    Definite, and her replacement announced!

She's currently filming The Ruby In The Smoke, in which she plays Sally Lockhart in an adaptation of Philip Pullman's novels for the BBC.

Ah, pardon me, I missed the news about Freema Agyeman.

I haven't seen the episode she was in, though she certainly looks beautiful.
    Hopefully she'll be good.
I have to admit, though, I have a particular soft spot for Ms Piper. Or rather............ :D

Hey folks, I've gotten really into Dr Who! But I have a question, what are the conditions to the Dr's regeneration? Does he just do it any time he dies or what?
Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice and everyone dies.

Well, if he's dying fairly slowly (radiation poisoning, old age) he can regenerate his body into another, but he can be killed in much the same way as humans in most cases. Time Lords have also been shown to regenerate through personal choice, although not the Doctor so far (he is rather running out of lives- they're only supposed to be able to do it twelve times; although I'm sure they'll find a way around that!).

Woah I just had a major flashback or someting! I swear I've asked you that and you've told me that before! Must be some kind of TARDISy type thing! What do you think?!

Great pics, but Martha's red-leather jacket makes this new series of Doctor Who look like a prequel to Die Another Day.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Doctor Who took first, second and third place in this years Hugo awards in the 'short form drama' catagory- which is actually pretty amazing. They're the big US sci-fi awards and for a UK series like Dr Who to do so well, well; it's big big news for Who.

Woo - GO WHO!!! I went to stay with some friends at their caravan this weekend. Me and the rest of the kids went down to the club near by and I was wearing my Dalek shirt and the comedian on made some joke - he was dead good.
The joke was something like, "D'you know Garry Glitter's gonna be the next Doctor Who? His assistants are gonna be K9 and Claire10!"
    Relax darling, I'm on top of the situation -{

They also cleared up the TV Quick & TV Choice Awards too.

BBC Radio 1 DJ and former Top Of The Pops presenter Reggie Yates has been cast as Martha Jones's brother for series 3. Mum, dad and sister have also been cast, so I assume there's going to be room for all the Joneses...

I must say I was lucky enough to see the Doctor himself this week!

I was up in London having some drinks on friday night, strolled back along the south bank and, who did I see but, well, Who! They were filming at the Globe Theatre (for a Shakespare episode, natch. Yes; saw him too! He's being played by the guy who plays the neighbour in Shameless - is it Kev?); lots of trucks, loads of welshmen setting everything up, and lots of Elizabethans. And inside the theatre I could plainly see a very tall and quite striking Scotsman in his full suit and long coat combo! The Doctor in full costume! Hurrah!

Oh you won't see him in London much- you'll need to move to Wales, I'm afraid!

In an odd note, the latest Guiness Book of Records has named Stargate SG1 as the longest continually running sci-fi series. It has run for ten years. Dr Who ran continuously from 1963 to 1989, with an 18 month hiatus in 1986. Can anyone work this out?

Here's some fun news: there's another new series of Doctor Who starting this Christmas!

The Eighth Doctor, Paul McGann, has recorded a new series of 6 50 minute radio episodes for broadcast on BBC7 over Christmas. His new companion Lucie Miller is played by Sheridan Smith (the lovely star of Two Packets of Crisps and Grownups) and he'll be joined by plenty of guest stars like Timothy West, Kenneth Cranham, Bernard Cribbins and Nigel Havers, plus the two two parter stories will see him up against the Daleks and the Cybermen.

Good Christmas for Doctor Who fans!

In yet more new series news: Sarah Janes Investigates has been commisioned as a series! And there's even a star from the Bond films in it!

Multi-award winning writer Russell T Davies has written a brand new series for CBBC called The Sarah Jane Adventures. It stars one of The Doctor's most famous companions, investigative journalist Sarah Jane Smith.

Russell T Davies says: "Children's TV has a fine history of fantasy thrillers - I loved them as a kid, and they were the very first things I ever wrote. So it's brilliant to return to such a vivid and imaginative area of television."

The series begins with a 60-minute special which will be broadcast in early 2007 with the series due later in the year.

Set in present-day West London, the programme stars original Sarah Jane actress Elizabeth Sladen and Yasmin Paige, who plays her 13-year-old neighbour Maria.

The two form an unlikely alliance to fight evil alien forces at work in Britain.

Elizabeth says: "I left Sarah Jane but she never left me. I can't wait to return to Cardiff to find out what's going to happen to her next."

In the special, Maria and Sarah Jane are brought together in their battle against the scheming Ms Wormwood, played by Samantha Bond.

Filming begins next month on location in Wales, with the series going into production in spring 2007.

Creative Director of CBBC, Anne Gilchrist, says: "CBBC viewers have already proved themselves to be enormous fans of Dr Who. I am thrilled that they'll now have this new series as an extra-special treat."

