Bond's watch

From my viewing of the Bond films, it seems fairly evident that James Bond always wears the same type of watch.

Can anyone tell me what sort of watch he wears (Rolex, Seiko, etc)? They really do look like nice watches, whatever film it is.

I'm fairly confident it's Rolex, like 99.999% sure!

They are nice watches yes, especially all the gadgets they come with! Yes it's definately Rolex he wears.

Fleming was specific about Bond's Rolex, but the law of product placement has taken over in the films.

Bond wears a Rolex in most of the filmes, except for the middle and late Roger-era, where they used Seiko. Brosnan wears Omega.

Product placement always, but I actually like the Omega better than the Submariner. Omega is a lesser-known brand. Rolex, to me, is only associated with rap videos and knockoffs now.

Brosnan wears the Omega Seamaster watch. They're very expensive. I wanted to buy one for when I dress up, but $2500 is a little bit much.
Some people would complain even if you hang them with a new rope

Connery, Dalton & Lazenby all wore Rolex. Moore's Bond went digital after LALD and donned a Seiko(sort of depreciated it for me being a watch lover). I just thought that Bond should wear a timepiece worthy of his tier.

I own the Omega Seamaster & Geneve automatics and I love them. Omega is truly underrated to Rolex.

Honestly, I am in no way affiliated to them, but I have found an excellent website that sells all major good quality brands of watch at prices which are more realistic to an someone on an 'ordinary wage' like myself. I can't remember the exact address but they are called AA Time - if you type aatime watches into a search engine you should find it. The finance offers are particularly interesting looking - you can get the Omega Seamaster for £24 per month for 36 months (I plan to get one for my 30th birthday).

Hope this helps - I am a big Seamaster fan!

Anyone know which model of Seamaster? There are quite a few.

    Thanks for the replies.

I know that a watch seems trivial, but those Bond watches are so cool. To me, those digital watches seem crude and basic (despite the fact that their underlying technology is probably more complex).

Bond's analog watches always had a style and grace, and were very elegant.

One earlier poster mentioned the Submariner watch. Did Bond ever wear a Submariner? That is indeed a nice watch.

Also, can anyone tell me what watch Bond wore in 'Goldeneye'?

Regarding product placement, I think that large sums of money can influence these things. I couldn't help but notice the brand of Bond's phone in TND. There were several close ups of the phone and brand name.

Referring to the cinema Bond, as opposed to the literary Fleming Bond, I opine that Bond does not select the appropriate type of watch for various endeavors. For tuxedo wear, Omega, Rolex, or any other bulky type watch is inappropriate. For formal attire only thin watches should be worn, like Patek Phillip.

The line of watches that the cinema Bond uses are more for the casual sports dress look.

For athletic and extreme outdoor endeavors that require the use of a watch, throw-away watches like Casio and Timex are better employed.

All the above, just my own opinions and watch wearing habits.

Thanks heaps! Those photos and websites are awesome.

I shall have to buy one of those watches when I win the lottery, lol.

    Thanks again.

In GOLDENEYE, 007 wore the Omega Seamster Professional, not the Professional Chronometer. In TND, TWINE, and DAD, he wears the Chronometer. I personally wear the Omega Seamaster Professional, and it is quite a nice watch. I originally liked it over the much more expensive Rolex, although it has grown on me, and I hope to eventually own one of those, too.

So should he move back to the Rolex, stick with the Omega or try something new?

I don't think it'll really make much of a difference from my standpoint...as long as they stick with high end analogs and not revert back to hacky digitals. I'd like to see Bond sport a Longines or a Chaumet. Hamilton would be a good choice but may be considered too American of a brand for a Brit agent. :)

Okay, now knowing that it's Craig currently in the driver's seat, let him sport a Rolex...he needs all the beautifying he can get and cutting corners won't help him cosmetically...

The Omega is just as beautiful, in my opinion. Not as expensive, but still just as beautiful. I've seen my omega next to the Submariner, and they are both beautiful watches.

That having been said, I probably WOULD prefer going back to the Rolex, just because he has a Rolex in the books, and we haven't had the Rolex in awhile.

Connery wore a Submariner that was either a 6200, a 6538, 6538A or a 5510. Many feel it was the 6538 exclusively that Connery wore. These watches are the thick cased so called James Bond Submariners that have the big Brevet crown, coin edge bezel and no shoulders. Connery never wore th thin cased so called James Bond Submariners with the small crown.

George Lazenby wore a Submariner 5513 as well as a Rolex chronograph 6238 when he posed as the Sable Basilisk.

Roger Moore wore a Submariner 5513 in LALD and TMWTGG and then began sporting Seikos. In the beginning of LALD Moore wears a Pulsar that is replaced by the 5513 Submariner.

Timothy Dalton appears to have worn a Submariner 16800 or a 168000 in TLD and LTK.

Brosnan wore the quartz version of the Omega Seamaster in Goldeneye. In all subsequent movies Brosnan wore the automatic version.

Personally, I think Bond should return to the Rolex, even though I own and like the automatic Seamaster. The books say Rolex, so Rolex it should be as far as I'm concerned.

i have asked this before but donald you seem a knowledgable fella but what watch is bond wearing in the lald boat chase as it is certainly not the submariner?or is it just a continuity gaffe?
  • Bill TannerBill Tanner "Spending the money quickly" iPosts: 261MI6 Agent
I've never noticed a switch, but it would have to be a gaffe: Bond uses his magnetic Submariner just before he jumps into the boat.

Forgot to mention that Connery also wore a Breitling Top Time with a custom case in Thunderball. It doubled as a geiger counter. It has to be custom because Breitling never made a Top Time with that style case.

I think it's a continuity gaffe as well, but why don't you post a picture of it. Maybe we can figure it out.

I wouldn't like Craig wearing a Seamaster, personally think he has no class to wear whether a Seamaster or a Submariner.
I've read that Omega has three more films in the belt including CR.
It's also a shame that PB ends his Omega ambassador role at the end of this year, maybe Omega CEOs think it'll cause any kind of confusion with Brosnan and Bond images.
I own a Seamaster, but I bought it because it was sported by Brosnan. It's going to be strange seeing Craig wearing it, I don't want to see.

Hi everyone and happy holidays. Omega has already stated that they will continue their association with James Bond's Casino Royale but they're being secretive as to which Omega model it will be. Brosnan's affiliation as Omega Ambassador ends on December 31, 2005.

As Omega are sticking with CR I wouldn't be surprised to see Craig wearing something like the recent Planet Ocean, 42mm version.

3-omegaplanetocean.pngQuite nice on a strap as well. Personally, I would prefer a return to Rolex, ideally with a Sea Dweller but if we have to stick with Omega, at Planet Ocean is cool

Hello 00Goldeneye, the watches used by Moore in Octopussy are not Casio but Seiko namely the Seiko Tv watch and the Seiko G757 horseshoe style, that's the one with the tracking capabilities. Happy holidays!

Update: the model number for the tracking Seiko watch is G757-5020 just for completeness sake:)
