I found this on the Mi6 website. Wondered if it might interest anyone.

Clive Owen tops IMDB poll for next James Bond

Clive Owen has topped a recent IMDB poll to determine who should play the next James Bond.

The English actor, who recently won Golden Globe and BAFTA awards for his role in "Closer", even beat Pierce Brosnan as the choice for 007 in the next movie - "Casino Royale" - due out in 2006.

Clive Owen (31.9%)
Pierce Brosnan (24.6%)
Hugh Jackman (9.2%)
Ewan McGregor (5.4%)
Jude Law (4.9%)
Ioan Gruffudd (3.5%)
Eric Bana (3.2%)
Ralph Fiennes (2.7%)
Dougray Scott (2.4%)
Colin Farrell (2.3%)
Robbie Williams (2.2%)
Colin Firth (2.0%)
George Clooney (1.9%)
Orlando Bloom (1.3%)
Hugh Grant (1.0%)
Russell Crowe (0.8%)
Matt Damon (0.6%)

Does anyone think this DEFINITELY proves Clive Owen will play Bond? Or could the polls all of a sudden make a drastic change? Or maybe someone else will come in with a chance?

What d'you think?

    OK, I'll give a quick reply :)

What the poll means, is that a lot of people thinks Clive Owen would be a GREAT Bond. And That's it. It won't change Eons decision.

But don't you think that the publics thoughts would influence EON?

From what I've seen, not really. And they only check out sites when there a chance to close them down... :))

    I don't think so, no.
I do think, if Owen is already signed, Michael and Babs will probably be happy that the public agrees with their choice :)

Most of them do. There's still a few who don't...

I know my mate's (licenced to kill) dad does. I went round to his house and when we were eating lunch and my mate asked me who the next Bond would be, his dad just shouted "CLIVE OWEN!"

OK, here's the deal--if this discussion turns into whether or not Clive Owen should be Bond, then this topic will indeed be closed, because that subject is being discussed elsewhere. However, if the subject stays on the results of the poll--i.e., what the hell is Robbie Williams doing there?!?--then I see no reason why it shouldn't stay open.

Who are these people who keep voting for Ewan McGregor?! The either haven't actually seen McGregor or they haven't actually seen a James Bond film.

Okay than... As for the poll, it doesn't prove anything definately, only an EON announcement will do that. But it's nice to see Pierce at a second place. Okay, I'll stop with the evil comments (for today).

As for the whole candidate list, it only shows that imdb is full of people who think James Bond is a man in a tuxedo.

This one poll can't be extrapolated to the public as a whole. In the USA it's still Clive Who? It's nice for Clive BUT not nearly definitive. It's more a poll of Bond hardcores who were motivated to vote NOT the general joe blow public who makes up most of the box office for a Bond movie.

It's an IMDb poll, Seannery - the voters are more likely to be hardcore film buffs, rather than a gaggle of Bondies.

I know the feeling... It's like Hungary's Pierce Who? And as Atticus says, it's imdb! That site has a board about where does Roger Moore appear in You Only Live Twice?

Good point though it could still be skewed by Bond fans among them who were more compelled to vote and even so hardcore film buffs also can't be extrapolated to the general public--they are a small minority who know Clive as opposed to the many outside the UK who say Clive who?--and they(the general public) make up the vast majority of Bond box office.

Or maybe they feel that Ewan mcGregor is a Scottish Roger Moore. If they want a return to the comical James Bond then why not pick him?

I disagree that it's Clive Who? in the USA! I live in the hinterlands of the USA and I've heard plenty about him. And I also know several others who not only know who he is, but also think he'd make a kick-ass Bond.

Because he would be awful, thats why!! The only thing McGregor has going for him in Bond terms is a big profile.I suspect thats why he keeps getting voted for as he is one of the names people recognise.

And as for George Clooney ...I like him but why is he even in this poll??

I am not reading too much into this poll.Nobody I know has even heard of IMDB let alone vote in one of their polls,so I agree in that it is going to be film buffs voting and not a huge indicator of who the public want.People think that Owen would be great as Bond because they read it in the papers.I would gather a lot of people haven't seen him in much at all.

I have to admit, before I came to ajb - which wasn't that long ago - I had never heard of Clive Owen.
If Bond hadn't existed - heaven forbid - I probably wouldn't of heard of Pierce Brosnan, Roger Moore and the rest!
I'd seen Pierce in Mrs Doubtfire, but when your 5 - shocking as that's rated 12 in the UK - you don't really take much attention to detail.
I got this magazine with the Sunday Express

    Please don't close Hardyboy!
I got this magazine with the Sunday Express in 2002, to celebrate '40 years of bikini clad Bond girls' it said on the cover. It also had this voting thing in it. You phone up and could vote for who you wanted the next James Bond to be.
Among those back then was Robbie Williams!
How on Earth did he get in! How did he get in the poll! What kind of nutters voted for him! He's a singer - not an actor! Someone tell these guys something and get him out of this poll!

I personnaly think George Clooney would be the perfect James Bond. He is american, but when Julian Mc Mahon (FBI agent John Grant in "Profiler") was considered, who knew he was not american but australian.
An australian could be credible as a FBI agent and Clooney not as a 007?

Clooney wouldn't be awful as Bond, but he wouldn't be good either. I'll say no more because of Hardyboy...

I think if they cast a wrong actor, it will be the end of the bond serie.
Or we will have to wait years to get a new one.

I definitely agree. I would find it hard to sit down and watch a film!

Why are you on my case, FelixLeiter007? I said that so long as this stayed on the topic of the poll, it's safe; and from what I can see, no one--not even you--has strayed from it. Sheesh: do I send that much fear through you?

I want Julian McMahon to be the next james bond. To be honest, he would do it more better dan Clive Owen and he is better looking. But that's my opinion.
