Thank you for that, asio. I found it quite interesting and I remembered things about some Bond films that I had not watched for quite a while. :)
Perhaps one of the mods could put this on a note so that it doesn't ever disappear off the page. And it could be changed to James Bond Villian Endings?
    Again, it was wonderful. :)

When I was writing it all down, what at I found interesting was the humber of times Bond DIDN'T kill the villain, and left it to someone else to do (a Bond Girl or an ally).
I also found it interesting that Bond's world famous Walther PPK has only been used to kill two main villains. The rest of the time they've either escaped or died by some other means.
Also, I hope to add to this list as the years progress. :)

I am curious about the connection between endings to Bond films and water. Out of the 20 movies, Bond ends up either on or in water (ranging from boats, showers and even swimming pools) on 12 occasions.

Even on some of the other occasions, such as in GF, OHMSS, TWINCE and DAD Bond is on a coast somewhere near some water.

Is there some relevance to this? Does the water represent something? This is something I doubt as the circumstances vary a lot. Apart from the water connection, I don't see what say being on a Gondola with Tatania has in common with a steamy shower session with Stacey Sutton.

Could the fact that in water, one is slower and therefore more vunerable? The fact that Bond will place himself in the water this time represents an elimination of the danger he was in.

When did Bond shoot Kananga in the ending? I know he used the shark bullet, but he didn't shoot him.
  • asioasio Melbourne, AustraliaPosts: 546MI6 Agent
    Quoting Nightshooter:
When did Bond shoot Kananga in the ending?
You're correct, Bond did not shoot Dr. Kananga, but forced the shark bullet into his mouth instead. That's why I listed his death as "blown up by a shark bullet" rather than "shot by a shark bullet". :)

Thanks kerby4u, I have now included NSNA, as well as the 2 Casino Royale's, and the upcoming film too.
However, it's been a while since I saw these films, so if my descriptions are inaccurate, please feel free to call me up on it so I can make the necessary adjustments.

NSNA: Domino kills Largo, just like in TB, with a harpoon. The movie ends with Rowan Atkinson as the British rep, in the swimming pool after Bond throws him in, begging 007 to return to MI-6, who says he's retired and winks at the camera.

I believe the title had a double meaning in that Connery had once promised after DAF that he would never play Bond again, and 007, whoever plays him, will never really retire.

In my opinion, Electra King could be considered a main villain, and Bond kills her with his PPK. Also, I would just like to say that I love the end of TSWLM when Bond shoots Stromberg 4 times!(like you said), and it is nice to see a villain die the old fashioned way in that great scene.
  • asioasio Melbourne, AustraliaPosts: 546MI6 Agent
Acerimmer, I have made the changes to the NSNA section, thanks.
Slazenger7, I had considered listing Elektra King as the villain for TWINE, but since Renard was the main villain throughout the entire film (as well as the last one to die), I put him in instead. Plus, I agree with you about Stromberg's death in TSWLM.
    Thanks for your help guys!

I haven't read the whole list. As for the small part I did read, awesome. But may I make a suggestion of putting a Spoiler tag on it. The tag being for people who don't know the endings to some of the films.
Some people would complain even if you hang them with a new rope

I learned while doing a degree in film studies that, psycho-analyticaly speaking, water is representative of sexual desire. Namely the size of the body of water denotes the size of the subjects sexual desire. The fact that Bond ends up in the sea so many times speaks for itself! ;)

I don't know if I buy that particular theory. I mean, if Bond ends up in a bathtub, does that mean that he has no sexual desire? ;) Personally, I think that film studies courses have a habbit of reading too much into things. Perhaps many of the endings involve water due to the aesthetic look of water. Nonetheless, if one did believe that it had symbolic significance, then another possible explanation is that water may also represent purity. Maybe Bond is attempting to purify himself after having done some less than pure things. ;)

And when they start not smiling back—that’s an earthquake. and then you get yourself a couple of spots on your hat, and you’re finished. Nobody dast blame this man. A salesman is got to dream, boy. It comes with the territory." Death of a Salesman

I agree that it probably is just an aesthetic device rather than some deep rooted psuedo-psychological representation of Bond's sexual desire. I don't like to read into things too much, I'd rather just enjoy a film for what it is (especially the Bond films). I just found it quite funny that it crops up so many times.

Also there are many different things that water can represent: Freedom, Sexuality, Nature, Cleanliness, Purity... anyway the list is endless. I was just putting forth the one I felt fitted Bond's character best. ;)

Interestingly (or not) I did an essay on the Bond films during my study. Although it had more to do with gender than psycho-analasys. I'll dig it out and post it here sometime. It wasn't great but a few people here may find it interesting.

He didn't kill her with his PPK he used the gun she shot Valainten it looked liked a Colt 45.

Which of the Bond endings always really leave you guys with a huge smile on your faces almost applauding?

To me, SF, CR and MR have that great "ah good old Bond!" factor!

I mean, the first time I saw SF in cinema's and you saw the classic Bond opposite a male M "With pleasure M, with pleasure" and outpopped the Bond brass with the gunbarrel, it just doesn't get any better then that does it?

Which are your huge smile endings? :D

Disagree on LTK. Patti Labelle's if you ask me to is like saying good bye to an era of the first 16 'classic' Bond movies. It leaves me with a major smile :)
