Could not agree more, Tyrone, Alison Moyet would be a great choice. "Hometime" is a classic album- have you heard her "Voice" collection of covers? She interprets Bacharach and Legrand songs with ease, (two Bond connections there) and works well with an orchestra.
I just heard a really good one! I think this one would go with the literary Bond (Had the producers ever decided to draw from that )
"I Love To Love" by La Bouche would be a great song, minus the 30 second rap part. Of course it'd be like OP and TSWLM, the song isn't really named after the movie. Though it'd be great to follow in the same way, like a Bond girl sining about Bond (i.e. TND, LTK, TSWLM, OP etc...).
Picture it.

Sorry for the long delay in response...it`s been a wee bit mad over the last 2 weeks...
...Yes, Alison`s "Voice" album is brilliant, even moreso due to some of the tracks chosen to be covered. The "Waggle Taggle Gypsies Oh!" is very different from the usual repetoire that most would even dream of covering!
I think the albums producer Ann Dudley, one of the original members of the Art Of Noise/Trevor Horn production team really had a fantastic influence on the overall sound of the album, especially the orchestral and string arrangements. Your spot on with the Baccarach connection, and many of the tracks could easily be discribed as having that "Bond" feel and sound...recommend it...
Forever by the Charlatans. It would of made a great Bond song.
I'm sure David Arnold got the job for Play Dead.
Some thing produced by Timo Mass and sung by a powerfull female singer would be great for the Casino though.
A friend told me that one of the ex-Spice Girls did a Bond-ish sort of ballad some time ago; thankfully I've not heard this song.
I could picture "L'Appuntamento" (Ornella Vanoni) as heard on David Holmes's Ocean's Twelve soundtrack or "Mio Amore Sta Lontano" from Edwin Astley's Secret Agent Meets the Saint TV soundtrack (the only singer I actually know for sure who's done this one is someone named Angelique?) as source music for one of the 60's Bond films like FRWL. Perhaps either could be used for CR for a more retro feel?
Flattery will get you nowhere, but don't stop trying.
Hi Barbel,

Ann Dudley has done some good film work, and I wouldn't be too unhappy at her doing a Bond assignment- maybe with Alf singing? I've always felt Moyet's incredible voice is not matched by her songwriting, and she's at her best interpreting great songs.
"To Love Again" by Lara Fabian; "Put Yourself in My Place" by Kylie Minogue; "All I Ever Wanted" by Mariah Carey; "Two Steps Behind" by Def Leppard; "Through the Fire" by Chaka Khan; "I Surrender" by Celine Dion; "I Don't Wanna Cry" by Mariah Carey; "I'm Still Breathing" by Toni Braxton; "Just For Tonight" by Vanessa L. Williams; and "Swimming in Champagne" by Eric Heatherly (although it would "Swimming in Martinis" for Bond, of course)
This is not a song that someone wrote that sounds like it "could" have been in a Bond Film, but one that was dropped from the Soundtrack, for controversial reasons. I am referring to Alice Cooper's "The Man With The Golden Gun" from 1973, written for the 1974 Film of the same name. After the success of Macca's "Live & Let Die", the Film's scorers wanted someone that was a Hit with the Kids of the time and that was Alice in the height of the Glam Rock era. What the Producers didn't like was Alice's bravado and take it or leave it attitude to his lyrics, to the effect of "Golden Gun" a la "Golden Shower". lol In any case, Rumour has it the "Billion Dollar Baby" simply wanted more dough to supply the song, but it was actually the Producers simply didn't want anyone taking a "****" at their new Film (pun...pud?...intended). So, they went out and contracted Lulu and the rest is His... or Herstory. "These Boots Were Made For Walkin'"?
There's not THAT much controversy there. Alice Cooper simply thought he should sing the next Bond song. The producers thought he shouldn't. Simple as that. He sent it when nobody asked for it, so a rejection shouldn't come as a surprise. Put it simply - if you sent a song to the current producers and they won't use it in the movie, you have exactly the same credit of writing a song for a Bond film as Alice Cooper has... |)
That's true- somewhere I still have a demo tape (ah, the nostalgia of that phrase!) of a song I wrote around 1988 called "Licence Revoked", which nobody seemed to want...
Does anyone else think this could be a Bond song...maybe even for Casino Royale. It's called Left Me For Dead by Rob Dougan and I think it relates a bit to what Bond may have been feeling about Vesper. Be warned the end of the song is disappointing but that could be changed. The link to the song is below the lyrics for those who want to listen.
You didn’t stop to look 'round
You were gone before I hit the ground
You went on your way
And no prayer was said
You left me for dead
You didn't cover my face
I didn't merit a communal grave
You set me aside
And no tears were shed
You left me for dead
And I say I won't stop, no, 'till hell is your home
Theres nowhere to hide (no nowhere)
You'll feel the cold of my gun at your head
Ah, you left me for dead
And it’s not like you stayed by my side or you called me a priest
You searched through my mouth to check for gold teeth
You were pawning my shoes as I bled
You left me for, left me for, left me for
Dead
You kept on taking your time
Until it was certain I couldn't survive
Judas remained, you turned and fled
You left me for dead
And it didn't trouble your mind
It did not disturb you to see me decline
You turned out my lights
You put me to bed
Ah, left me for dead
(And I say) that I won't rest my head until hell is your home
You’ll think that you're safe, but oh no
You'll feel the cold of my gun hit your head
Ah, you left me for dead
And you didn't stay close to me, didn't stay by my side
I was choking in blood as delight filled your eyes
You're going to burn for each word that was said
'Cause you
Left me for, left me for, left me for
Dead
But I don't want to search no more
There's nowhere to hide
So why don't you come quietly, my love
I wanted to say, to say that you sure proved the death of me
Now I’ve reached a dead end and I can't go back
But if I'm going down then you'll come with me...
some of your suggestions are not too bad, most of them are just plain awful.
go and listen to the song there's a star from the album free all angels by ash
that is the best bond song never to have been in a bond movie.the sweeping strings ,the lyrics and that guitar solo, wonderful stuff.

Rob Dougan should get a chance to score a whole movie! The best parts of the Matrix scores were his contributions and that's what most people seem to remember anyway.

Not sure about that particular song for Bond (I think 'I'm not Driving Anymore' fits the bill better), but its nice to see another Dougan fan!
I hadn't thought of it but excellent suggestion i expect u2 die. Likewise always good to meet a fellow Dougan supporter. And Cat, you are absolutely right, Dougan is young and has an energy that I think would bring great life to the score of any movie lucky enough to have him, let's hope EON realizes that one day.
My suggestions are "Blame it on the moon" sung by Katie Melua on her record "Call off the search" and "hold me, thrill me, Kiss me, kill me" by U2.
Katie Melua has a voice and a style that is incredibly stylish, perfectly bondian.
The U2 song was made for a Batman movie and could need some changes in the lyrics, but not much.
The song has an energy and vitality you'll have to go back to "Live and let die" to find in a Bond movie.
seriously, even the title could be a Bond title.
the original version is very good, but the live version featured on the "Devotional" DVD is extremely Bond-esque.
Whoever said "Owner of a Lonely Heart" should be slapped hah. I remember a thread like this a while back, I said Never Trust a Stranger by Kim Wilde. Suitable lyrics especially from a bond girls P.O.V.
And how does James have a lonely heart anyway?
I think "Angel" by Massive Attack and "All is full of love" or "Bachelorette" by Bjørk has a modern bondian sound to them. Massive Attack or Bjørk could make something both modern and right for the tone of Craig's Bond, perhaps a bit like "Extreme ways" by Moby in the Bourne movies.
