Having watched the original movie a week ago, I decided to
Rewatch the Remake of The Manchurian Candidate ( 2004).
Despite some outstanding performances, I still feel the original
1964 movie is the better, perhaps because of being shot in B/W
It seems more stark. Also because the 64 film allows the love
Story between Shaw and his girlfriend to grow, his violence to her
and her father is very shocking, whereas in the 04 film, this relationship
Isn't shown, to you are not as emotionally connected to the characters
When the violence happens. Also the ending in the remake, I feel is
    Very drawn out.
Showing how times change and with it who we the public perceive as the
Villains the puppet masters of the 04 film change from the Chinese to a
    Huge American corporation. :D

He had some great films -{ , watched Universal Soldier only the other night
It was on ITV 3 or 4 ? Did laugh at the part to stay cool he had to strip off
In front of an air conditioner, the camera moved up from his feet to his head
Showing off his naked body :)) , gratuitous " bum" shot, as I remembered that
Van Damme was supposed to show his bum in every film ? He was very proud
    Of it. :D

    Fantastic Four (1994)

This has a rather funny History, the Director had no Intention of of releasing this and only made it because he was going to loose the Filming Rights to the Name. He also told every Actor and Actress in the Film that it was going to be Commercially released, when it wasn't.

I just got thru watching Mr. Peabody & Sherman on 3D BluRay.

As a fan of the old cartoons I thought the movie did a good job of bringing the characters into the 21st century. While the movie gets saddled with all of typical "family film" tropes, it was also very faithful to the original material. The old Mr. Peabody & Sherman cartoons always revolved around the heroes taking a trip into the past to help some historical character achieve some significant accomplishment and were full of revisionist history, offbeat historical recreations and deliberately bad puns. The new movie keeps that same tone and if anything I think a lot of the gags are oriented more towards adults than the little kids.

Visually the 3D was really good with outstanding depth and lots of stuff poking out of the screen. The trips into the past take the viewer to all sorts of places like ancient Egypt, Renaissance Italy, the Trojan War and more and each has its own distinctive look. The movie definitely used 3D to its advantage and watching it in 2D would lessen the experience I think.

There is also a Rocky & Bullwinkle 3D short on the disc which is also well done and quite faithful to those old cartoons as well.

Overall a very entertaining film and definitely a keeper, especially if you're a fan of the old cartoons.

Would anyone know if there is a film like this ?

Most horror films now are about possession ! Demons taking over people
But they are usually small in scale, one person in a family setting. My idea
Would be on a much larger scale thousands of people world wide being
Possessed by demons ! Almost Zombie movies scale. :D imagine the
President of the USA during a televised speech, getting the " Black" eyes,
    And demonic voice etc.
If it hasn't been made it should. :))

Dracula (1958) with Peter Cushing, Cristopher Lee and Michael Gough.

Never realised it until now, but much of OHMSS was surely a homage to this film version at least. The movie starts with a bookish fellow travelling in Romania to the Count's castle, but public transport (a horse and carriage) will only take him so far, he has to go the rest on foot. When he checks in, the Count is not there to meet him, but later it is made clear that every attention should be paid to him, to help him with his studies uninterrupted.

It soon becomes clear that the visitor is there under false pretences and is really out to investigate the nefarious doings of the Count, however he is very much on his own in this deserted spot. You don't get Count de Bleauchamp's belles of hells, though you feel it's not for lack of trying.

It seems to me that Fleming was very much doing a take off of the whole thing in OHMSS, but it doesn't play so well in the film because of Savalas' American accent, to fit in with the Dracula vibe you'd need either Pleasance (though he didn't seem exactly sexual) or Gray in his Hammer Devil Rides Out mode.

I do feel OHMSS would have been better with that eerie Hammer horror vibe, instead the whole Piz Gloria thing to be seems a bit cheesy.

I have an old bootlegged VHS copy of that movie that I picked up at a comic book convention I attended with my son. I remember thinking it was terribly cheesy, especially the special effects for Mr. Fantastic (in particular the wave at the end!) But I also recall thinking that The Thing didn't look half bad. I can understand why it was never released commercially, though.

I saw it last night (Mon 20th) started to flick through the 800 odd channels, nothing decent on as per usual :#
then came across this Hammer gem ,Lee Cushing, what more could any body want ,loved it .Just goes to show ,that you can get a very good film on a limited budget, as opposed to these massive over spent rubbish ,by over paid talentless idiots
that seems to be passed off as entertainment these days

My wife and I saw Gone Girl the night before last. Excellent film, most excellent. It was filmed in Cape Girardeau, Missouri; about 75 miles from here...Rosamund Pike is a really good actress...I mean really good. You also need to notice Carrie Coon who plays the twin sister to Ben Affleck's character....she is an outstanding actress and not real well known.