Sarah Jane Smith was a companion to the third and fourth Doctors, Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker, and was a regular in the series from 1973 to 1976.

She made a recent return in the 2006 episode School Reunion opposite David Tennant, the tenth Doctor.

Russell T Davies' hugely successful Doctor Who has a Christmas Special due this year, with a third series broadcast in Spring 2007.

The hotly-anticipated Torchwood, following the adventures of Captain Jack, begins this autumn on BBC THREE.

The Sarah Jane Adventures is written by Russell T Davies and Gareth Roberts. It was commissioned by Jane Tranter for BBC Drama, and Anne Gilchrist and Jon East for CBBC. It is produced by BBC Wales and will transmit on the CBBC Channel and CBBC on BBC ONE.

The Executive Producers are Julie Gardner and Russell T Davies. The Producer of the special is Susie Liggat and the Director is Colin Teague. The Producer of the series is Matthew Bouch and the Series Producer is Phil Collinson.

    Notes to Editors

K-9, the faithful robot dog and Sarah Jane's goodbye present from The Doctor, makes an appearance in the special but will not appear in the series.

Sad about the lack of K9, though. :(

How old is Elisabeth Sladen? We were talking about this at work the other day - that woman is astonishingly well preserved - she is at least in her mid-fifties.

Can't you just imagine Tegan, Peri and Bonnie frigging Langford are all banging on the doors of Television Centre now demanding their own spin offs? :D

58 I believe. She does look great and it's also rather heartening to see someone of her age get a series in which she isn't cast as some old lady; she's just Sarah Jane.

But go on BBC, get K9 in there too. ;)

Interesting piece of casting news - Thelma Barlow, 77, who played timid Mavis Wilton in Coronation Street for 26 years, will star as villianess Lady Thaw in an episode to be shown in the new series. She's also well known for her role in sitcom Dinner Ladies.

Despite being famous for a very long stint in a soap opera and a sitcom, I've seen her in several dramas (and the film Mrs Henderson Presents) and she's a great actress; both light and dark sides.

Interesting point at the end of the story though, that series three will kick off with "a one hour special" early next year.

I'd guess they're mixing that up with the Christmas special. Might be wrong, though.

The new season of Doctor Who finally materialized (yuk yuk) in the US of A, with the episodes The Christmas Invasion and New Earth shown in a back-to-back two and a half hour extravaganza on the Sci Fi Channel. So, where to begin, where to begin. . .

Tenant--love him! I thought the Xmas episode was a fairly run-of-the mill adventure, but it really came to life once the Doctor finished his regeneration (With tea? How veddy English!) and Tenant began his antics, complete with a Monty Python "gumby" and a running patter that would make Robin Williams's head spin. Sheesh--how could they keep him in bed for most of the episode?

I think what I most like about Tenant is that there's something mid-1960s about him. . .maybe it's the John Lennon askew tie, or the David Hemings toussled hair, or the Davy Jones impishness. I dunno--I could just see him as part of the swingin' 60s--the time when Doctor Who first came into existence.

Billie Piper--annoying in the Christmas episode ("Boo hoo hoo! He's not my Doctor!"), but hilarious vamping as Cassandra in New Earth. And I had no idea that was Zoe Wannamaker doing Cassandra until I saw her in the closing scene.

The episodes themselves--it seems as though the new Whos I've most enjoyed are those not written by Russell T. Davies. He never seems to move far from earth--either it's present-day earth or earth in the far distant future, and he stays true to form in these episodes. Then there are the tiresome running jokes ("I'm the Prime Minister"--"We know who you are"--har, har!); the fascination with uninteresting characters (wow--a giant pickled Olmec head!); and is it just me, or does he manage to slip in a message of "those-Americans-are-a-bunch-of-war-mongering-yahoos-and-we're-in-danger-of-becoming-just-like-them" in just about every one of his episodes?

Those complaints aside, this season looks great, and I'm happy we've got it--and less than a year after it ran in the UK!

Trailer for Torchwood straght after the debut episode of Robin Hood tonight (which I greatly enjoyed - nice to see BBC claiming back the Saturday evening slot with quality big budget family entertainment), just said "Coming soon on BBC Three" but it did look rather good!

Had a brief look online there to see if the trailer was on the BBC website, but no luck yet.

After missing a few episodes this year, I watched the final episode of the new series "Doomsday" on Saturday night with my girlfriend.
One thing I did wonder about, when the ... went into the void, what happened to Sarah Jane Smith? I would think that she'd still have time-travel-causing radioactive waves upon her (plenty!) so wouldn't she go in as well?

And all the rest of the Doctor's previous assistants! Who knows - maybe the particles wear off over time (SJS didn't time travel in School Reunion)...

No- it was void stuff; only attached to those who had travelled through the void between dimensions; not between times. Sarah Jane has never been to another dimension so doesn't have any void stuff on her.
