Really impressed by Capaldi, far more assured in the role even after only a few episodes than the insecure, OTT mugging of Tennant and Smith; Capaldi seems - possibly due to age and experience - comfortable that he can actually "act" the Doc.
This episode once more let Capaldi take centre stage (though I think "ROBIN HOOD" & "LISTEN" were better episodes) after the dire regeneration episode and the silly inside-the-Dalek story, episodes in which you'd be hard pressed to actually believe he was the lead.
Also, credit to Moff after the way he has so rapidly shifted the Doc-Clara dynamic, and so successfully; the carry-over relationship from Smith and the way it was tastelessly fannied about with in the regen episode suggested disaster. Moff has pulled off a remarkably successful reimaging.
Agreed, the Humour between the Doc and Clara is fantastic, I laugh out loud at some of their Interactions. )
If Coleman is dropped at Xmas perhaps due to fears of any implications of an improper relationship in the Tardis, I will be disappointed. And I concede I was extremely concerned that with Capaldi's casting after Smith, we could easily have had Operation Yew Tree in Space.
That said, if she does go, then shoving Robin Hood in the Tardis would be a wild idea. The banter between the Doc and Rob really did spark.
I actually think the generation difference, works for the show, adding plenty
Of humour, ( her heads so big, she needs three mirrors !) and now hope that
If there is a new companion, she's not closer to His age, as then we'll probably
Just get another boring " will they, won't they romance rubbish" . Which I'm
Really done with now.
"I've been informed that there ARE a couple of QAnon supporters who are fairly regular posters in AJB."
Not sure we'd get the "will they won't they" scenario with Capaldi; he's got the uninterested, dare one say "asexual" vibe that we haven't seen in WHO since McCoy. Besides, he looks so old and feeble at times he doesn't quite look up to it. )
Besides, time to get Susan back. She must be out there somewhere. Most Classic Who characters have been.
Well, that was. . .interesting. I didn't expect a love-triangle episode in the Capaldi era. . .but at least they made it clear that the Doctor was responding more as a father who doesn't think Danny is good enough for his "girl." Still. . . I also have to wonder what is up with this recurring theme of robots being stranded at different periods in earth history. I guess it's all tied in with this "Promised Land" stuff. . .either that, or it's really lazy writing. And I couldn't help but think that in the U.S., any show where a white character first assumes a teacher of African descent is a P.E. teacher and that a student of African descent would be taking "shoplifting" classes would generate waves of protest. As it is, maybe BBC America has something to worry about. . .
Just to jump to the defence of the UK. sure there have been problems
Race wise in the past ( and I'm certain, they're not perfect now ) in the 60s
Many guest houses had signs saying " No Blacks, No Irish & No Dogs".
Richard Harris kept one for years as a reminder of how far Britain had come.
Although unlike America, we don't have the slavery or civil rights history hanging
Over us.
What I've see of American TV they still keep couples in their race groups, in that
A white guy will be married to a white woman etc. Where as here in the UK with
Many TV shows, soaps, crime dramas etc we've see so many couples of all
Races married or living together, even adverts show the many different groups
Living in modern Britain.
So with me being an average guy ( apart from my stunning good looks ) here's
My take on the two scenes mentioned.
Kid, getting lessons in shoplifting,
To me this is more a " Stereotype " joke, as he's an inner city kid, so must be
Up to stealing etc. Agree not very PC and I'm sure there are many good families
Living in these estates doing their best for their kids and trying to give them a
Better life.
Soldier being a PE Teacher,
Like most, I'd say I don't think of the average soldier as being all that bright
( sorry to all the ex-service guys ) ) , probably a bit of " middle class" writing
Here. Expecting all a soldier to know about was keep fit. Also under a government
Scheme soldiers can be " fast Tracted" into teaching within two years now.
Only my two cents, with Britain being ( just my opinion) years, if not decades
Ahead of the USA in its mix of many cultures, races and traditions. I don't think
It would cause the "complaints" that it might get in America.
As to the episode itself, I'll be watching it this afternoon, as I was out last night.
"I've been informed that there ARE a couple of QAnon supporters who are fairly regular posters in AJB."
Watched the episode, loved it, very funny ( some great lines) . I think
The Doctor simply doesn't like or think highly of soldiers hence why he
Can't think of a soldier teaching mathematics. and most older people
Regard all teenagers as trouble, shoplifting, anti social behaviour etc. Yet
Most teens are fine. )
As pointed out before after a funny story, we get a creepy one, next week looks
Really creepy fun.

