which they did.

    (c) The "Star Wars" soundtrack is a good find, should be worth a penny or two. The "envelope" is called a sleeve.

    (a) Oh, okay. Sorry I took that the wrong way. :)

    (b) I should start typing more in this "a, b, c" manner. ;)

    (c) Thanks for letting me know what it was called. I now remember hearing it being called a sleeve someplace, I guess I just didn't think of it at the time. :)

    (d) I'm actually surprised that a Star Wars soundtrack would be left in Goodwill like that . . . You'd think the person who owned it would want to hold onto something like that.

Actually, I've kind of been hoping someone could tell me of some good groups! Honestly, I only started a few weeks ago when I was looking for animé soundtracks. When I was refering to Japanese Rock music, I was actually just talking about the Japanese Pokémon soundtrack that I recently heard--it sounded like Rock to me! :)) And anyone who doesn't know much about it can believe me that it is completely different and far better than its English counterpart. But to be specific, the majority of the songs from it (including the theme song) are performed by Rica Matsumoto. I think she's an excellent singer. So I guess you could say I know of one Japanese performer! :)

I seem to have this newfound liking for Japanese culture that I never used to have. I think it started when I saw The Last Samurai. I found the Japanese language to be very interesting and sound very good, thus I started looking for music from it. I thought I'd start with the original Japanese music from one of my favorite shows when I was eleven or twelve years old. I really like what I've found, but now I don't know what other bands, groups or performers to look for. :)

But anyway, what are your favorite JPop/JRock bands, Delon64? :)

Well, everyone, my new avatar is up! It is from the Mozilla Firefox browser, of which I much prefer to Internet Explorer. What do you think? Is this better than the arctic fox, or that a better one? :D

By the way, this second post was to separate the subjects. I find that writing multiple subjects in posts tends to be somewhat ineffective. :)

Well, erm . . . Could you perhaps tell me who Maria is? Is she someone I know? If she is and I've forgotten who she is, then my apologies go out to her. :)

But if I have an honorable cause for it, it's that I want to promote the use of Mozilla Firefox over Internet Explorer. But if we're talking strictly avatars, I just like the picture. ;)

But I take it from this that you don't like it. . . .

Edit: Never mind what I said about going back to one of my long-past ones, as I'm just going to go back to the arctic fox that I just recently removed. My reasons for this are on the next page. . . .

Oh, by the way, Tracy: on the contrary, this could be a good disguise for me--changing my fur to red! No one will know that I am still secretly a member of the Prestigious Order of White Fur, but the picture will have a little hint of "world domination" in it, no? ;) :))
