What does your Bond shrine look like?

asioasio Melbourne, AustraliaPosts: 546MI6 Agent
I have been a James Bond collector for many years, and I have amassed quite a lot of goodies. So, I thought the time has come for me to them show off a bit (and I encourage others to do the same).
Here is my James Bond wall (I put TSWLM on the TV to make it complete). You will see my Sideshow collection, as well as a few Action Man figures and corgi cars. I also have the OHMSS & TWINE posters, a Portuguese calendar that was used in OHMSS (this one was a back-up in case the screen-used one was damaged), and a beret from one of Stromberg's soldiers as well.
On the other wall (not shown) I have a framed Max Zorin cheque, and a piece of Graves' Ice Palace.
I have added more things since I took the photo.

I would love to know what you think, and to see what your collection is like. And, hopefully, this thread will prosper. :)

I noticed a Liverpool poster on the wall. Oh dear! I am an Everton Fan!

My room was full of all my bond stuff until we went on Holiday to Australia and New Zealand and now the bond stuff is in boxes and my souvenirs are in their place.

Tee Hee, I was flirting with the idea of knifing my OHMSS Calendar, but it's such a rare prop that I really don't want to ruin it. I would have no qualms about doing it to a replica calendar though.

I have these same items but from other sources. Given the sheer number of Zorin checks in circulation, I'm beginning to wonder if EON were forced to purchase the minimum 500 that come with opening a new account! :-)

I'm curious if anyone knows a means of differentiating a real Zorin check from a fake, as most of them have to be forgeries. I suspect mine isn't real but I didn't pay much and it's not the sort of piece I would be devastated to learn was a deception.

BTW, given the Propstore's reputation, I'm confident yours is authentic.

Like you said, I guess it's just a matter of who you purchase it from. I'm not saying that only big websites can sell the real deal, nor that smaller websites are only sell forgeries. You just have to go with your gut instinct when you purchase a Max Zorin cheque.
BTW, propstore is not the only webiste I've purchased from. The t-shaped device (in the photo amongst some of the other props) is a radioactive core extraction device that was used by Dr Christmas Jones during the pipe bomb sequence in TWINE. I purchased this from www.bondcollectibles.de and it's one of my favourite props, mainly because the gorgeous Denise Richards once held it! :x

While enjoying a fog-free and relaxing Sunday afternoon at home, I decided to hunker down and take some pics with natural light. Here's my Bond figure collection (sorry for the shoddy digital camera work!):

My only peeve in this shot are the shawl lapels on Connery's dinner jacket (taken from Ken), which should be peaked. I will have this fixed eventually. Oddjob received a new body from Sideshow's Hunchback of Notre Dame figure, which is shorter than the average SS body. The golfbag can be found in craftstores for around $10.
Here's a full-length shot of Bond's Bentley Continental "Locomotive" as described in TB and OHMSS. The bodywork was radically converted from the standard, highly coveted continental body to resemble a Thunderbird, and sporting a non-gloss battleship gray finish. Quite frankly, I'm more jazzed up about the "Locomotive" Bentley than my DB5 model. There was some labor trouble with the shop that made this for me (2 years in the making!) and for a while I thought I would never see the final product. It was rescued, and I now have an arrangement of sorts with the artisan, who jumped ship from his employer. Unfortunately, the references I gave the the "large, armed leather bucket seats" were lost, and the resulting seats need more work to raise them to Bentley standards. In this shot, there's TB Bond with new legs that have no visible joints; Also, Jaws has scratch-built suspenders.Note the missing door handle from the Bentley, which broke off and needs repair. That's Sideshow Toy's Ash figure wearing Bond's black and white dogtooth suit (also from Ken), that is inconsistent with the Locomotive, since Bond wore this suit predominantly in the earlier novels. He did wear it during the golf match with GF, during the time Fleming researched this Bentley. This figure will soon be replaced by a modified French Foreign Legion "Gary Cooper" figure from Sideshow Toy, which IMO looks very close to Hoagy Carmichael.A view of the "blunt, knife-edged, rather ugly boot." Note LALD Roger, who is sitting on a Triumph Bonneville. I planned to convert this bike to the BSAM Bond used in FAVTAK, disguised as a SHAPE despatch rider, but will instead keep it as a Triumph, modified as a WWII despatch version with rider.Another view of the Bentley, and a metal replica PPK in an excellent GF holster movie replica produced by our own, and equally excellent Donald Grant. On the far right is Brosnan outfitted in non-descript black battlegear. I plan to extensively customize the figure and outfit for the GE pre-title sequence. Behind Q is my Jonathan Cape 1st Ed collection. Of course, they are the umpteenth printings and mostly in ex-library condition, i.e., cheaper to get. Only the dustjackets of the first 3 novels are repros, but the rest are real. The seated figure is James Bond as described in the SMERSH photographs from FRWL, wearing his standard dark blue suit (from a Mattel Frank Sinatra doll). I scratch-built the table, but the chair is also from Vitra Design Museum. I converted the figure, based largely on Hoagy Carmichael's features, and added the scar, lock of hair ("black comma"), etc. I also had the soda water siphon custom made by two dollhouse miniature artisans based on my specs (apologies again, since it is not clear in the pic). You really have to read that passage to fully appreciate this mini-diorama. The white base is cobblestone textured, and has been waiting for me to give it a paintjob. Lastly, there's Bond's black Ronson (real one), sitting on a long Sterling cigarette case awaiting a new gunbarrel finish. Oh, and yes, that's Sideshow's Dr. No Connery figure, wearing Frank Sinatra's hat, and an outfit custom made from herringbone wool. Trivia; in which movie did this Connery pose appear?A wider shot. I didn't want Dr. No to go unnoticed!b12.JPG

