Thanks Nightshooter!I certainly did.I now hang my head in shame...;)Batman's often been refered to as The Masked Manhunter. My only excuse is that I was working from memory.

Rogue's posted images by several of my favorite Batman artists already but I hope he'll add some pictures by Dick Sprang and Jose Garcia-Lopez to his gallery, along with Andy Kubert's rendition of Batman in the current Batman comic book.

My apologies, W.G. Sprang's look was indeed memorable as well as Lopez's.

I should be ashamed as well for not mentioning DICK GIORDANO who was a GREAT Batman artist with a clean classic look that rivals pencillers of today.

Also, W.G., I'm not sure how you feel about this guy, but Alex Ross belongs staunchly on this list for Batman artists; he's my son's favorite of the lot as well. ;)

On a side note, notice how Superman's costume looks here... BIG "S" - not little plastic "s". Also Supe's trunks are well inside the norm as opposed to the pornish speedos Singer had Routh slip in. Cape- made of the cloth we're used to seeing - not a shower curtain. :D

As someone who has invested quite a bit of bread on Ross' are, I have to agree with Rogue Jr. as I also enjoy his more realistic style of rending classic heros.

Still can't let that movie go, can you. :)) I have no problem with tweaking costumes for aesthetic effect. I freely admit to preferring Batman's cinematic black rubber suits to his gray fabric costume from the comics. As for Superman, I actually liked the raised "S" emblem but agree it should have been a little larger. Singer says the smaller size was a homage to George Reeves and that may be true, but it did look too small on screen. As for the speedos and cape, again, either style was fine by be. But I did think the boots were a little too short.

    Yes! Absolutely, Tony! {[]

Superman, even Routh's chest is just too wide for that little "S". And I wouldn't mind seeing Bats wear the grey cloth for a change...probably would get alot more bruises and cuts though... :))

You know Rogue, somebody reading thru this thread must think we're a couple of nuts. Two grown men having a serious discussion about capes, codpieces and red boots. Cue the fanboy alarm. :)) :))

For the actual comics readers- but I'm talking specifically to Tony, W.G. & Arthur, please I urge you to pick up Detective Comics #826 if you haven't already. The book has been written by Paul Dini and it involves The Joker and Robin (Tim Drake) ...again. What a great read I think that you won't be disappointed...at least I hope. :D

What is Dini's fascination with homocidal psychopaths and pubescent boys? :))

LatinoReview.com has an update on who will be the next Rachel Dawes? and who will play Harvey Dent. Hmmmm...

Exclusive: Casting News On The Dark Knight
    Date: January 25, 2007

    By: El Mayimbe
    Source: Latino Review

    OYE!

    EL MOFACKIN' MAYIMBE AQUI!

After much speculation on the web, I got some news concerning casting on THE DARK KNIGHT, the sequel to BATMAN BEGINS!

We gave the world the first look at the script review for BATMAN BEGINS 3 years ago so it goes without saying that my information is solid concerning this project. I don't get my information from any publicists, like other people do, those folks get spoon fed and believe me you expect other sites to start calling their peeps at WB to find out if this is true….Like they will ever tell you the truth.

    So that being said...

It's official (no surprise), HARVEY DENT is in THE DARK KNIGHT. Matt Damon passed on the role. The filmmakers met Josh Lucas and there is an interest in Jamie Foxx and Ed Norton. I'm pretty sure there are other actors that I'm not aware of up for the Harvey Dent role.

Now the big news is that the character of RACHEL DAWES is back in THE DARK KNIGHT but Katie Holmes won't be playing her!

    No surprise there.

She is being replaced and the filmmakers are looking for that actress now. Let the speculation begin...

    Some other minor roles...

Eastern European Heavy - tough bad guy mobster, 40s-50s
Female Cop - Latin, 30s. Elizabeth Pena type.
    Asian Accountant - male, 40s
Sounds like a lot of diversity in the sequel!

Also according to Production Weekly, the film has been in pre-production as of January 11th.

