I recently saw Hidden, a French film. I can't say too much other than I think it's terrific and one should only see it if one has a tolerance for thrillers.

Watched The Spy Who Loved Me last night. Had a really great time watching it, been a while since I saw it too. Definitely one of Moore's finest hours and the Bond series too.
I finally saw Pirates of the Caribbean on TV two nights ago. I hadn't seen it at the cinemas and with the sequel already out, I had wanted to catch the original as soon as possible. I enjoyed it, I didn't love it as I thought it was a bit overlong, but I did like it and I'm sure that I'll enjoy the sequel.

Superman Returns
Saw this movie earlier today. I was very impressed. A little annoyed by the kid in it, but I looked past it. I thought it would be more story based, but it had a decent amount of action to. The story was easy to follow. I give it a 4.5 stars out of 5 stars.
Kevin Spacey is an awesome Lex Luthor.

I recently saw Sam Peckinpah's 'Cross of Iron'.
I approached it not knowing what to expect, other than a lot of gore and sexual violence. When watching it, the film seemed far more tame than what I was led to believe from reviews.
It was still bloody, and the sexual violence I mentioned took place off camera. The language wasn't very foul, and there wasn't much close up of blood at all. I suppose in the 70s it was shocking, but today it has sort of lost some of its sting.
That said, it was a well crafted, and still disturbing portrait of the life on the losing side of the Eastern Front in world war II. James Coburn is surprisingly good as a German(!) sergeant. James Mason, the 'Desert Fox' himself once again impresses as a German colonel. One of the most inspired performances is that of his adjutant Captain Kiesel.
The film was rather good, and I actually finished it thinking that an '18' certificate is quite harsh. I think '15' would be more appropriate when compared to other films which have a '15'. Black Hawk Down etc.
I strongly reccomend it to anyone who likes war films.

Eh, it was pretty good, not great. I wasn't a big fan of the action scenes though, and I could've done without Cameron Diaz trying to act like a red-haired Irish chick. Leo was just okay, not too good or bad. Without a brilliant and intimidating performance by Daniel Day Lewis this movie would be awful.
Hmm, you get your money's worth I suppose. It was a bit like an interminable fairground ride, and like Mr Bennett in Pride & Prejudice (which Keira Knightley also starred in), I did feel like saying "Come come, you have entertained us long enough..."
I couldn't hear the dialogue for much of it. Well, I could make it out, like listening to the wise words of a much-loved dying relative, but it was a strain. Same problem existed with the first film, but at least you were rewarded with some gems there. The intrusive music was incessant and distracting, too. Shame, two pirate flicks but not one decent sea shanty, let alone soarwaway stuff like from The Onedin Line, to be heard.
The main problem with this film is that which was best about the first outing: Cpt Jack Sparrow. In the first film he pretty much stole the show (well, he was a pirate, he would), but here he is the show, and Depp's performance is revealed to be the pantomime turn it really is, all hamming and mincing and prancing around like a loon. The lookalike who visited our office this week did it about as well.
I must admit that in the first film I took his schtick to be way of misleading the prissy Englishmen, who were easily led into feeling superior. I thought when he got his ship back he'll settle down a bit, show a few more layers, but no. I did miss the confrontational banter of Sparrow and his foes, also, be it with Jack Davenport, Geoffrey Rush, Keira, Orlando Bloom, Jonathan Pryce and so on. Sparrow doesn't really banter with anyone here. And he doesn't seem so smart in his looining either, he just faffs about and accidentally gets himself out of scrapes.
Not a great movie, though there was plenty of colour and brightness missing from the first one.
Trailor for Casino Royale, with Craig looking more pug ugly than ever. His nose looks massive on the big screen, Clive Owen eat your heart out.

The X-Men films are not my favorite super heroes (I prefer Batman, Spiderman and Superman) but I do find the X-Men films to be entertaining, if a little forgettable; and X-Men 3 was no exception. I liked it, I will see number 4 (should there be another) but, unlike Batman Begins or the Spiderman films, it wasn't of a level where I would be raving about it.

I bought the DVD a couple of weeks ago. The overall plot is a little flimsy but Brosnan and Kinnear definitely click. They would have made a good Bond and Leiter combo I think.
Saw Firewall tonight, first thing I noticed is that Harrison Ford is looking a little old. The movie itself was alright, worth a DVD rental, but some obvious plot holes weaken it and the ending is typical of many a thriller. An uneven viewing that could have been better with a rewrite or two.

I've been enjoying rewatching it as well. It isn't so much a plot based film as a character piece with some thrills and some great twisted humor that comes from character. At it's core it has an exceptional performance by Pierce but the acting and casting is top notch all the way around with special kudos for Hope Davis who does so much with rather little.
The DVD is also nicely loaded with commentaries, especially the cast one (very funny) and the deleted scenes which are pretty high quality.
One of the things I enjoyed most about the film is it's look. It was a conscious decision to make the film visually interesting since it's so dialogue intensive with very little action. Shepard goes into detail on how he, Tatersall, the production designer and the costumer all collaberated for a specific look in every scene. They even painted and distressed a mural just to match Julian's clothes at the bullring. The attention to detail in color and compostion is rare now for a non comic based film, not to mention a film with a $10-12m budget. And it's just so well done. Visually the film is gorgeous and Tatersall does some great things with his camera, big and small.
Haha I love Fletch, mostly due to the great cheesy 80's theme and all of the one-liners. One that always slays me for some reason is when the lawyer threatens to garnish Fletch's wages, and his reply is how he doesn't like his wages all garnishy, or something to that effect. It's dumb but I love it.
Fletch is great movie Chevy Chase can make any movie funny like Funny Farm. I just watched The Libertine with Johnny Depp it was a very interesting movie about John Wilmot, it moved a tad slow at some points but overall a good movie and something different than all the other garbage coming out lately.
National Treasure with Nicholas Cage and Sean Bean. Normally I hate Jerry Bruckheimer epics and I've never been a fan of Cage but this was a very entertaining adventure. Cage is very likable and Bean is suitably sleazy. A very witty and clever plot and a great supporting cast. I just may buy this one on DVD.