Thanks Blade, you are correct, that is the scene where Bond is described crossing his legs, and as SMERSH said, as stuffy as they are, in an arrogant manner only an Englishman would use, or something like that...I just love that passage! That one I actually customized from a pilot figure made by Dragon Models, with the suit from another figure, and the other parts from assorted sources.

Yeah, I finally got the Ronson. Unfortunately the filler screw is absolutely frozen, and I practically stripped the screw driver slot trying to open it. Oh well, I originally intended to just display it, but later actually using it appealed to me, probably the closest I've gone to actually immitating Bond in real life :D

    Superado,

You have a fantastic display! I particularly like your Aston Martin and Bently. Did you go slightly larger than 1/6th on the Bently to accomodate the figure? I'm seriously considering getting a 1/6th Aston Martin made. And as I said before that cafe Bond is simply awsome and thanks for the kudos on the GF holster.

The Bentley looks fantastic Supe, and I don't think it's hyperbole to say that this currently represents the best living incarnation of the car in the world. You have surpassed my expectations - I congratulate you sir!

Collecting the figures has never been one of my things, as I'm always disappointed in the relative scale and weight of the fabrics used. It always surprises me that manufacturers go to such great lengths with the likeness, then dress it in some awful lumpy outfit. Your customised versions look vastly better and have forced me to reappraise my preconceptions. I particularly like your Houndstooth-clad Hoagy-Bond and the Cafe figure.

Must have more details on the Bentley, I'll PM you.
  • superadosuperado Regent's Park West (CaliforniaPosts: 2,656MI6 Agent
Thank you everyone for your kind compliments!

Donald, on the Bentley's size, I measured it, and it is correct, "approximately." For one of the references, I provided the model-maker a 1/20th scale die-cast miniature of the Bentley SII by Solido. This car, as well as the speculated "Bond" Bentley on www.continental.org.uk/bond.htm , has rear seats. But in making the Fleming version having only two seats, with a top that totally "coverts" flush, the longer body surface to the rear of the cockpit gives the illusion that it's a bigger car.

Nightshooter and DG, these cars are made primarliy out of wood in the Philippines. With the spate of 1/6th scale military toys, some manufacturers of miniature vehicle like tanks and helicopters have utilized these craftsmen to make prototypes, with the lines later produced in Chinese toy factories. I can certainly hook you up but the process can be pretty expensive and drawn out. The DB5 and Bentleys are the first two models to be custom made for me. I have a Maserati in the works now, to be followed by a Bladerunner Spinner, then a SAS "Pink Panther" Landrover, spread out for several years, of course so I can in effect amortize the cost!

Nightshooter, I will PM you on Brosnan's outfit.

    Bill, just sent a reply.

    Superado,

Thanks for the info. I would defifnitely like to do an Aston Martin DB5. Although, I've always liked the lines of the Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato. It has a smaller wheelbase than the DB5 but the smooth italianate lines are quite lovely. I know to be strictly Bond it would have to be a DB3 or DB5, but that Zagato is so Bond like and so cool looking, it might have to be done. Again, I think your shrine is quite excellent and it has my Bond acquisition juices flowing again, Damn! Oh well, it's only money.

I too think that the Zagato Bodied DB4 is a beauty to behold, obviously the inspiration for the DB7, Vanquish and DB9. I prefer the racing version with roundels and in British racing green.

    Superado,

Yeah, the 5510 Submariner is one of those items I've been after for a long while and prices for them are regretably ridiculous. It pays to look around. One day, I'll complete my Bond watch collection. Can you say Red Grant Girard Perregaux or Scorpius Chronometer? When you include the novels it's even tougher. For the time being, however, thoughts of 1/6th scale Aston Martins and Bentlys dance in my head. Once again, I think your collection is top notch as well as your obvious respect for Bond source material. Now I want to re-read all the novels.

I was just wondering, how do you arrange your Bond collection(s)?
As I collect various different things, ie: action figures, CDs, DVDs, novels, props, etc, I have them positioned in various different locations of my room.
So therefore my Bond shrine is in fact 4 shrines in the one room.