Lastly there is no Oswald Cobblepot AKA The Penguin in THE DARK KNIGHT.

That is all I have for now so stick with the hardest working Beaners in showbiz here at Latinoreview as further information develops on THE DARK KNIGHT! In the meantime, I have to change back into my housekeeping clothes and sneak onto the Warner lot here in Burbank. Wow, Alan Horn has quite a nice office!

Actually, it's already begun--I've heard that Rachel McAdams is the favorite right now. Then again, I think I've heard about ten different names bandied about for Harvey Dent. . .

I didn't mind Katie Holmes...but I'm so sick of TomKat that I'm afraid it's polluted my perception X-(

As far as I'm concerned, they can plug anyone into the Dawes role.

    P.S. Love Alex Ross!

I collected comics heavily until the kids (and the mortgage :# )...does anyone remember Norm Breyfogle's rendition of Batman? He conveyed a fluidity of motion/action which I thought was quite effective... B-)

McAdams would make a better choice for Lois Lane IMO since Bosworth was just dreadful to me. Besides, McAdams has nicer looking gams... ;%

As far as Two-Face casting, Liev Schiebler seems to fit the bill to me. I'm sure there are a handful of guys who could fit the bill for him. :)

Yes, I do remember Breyfogle! Good 80s artist with a very spooky approach to illustrating Batman. Still has a sizable cult fanbase.

Why the need to have Dawes is Holmes isn't playing her? It isn't like she was such an important character. Just drop her if you're going to ruin continuity. Honestly, who cares about her character?

As for Two Face, I think Hugh Jackman would be great.

Too associated to the Wolverine character unfortunately. Not a bad choice but it won't take.

I don't think that is true. If Bats was a Marvel character I'd agree, but he is DC. Although I guess the normal public doesn't know the difference, right? Yeah, okay, I see your point.

It's all considered the "comics" genre, Night. Why would Jackman submit himself to another comic book role? Doesn't something like that lead to type-casting?

You don't think being in a single comics role leads to typecasting? Nevermind two. As you said, he is too connected with Wolverine.
  • TonyDPTonyDP Inside the MonolithPosts: 4,307MI6 Agent
I for one am crestfallen that Katie Holmes will not be in BB #2; now we'll never see Batman jumping up and down on a couch as he professes his love for her. :'( Well, ok, maybe I'm not that disappointed.

I do agree that the character of Rachel is pretty meaningless at this point unless she is used as a sacrificial lamb to push Wayne further into his Batman persona. That's not a spoiler by the way, just a little speculation on my part.

As for Dent/Two-Face, Jackman could pull it off and the chance to sink his teeth into a good villainous role might be a welcome change from all the good guy parts he's had. But he is too associated with Wolverine and I wonder what the people at Fox would think about his participation in a competing comics franchise. I'd read they quickly soured on James Marsden after he signed on for Superman Returns and even blocked Iceman actor Shawn Ashmore from playing Jimmy Olsen. Liev Schreiber would be a great choice; not so sure about Norton or Foxx as I've not seen anything from either actor to suggest they have the physical presence to do a sufficiently imposing Two-Face.
  • NightshooterNightshooter In bed with SolitairePosts: 2,917MI6 Agent
Please, god, don't let it be Edward Norton. I hate him SO much.

The Liev guy looks right, I could see him doing it.

What about Jonathan Rhys Meyers? I've never seen him play aggressive, but I think he looks right. Very similar to the BTAS version of Harvey.

Myers is a good up and comer but he's not a very threatening looking lad as the BTAS Dent/Two-Face is portrayed. He looks like a guy you'd probably beat up and take his lunch money if you were schoolmates or something then get you cheesed by telling the principal in a ranting tear-fest...

Schreiber can play tormented and nutty very well; he has the handsome factor working for him and his frame is more physically imposing to Myers.

Definetely Liev looks like a Dent. Height, looks and the creep factor are working for him.

You can rule Jackman out for what Tony said earlier, Night; it's not going to happen. Norton will get the role before Jackman. :))
