"You don’t make art out of good intentions." - Gustave Flaubert;
joq, interesting to see that you're clearly not a Dalton fan.
What do you dislike, if anything, about his portrayal of 007?
I also find interesting that you love TND and TWINE, but are a bit less crazy for GE, why is that?

Since I generally lean more towards the campier and/or more action-heavy Bond films (as my ranking should give away), it was easy for me to like SP, as it brought the action and the humor.

Jarvio, I guess DAD is for you what QoS is for me (to some degree).
Even though I'm not a huge Craig fan, I don't hate the most unpopular Craig Bond film (in fact, I quite like it).
I guess your feelings towards DAD are somewhat comparable.
I also find interesting that you love Craig as Bond, but are not too crazy about CR.

Maybe. With DAD, I think that technically it is the worst film in the series, and by quite some distance too. But.. it is never boring. And it is very memorable. And as a result, I enjoy it more than my bottom 4, which bore me more. Having said that though, DAD is still in my bottom 5 and so is still a low ranker for me.
And Daniel Craig and CR, you are correct, I am a big fan of DC's bond, and in CR that is no exception. But, the actual film CR... I dunno... it just does nothing for me. Aside from DC's performance, the only other thing I really like in CR is the torture scene, and to a lesser extent the poison scene. But the rest of the film just bored me. Having said that though, even my lowest ranked bond film is still enjoyed by me to some extent.
As I am going through the marathon I am really looking forward to getting to DAD, probably because I've avoided it - but it's true - it's never boring - it's just 80% of the time cringeworthy.
If you can forget that and just have some popcorn on the ready, you're in for a good time.
am747, I will say that for an old-school Bond fan, it is impressive that you love SP enough to place it at #10.
Then again, that movie does have its throwbacks.

I rate the 60s films very highly so all of them are in the top 10 .... Like most Bond films, SP has weaknesses but overall I found it a nicely sorted out and visually striking film incorporating some of the classic Bond elements
Most of the things have been done in Bond films so recent releases tend to have a shorter shelf life at the top on my ranking ..... Before SP, my favorite post Dalton film was SF. Before SF it was CR, and before CR, it was GE .... However SP is a good example of how a film can make use of the classic Bond elements and present it in a visually striking manner. For e.g. the torture scene was similar to one in CR where Bond is made to sit on a chair. But the one in SP had a little dose of the classic Bond elements. It is a welcome addition to Top 10 (and my top 18 are close)

1) Connery/Craig - a tie, although they do trade places at the top depending on my mood...I agree with a critic(!!!) who recently said that the only reason Craig isn't the best is because he wasn't the first B-) Connery originated; Craig re-originated for a new century. Coincidentally, the three actors in my 1 and 2 slots are the best actors of the lot, IMO.

Intetesting to see TLD and OP as the top 2. They both hv the indiana jones type of feel to it with parts shot in Afganistan and Ind respectively, lots of action and stunts, former USSR theme, and nice score
PS Then you hv FRWL in top 5. GE and FYEO involves USSR as well. Based on the above - TSWLM could hv been in the top 5-6 too which has a Soviet agent collobrating with 007 and Egyptian locations
Bring CR and OHMSS down and move up TSWLM, FYEO and GE , and you would hv top 6 with some kind of Soviet theme . .... Btw, YOTL has minor references to USSR as well

TSWLM is great but not sold on the Bond girl and villain, plus it's too similar to YOLT and MR.
No, but he has directed my overall favourite decade.
When people say Connery IS Bond, they really mean Young's influence in DN and FRWL.
I also love what Campbell did with GE and CR. He's held my interest through the terrible Serra score. And made what should be a boring poker game tense and interesting even if you exclude the scenes in between
80s films seem to have been influenced by Indiana Jones too - OP (IND sequences), TLD (AFG sequences), and LTK (Truck sequence).
