The first on-set pictures of Dame Diana Rigg can be seen by clicking the link below. Filming is currently taking place in Rhymney, Wales. It looks like the episode is set in the Victorian era.

As I understand, five episodes of the new series will be broadcast on BBC One before Christmas. The dates have yet to be announced. The Christmas special will be followed by eight episodes some time in the new year.

Terrible formatting for the show. I respect Moffat for his story telling style and production, but he really should hand the scheduling duties over to someone else.

Agreed, I can't quite see the need to split series in half like this. But at least we are getting more soon! Plus there should be more Sherlock next year, I think!

You don't honestly think that Moffat has any pull as to when and how the shows are shown, do you ? The BBC tell him what they want - and he has to adhere to that...

I don't know about this. Keeping in mind it was his idea to split the 2011 series into two halves so he could have a nail-biting mid-year cliffhanger. Yes, I know, the cliffhanger was far from it but Moffat did go on record as saying that's what he wanted for the program in that particular year.

So, it appears the next time we'll have a full series won't be until 2014. I'd be very interested to see if Matt is still with us or if they'll use the 2013 specials as regeneration episodes.

Wouldn't surprise me when Moffat told him to get ready to cry when it came to their fourth series.

Well, if there is going to be a re-cast, Robert Carlisle is the man. He was given serious consideration for the 11th Doctor but was soon put aside due to his commitments on Stargate Universe. Now that the show has been cancelled, lets get him on board while we can.

Hmmm, interesting thought! I certainly think they need to go with somebody older for the next doctor. Although the whole "fall of the eleventh" "silence will fall when the question is asked" plot line seems to be suggesting that he's gonna snuff it... but then I guess they always suggest that!

Cautiously optimistic. Of course, the production looks outstanding and even more developed than when we last saw it. Not that there's a lot to go by, i'm just worried some of the writing might take a back seat to the spectacle. We'll see.

A special one-off drama about the creation of Doctor Who has been commissioned to mark the 50th anniversary. An Adventure in Space and Time will tell the story of the genesis of the BBC sci-fi show in the early 1960's. The 90 minute drama will air on BBC Two next year. Writer Mark Gatiss, "This is the story of how an unlikely set of brilliant people created a true television original."

Matt Smith has committed to Series 8 meaning he will remain as Doctor Who until at least 2014. Steven Moffat convinced him to stay by pitching his idea. Smith is quoted, "It hasn't been written yet but the idea is as brilliant and as mental as you'd expect from Steven. So there's a lot to look forward to."

So he's possibly outdo Tennant's tenure. Interestingly enough, in an interview he gave not so long ago, his plan was not to outdo Tom Baker's time in the role. I can see Matt doing two more full seasons after the upcoming one on the show. That makes a total of five, a pretty good number.

The BBC has released a short teaser trailer for Asylum of the Daleks.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00xk7zc

Here is some information which I will hide under a Spoiler tag.
Kidnapped by his oldest foe, the Doctor is forced on an impossible mission - to a place even the Daleks are too terrified to enter... the Asylum. A planetary prison confining the most terrifying and insane of their kind, the Doctor and the Ponds must find an escape route. But with Amy and Rory's relationship in meltdown, and an army of mad Daleks closing in, it is up to the Doctor to save their lives, as well as the Ponds marriage.

Australia is getting the DW seasons fast tracked for download via our channel website (ABC) the day after it airs in the UK when usually we'd have to wait almost a month for a new episode. The download predates the actual Australian airdate by a week. I look forward to discussing the new episodes in what will be an unprecedented timely fashion :)

I'm so pleased to hear that! My pen pal has always had to try and view them on YouTube quickly before they're taken down. In this digital age it seems right that everyone should get things around the same time! :)
