I watched "The Railway Man" starring Colin Firth, the. other night, I must be honest and say my wife chose the film,
I didn't want to watch it .But having said that ,it now ranks as one of the best films ive ever seen . A true story ,a very human story.One would have to question ones self on how one would react ,in the same situation. Im glad Colins character
took the opposite view to me . Well worth a watch.
Ive just watched "a million ways to die in the wild west"produced/written/directed/starring ,the hugely funny Seth Mcfarlane
of Family guy fame ,so loads of farting,toilet humour, sex jokes (giggity) loved it
Grim subject matter but compelling viewing. Sean Connery plays a police Sergeant who cracks under the pressure while interrogating a suspected child sex attacker (played by Ian Bannen) and beats him to death. The major theme is that an honourable and upright policeman is worn down mentally (during his twenty years of service) by the horrors of his job to the point where he is own mind is very little different to that of the criminal mind.
Arguably, Connery's best ever performance, convincing emotional range from anger to remorse. Excellent support from Bannen, Vivien Merchant and Trevor Howard.

I remember watching it years ago as a kid, and was amazed at it -{
Some very strong performances. I think it was one of the films Connery
Got to make for doing DAF.

Having praised Caine's superb performance in The Ipcress File, I caught Zulu the other day and have to say he stunk up the screen. He looks posh alight, like Trevor Howard as Ashley Wilkes, all strawberry blond and inffectual, but the accent just isn't quite right no matter how you dice it.
John Barry does the score, it has a touch of FRWL about it, just as Ipcress has a touch of TB at Shrublands in its vibe.
Into the Woods (my 83-year-old Dad's choice, not mine). Entertaining enough and it fits into this modern reworking of fairy tales--giving them sexual innuendo and dark endings--but Stephen Sondheim scores are not to everyone's taste, and I couldn't help but feel this all probably works better on a stage.
I'm one of those who didn't know who Jennifer Lawrence is until the celeb photo hack a few months ago. A colleague was over the moon seeing images of her in birthday suit and I was like "big deal", he then told me she is one of the top two actress in hollywood. I don't remember her being top of anything Maybe for someone, usually a nerd under 30 might have heard of her. I then watched Hunger Game and still I don't get why she is so popular. Nice body but she must have one of the blandest face ever and quite possibly one of the most overrated actress in recent years. I watched the horror film with her in it last night call "House at the End of the Street" beside being a bad film I honestly cannot tell the difference in her facial expression if she is happy, sad, angry or frighten, it is as if she is wearing the same mask. The only reason I would watch her again is if she remain unclothed so I can avoid looking at her Miss Piggy face )
Cpt America, The winter Soldier.
Epic, superhero stuff, great story and great cast. Some of the action
Sequences are simply stunning. -{
I totally agree - great movie! -{ It's my second favorite superhero movie after Marvel's The Avengers. (Guardians of the Galaxy is sneaking up, though.)
Good to see 63 yo Neeson kicking some arses however we have been missing a location in a different country.
And Neeson saving some life is a better concept (Taken and Taken II) than him going Rouge and playing detective (Taken3)
President of the 'Misty Eyes Club'.
Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!

If you want to see Jennifer Lawrence demonstrate her acting skills, I would suggest you check her out in Winter's Bone, Silver Linings Playbook or American Hustle. I think she's quite good in those films.
Its not a film but I've been Binge Watching the 90's sitcom the Nanny.
Its actually pretty addictive.
NPR ran a segment about how Fran was receiving so many death threats that they had planned on doing away with filming with a live audience. Instead they decided to cast extras to play an audience. Apparently they cast people based on if they had a unique laughter. I would recommend a listen. The segment has some interesting information on the science of laughter: http://www.radiolab.org/story/91588-laughter/
I saw "The Fourth Protocol" on DVD a few days ago. In my opinion it's a solid cold war thriller. Pierce Brosnan is an effective in a rare villan part. After seeing this film I started wondering how Brosnan would have handle grittier, more serious Bond movies.

Caught The IPCRESS file on BBC 2 this afternoon, still a great film
With a fantastic cast. In a recent All Murray show on British spy
Movies Stella Rimington said when she joined the service in the
Late sixties. The offices looked just like those in the Harry Palmer
Films, thread bare carpets, no heating and paint peeling off the walls.
Far removed from the world of James Bond. )

Haywire, for a third time. What a great film. Soderbergh gave us a great spy film with a female version of Bond. I can't rate this film highly enough. -{

One of my favourite films , there is a bit near the end where Preston (Caine) and his fellow secret service agents alight from a battered out old van , very similar to the underground car park scene in the IPCRESS file ,did Caine have feelings of de jar vu
Great movie, and it's a shame it didn't get more recognition. Some great acting (from Craig natch) - and it's one of Felicity Jones first movies, who is now tipped for a BAFTA.
If anyone hasn't seen it... it's worth a look.

Oddly I'm finding it hard to watch many films, I'm desperate to see
The wolf of wall street, but, I can't find a long enough time. That my
Teenage daughters aren't about. Simply because I'd be embarrassed
By all the naked flesh in some scenes.

Was expecting basically a remake of The Fugitive, as they look
Very similar ?
