Connery's Bond never really seemed like he would get his hands dirty
Please allow me to offer my welcome to you, VM! -{ I'm sure you will find this group to be a fun and informative bunch, although from time to time some of us can be a bit prickly! )
And speaking of "prickly", Connery is my Number 1 Bond and I can't recall anyone expressing that view of him before. I don't agree, but it's an interesting comment. -{
I think Connery is like an old school boxer or wrestler circa 1900. He might take some swipes at you, roll around, maybe even swiftly bludgeon someones head with a candle stick or a Fabergé egg, but I have a really hard time imagine him brutally killing. The two most "hardcore" Bonds thus far have been Lazenby and DC. Both men look like they would happily shiv you with a blunt instrument and then go out for sushi. I am not sure if I am getting any converts with this philosophy.
Thank you for the welcome. Thankfully I can take prickly.

...And that's not Bond. If you've read the books, Bond hated to kill, he was just very good at it. He wouldn't 'happily' kill most anybody, and surely follow it with a drink, not a meal.

I'm sure you can handle our "prickly", because around here it's usually accompanied by a dash of "cuddly"! )
By the way, how do you feel about Connery's tussles with Grant in FRWL and Franks in DAF? Not hands-on enough for you?
I did like that in those particular scenes it feels much less staged, more manic. Particularity on the train you really get the feeling he is fighting for his life. I find that grit impressive. It makes it feel less like a movie and more as if you stumbled upon something you should not be seeing. That is why I enjoy Lazenby's "fighting."
And as far as "happily" that was a poor choice of words. More, they will do what needs to be done with as much impact as possible. Maybe I think this because I prefer the more manic style of fighting used by GL and DC. That being said I do not think Bond enjoys killing by any stretch of the imagination. As far as the book vs movie I like to take them separately. They have become two different beasts
Connery with the Navy and being a bouncer
could fight very well and I think it shows in
the films. Much as I think Dalton was great,
I never thought he could throw a good punch
in a fight sequence.
"I've been informed that there ARE a couple of QAnon supporters who are fairly regular posters in AJB."
IMO, Bond is a metaphor for any hard working bloke that's dedicated to doing a good, no, GREAT job at what he does, and being underpaid & sometimes under appreciated, occasionally losing faith in the system, yet working to support it in the hopes that the ultimate good will be served.
I'll freely admit that I'd like to rank films like TB and LTK higher as they are clearly a better representation of Bond than MR but its about enjoyment and I just dont get as much pleasure slogging my way through TB's tedium as I do watching Roger at the peak of his powers doing this in that outfit:

I have a bottom five, with AVTAK being at the very bottom, but I still watch them all. After all, they're Bond films!

He is secretly Kevin McClory.
Proof: He also has 2 Connery films on his top 5 and 4 Moore films on his bottom 5.

Hi, and welcome to AJB! Please introduce yourself here: http://www.ajb007.co.uk/topic/34154/welcome-comings-goings/page/42/
I had to delete the image you posted, for copyright reasons
Fair enough. Forums like this really should be based in China where they have no concept of copyright. I've amended it to a link. Is that OK?
I should hope my reputation precedes me so no introduction necessary.
