Personally I would like the next 007 to be British. I just can't see an American actor in the role. I feel that James Bond should remain faithful to Ian Fleming's character. I wouldn't mind Clive Owen taking the role, but one thing stumps me with this. It is well known that they want to take Bond back to basics and back to the beggining, the early years... but, is Clive Owen a little old to play Bond in Casino Royale? When reading Casino Royale, I always pictured Bond being rather young (early thirtys), and a novice, so can't quite see Clive Owen as quite the right Bond for Casino Royale due to his advanced years.

I got it for Christmas and imagined Connery. Probably because he did the earlier movies.

IMO, Owen looks just like Connery did in Dr.No. Actually Connery always did look older than his real age (31 in Dr.No), so IMO Owen is just the right age for the part. He just turned 40.
Hmm. To me, Owen looks pretty much as old as Connery did in DAF (Which he is) and waaaaaaaaaaaay older than Connery in Dr. No.
And compared to Moore and Brosnan...

i think he looks terrific in that picture. if I had any doubt that he looks like Bond, now it has gone.Do you really think he looks as Connery did at forty? Connery had grey hair, belly, wrinkles everywhere, no longer shaved his eyebrows...Owen appears to be in great shape.
Hmmm, not convinced. I still don't think he looks any younger than his age - at the very least! Not as vibrant, either, as Moore in LALD or Brosnan in GE. Maybe it's a world-weary look to him I see, I dunno, but I wouldn't peg him below 40. Some disagree, obviously, but if he and '71 Sean stood next to one another, I wouldn't see Clive as a more youthful man by any considerable margin. That's not a bad pic of him compared to others, but I'm afraid it hasn't changed my mind

Well, it's not exactly a side-by-side comparison, but here's Sean Connery in The Anderson Tapes, made when he was 40 and released in 1971:
In my never-so-humble opinion, I think Clive Owen looks a tad younger. . .
Even I have to conceed he looks younger than Connery at 40.Though I will agree with royalmile that Owen looks his age.The picture above is a particularly good one.Connery always looked older but seeemed to stop ageing at about 50 and sort of stayed there.

Let´s put it this way, Clive would pass for an oldish looking 30-something, Sean would pass for youngish looking 50-something.Don´t forget Connery tried to put down the Bond image consciously (and he did a good job); Owen is doing exactly the opposite.

I second that, Lady Rose--in fact, I'd say that Connery made a better-looking 70-year-old than he did a 40-year-old. Really, you have to wonder if the 1960s didn't wreak havoc on Connery's health: between Dr. No and Diamonds Are Forever he didn't just lose more hair and gain weight, he went gray and his face turned jowly. Goes to show what happens if you live the Bond lifestyle, I guess. Anyway and back on topic, maybe Clive Owen will look like a cadaver once he reaches 70!
Don't know if Mr. Owen would make a good bond, but I can't wait to see him in 'Sin City'! Of course, he uses an American accent in that film, but it should show off his action chops.

Let's just hope we don't have to wait that long for him to be in a Bond film.
I'm with you on that...:)

I still don't think Clive Owen is a good choice for bond! Just don't have the bond look! The only reason he beat Pierce on the poles is that everyone knows that Pierce has been fired and is not coming back!If there was the least little chance he would come back he would have won any pole! My choices for bond are!
1)Hugh Jackman
2)James Purefoy
3)Gerry Butler
All have the action chops and the look in my veiw!
Any of those 3 would be far preferable to CO in my humble opinion...
I just wish we could hear some GOOD news about CR soon.
I only want to see a great Bond in a great adaptation of this great novel. All the snippets I've heard so far really take away my confidence in THAT happening...

Well, everything that I hear from P&W seems to suggest that Bond will have to be quite different from PB. With the low tolerence for Pierce-lite from the writers, I think we should be looking towards those with more in the way of physicality ... Owen just about makes the cut, but Butler, Jackman and Purefoy also make it.
... not that the writers make any decisions though.
I think that owen just doesn't have the look for bond! Maybe he could play the heavy though!Hell! i think Jude Law would be better than clive but he is too young,i think!
One more thing about Clive Owen i don't like for bond is that the man seems to be very dry!No since of humor! for Bond you have to be very cool while saying the one liners! I see his bond alot like Tim Dalton's bond !I think Hugh Jackman could pull off a very good bond on all levels! Not to mention he is great at action and in very, very good shape. Also he is the perfect age at 36!

If you think that, then I think you had better take into consideration, that there a lot of people who prefered the way Timothy Dalton played Bond.
I don't know but maybe that was the people down at Eon included!
Hmmm...
Let's bear in mind that there were at least as many who really disliked Dalton as Bond; many who stayed away from the movie theatres then and many who still see him as a "lesser" Bond and don't watch his movies.
In addition, after a full 7 movies with Moore, I think everyone knew a change was due. People are less forgiving of errors in judgement when there is a far superior choice who was ousted before his time.
If DAD was Brosnan's "Moonraker" and he HASN'T been given a chance to make his FYEO, there could be far more Gen. Pub. resentment now than there was then.
Plus, at least Dalton had a few more things in his favour, not least a more appropriate voice.

I'm with Martin Mystery on this one.
Actually,he doesn't look too bad in that pic.