This was another 'filler' episode...just to move the Doctor/Clara/Danny dynamic along...some great 'banter' in this episode though....
Didn't think - as Hardyboy mentioned - that as Danny was/is black he must be a PE teacher, I just went with the 'as he was a soldier he couldn't be a Maths teacher' story the Doctor used...
+1, -{ I also got a great compliment ( well I think so ) ) My wife for
Some reason hates Peter Capaldi and mentioned my oldest daughter
( who's a big who fan) didn't like him either ! So watching the episode this
morning, I asked.
She was all a fronted at the idea and said she loved him as the Dr. " It's
Mum who doesn't like him. She complained so much through last nights
Story. I had to ask her to keep quiet or leave the room "
She then went on to point out why I might like him so much as the Dr, as
according to her I "go on " like him, so you're sort of watching yourself ! )
I'm so chuffed at hearing that. although I'm now wondering if my wife
May have transfered her dislike of Me to him ? )
Just belatedly watched a job lot of new Who, having been overseas;
Listen - superb, creepy and epic in scope - though I'm finding the whole Clara being pivotal in making the doctor the man he is today a bit irksome. More convinced than ever that's she's off come season end/Christmas;
Time Heist - mediocre, too many ideas compressed together for one episode and not entertaining enough I'm afraid. Maybe a bit too clever for me on first watch, but not inclined to watch again to find out;
The Caretaker - fun episode, bringing Danny closer (or not!)to the doctor. Capaldi was also very funny in this episode.
So, midway through season 8, generally good though the inconsistency in the writing is a massive concern for me, especially re the doctor's characterisation. Capaldi is shaping up nicely though as I'd anticipated, but I can see why he's dividing fans (TP, my wife for one is also losing interest).
I'm still looking forward to this Saturday, so they're doing something right!

The Extra behind the scenes, you can tell Capaldi's having a ball.
"I've been informed that there ARE a couple of QAnon supporters who are fairly regular posters in AJB."
Another fun episode, though I don't give it high marks for originality--it starts out like Alien and ends up like 2010. Oh, and I've got to say this. I literally live across the river from Mexico. They're my friends and neighbors. But a Mexican flag did not make that moon station Mexican--there would have to be at least one crucifix on every wall!

First ep this series that left me scratching my head. Visually beautiful, and great performances by the cast, but the plot didn't make any sense. Shame about the red herring, I thought the story was heading one way, then it did a right face. Oh dear. Plus that final scene - where did that spring from? Very odd.
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?
Watched it this morning, as stated a fun episode but for me, so far the
Weakest episode of the series. I guess with Clara wanting to
Stop having adventures is the build up to her leaving. A pity because
I thought both she and Peter Capaldi had a great on screen rapport. -{
"I've been informed that there ARE a couple of QAnon supporters who are fairly regular posters in AJB."
I admit I quite enjoyed it, albeit found the "moon is really an egg" a poor resolution. For me though, the pay off was the great scene where Clara just lost it with the Doctor. Both actors were superb here and I only hope the makers continue the momentum built up in this scene, rather than as I suspect especially with a different writer next week, it is disregarded...

Apologies for the late post.
Eh Moon is an egg is an egg. Good concept, the actors are as good as always, but the in built reset button? Disappointing. This had all the hallmarks of "put it in here, even if the story is not ready!" feel. I was also disappointed the bacteria spiders were a red herring. I had at first thought they might be a link to the final Pertwee story. Also we learn nothing about the space dragon incubating in the egg. - I mean how are the Clangers going to get their soup now?! Ah well.
Clara's abrupt angry outburst felt a bit tagged on too. Ok she is annoyed and upset, but she has been through worse with the Doctor. (Smith and Cappaldi.) Why now loose the plot? Bit odd.

Its on tonight...with Gemma Arterton...don't forget
And great episode, even if it was a bit mind bending...but yes, quite similar to the Baker era...like that comparison
Crazy smile, which I think is a nod to the Tom Baker shows.
