Official "Craig will be great" thread.

i expect u2 diei expect u2 die LondonPosts: 583MI6 Agent
It is becoming highly apparent that AJB at the moment is split in two: Those who like the idea of Daniel Craig as Bond, and those who don't.
Every topic about Craig is full of insults and negativity, and I feel lost in trying to promote a bit of optimism! I think DC will be a great Bond. His picture looks flemming-like, his voice is perfect and he has the rough-edge which I felt absent from Brosnan's pretty-boy face (which WAS pretty, so don't start).

I am highly excited about CR and full of anticipation, seeing the picture of Craig in the tux has put me right in the Bond mood and even the CR logo makes me tingle!

So, I have made this thread for everyone who, like me, wants to be in a positive atmosphere away from the negative dirge, in which we share the excitement for the next Bond actor / film.

(Those who don't agree, feel free to post, but please don't attempt to dampen the spirits and degrade Craig or this thread, reserve that for somewhere else.)

Count me in on being positive, and I appreciate the invitation.

Let's let the cameras roll on the production, and see what they've cooked up for us. I've got a better feeling about the future than I thought I'd have.

    LONG LIVE JAMES BOND! :007)

The more I hate the idea of Craig as Bond, the more I acctually like the idea as Craig as Bond. I see the publicity shot, and it's good. I have high hopes Craig will make an excellent Bond.

I've only seen the man in Tomb Raider and I didn't hate him. I say, "let's see what's he's got." I enjoy the chance to be surprised. If he's fierce, it'll be a good throwback to Connery and Dalton. As for the hair, it'll be a requisite of the acting capacity to see past that. Though it's not like Bond's hair has been consistent by any means (Look at the Moore era, hello sunwashed brown hair in AVTAK!). It looks like the weight of Eon offset the thundering travesty machine that Sony had chugging toward impending death for the quality of the world-famous character.

I think folks are hung up on how this guy looks (not "pretty") - and they're not looking at what he'll bring to 007. He's a fine actor who looks rugged (FINALLY) and isn't going to just walk in a room and smile and wink.

If you're going to have a new 007 - then make him new! That's what Eon has done here. Three cheers! Let's get 007 back to actually being a spy who kicks butt, not some guy who's just walking through the sets, winking, and pressing buttons. I want the 007 from FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE and DR. NO. Craig is the guy who can bring back the danger 007 needs as part of his character partly because of the way he looks (and acts.)

I don't know how anyone who is a true 007 fan (and has seen that photo of Craig as 007 posted on the Sony site) can say this guy has no potential as 007. Craig, I feel, will bring back a bit of Connery - that rugged masculinity that is needed for this character to be good again. That's not a shot as Brosnan - but he's not playing the role anymore. Craig is 007.

And let's all remember - we didn't see any of the screen tests. Craig could have been in another league from all the contestants and that's why he got the part!

I'd like to request that anyone with new pics of Craig from the conference or anything Bond related to post them here (I haven't seen many).

I posted this in the hair thread, but I'll post here to. I do hope it's the same Daniel Craig. It's not of the press conference, but a pic with him having darker hair.

If it's not the same Daniel Craig, let me know. I don't want to feel like a fool.

I agree there, if Craig's acting is great then it could certainly be possible to see past this hair "issue". And if Craig was so fantastic in his screen test (he's obviously impressed EoN, he's their Bond, is he not?), then that is definately an encouraging sign in that direction. :)

I've said it elsewhere, but it bears repeating here, that I predict Craig's physical stuff will be spot-on and kick-a**. His fight scenes WILL make us wince, which IMO is the measure of a good fight scene... :007)

Personally, I think that its time to move on and get behind this new project. Too much is being weighed on people that could have played the part and how this latest Bond isn't a right fit. Well, grow up people, its been decided. My hopes for the movie are: 1. the story makes sense and is cohesive and coharent, 2. that although there are liberties at how the Casino Royal story is treated on screen, try to make the elements that make it a Bond story really show on the screen, 3. have a believable Vesper, we don't need another teenybopper that's 1/3 to 1/2 the age of Bond being the Bond girl, its ridiculous - my chose for the role would be someone like Catherine Zeta Jones or someone a little more the age (of Bond) or older (like they used to be during the Connery era), and finally, 4. please, please, please bring back the Walther PPK - he needs a sidearm that is small, efficient, and conceilable, not something that fits in a lady's handbag.

Are you telling us here to grow up? If so, we are embracing what "has been decided"! However if that post was in support of a positive attitude to Craig, a good choice!

Support of Craig. I think that, like Dalton, he's going to bring another aspect of Bond to the fans, which each actor has done. I don't think you can say that any of the previous actors have had what everyone will call the definative Bond persona, but each one of them, including Connery, has brought forth an aspect of what they felt James Bond was to them. I'm inclined to believe that Craig's representation of Bond is going to be more closer to Dalton's representation than Brosnan's, since the overall feel and tune of the movie is to be more grittier and down to earth. That's not to say that the previous representations of Bond were bad or should be discounted, but with more down to earth tones that are being echoed by the director and producer, as well as fans after the last Bond outing, I'm inclined to believe that we may end up liking this one just simply because of its darker overtones. Another thing that I hope that they will do for this Bond outing is get rid of the political correctness and status quo that began to develop with Goldeneye and afterwards. Bond smokes, its part of the character, stop changing the character to fit the needs of small part of society. He's a fantasy character for crying out loud. I'm not going to take up smoking just because he does. And the other thing about him not having protected sex. Good lord, we can't see him having sex on screen most of the time anyway, and if we were, this would be an x rated film. Please don't change the character so that he has to hold up a packaged Trojan right before he goes to the bedroom - its stupid. People don't go to Bond films to learn about sex, they go to have an escapist adventure.

I agree with you in part, Liquid Ice. Bond does need to change with the times a little bit, since Bond is essentially the front-runner in bringing gadgets and far-reaching stunts and action to the silver screen. He smoked then because that's what was expected of the socialites - he doesn't smoke now because it's looked down upon.

In any case, Craig will obviously take the character in a somewhat new direction, and that is what we should be excited about: a new Bond movie! Finally, after the second-longest drought in EON history.

I was just thinking that, I always thought the TMWTGG gap was the 2nd longest, but this now takes second place. After something like that, I want something new. GE was a fresh new change after LTK, and I want a change from the Brosnan films (even though I loved them, I want to see a more Fleming-like Bond which I haven't had chance to live through yet). People need to understand the potential that is on offer here, and those who didn't think much of DAD are those I'd expect to appreciate it the most.

Wow, some of you guys have changed opinions overnight (Blade) and some of you have changed opinions as the day has gone on (Loeffelholz). Others stay true to their thoughts (Eye, Blueman, Hardyboy). Interesting day.

    That cheered me up:)

You know, I think that as time goes on, Bond fans are really going to warm to Craig as Bond. (They already seem to be, with all these changed minds, which I personally think is a good thing rather than bad, those people aren't glueing themselves to opinions.)

I´m more optimistic now that I´ve actually seen him playing the part (in his introduction he had to be act like Bond) and the first official pic. He really changed my mood...From a "No vay!" this morning, to a "let´s see..." now.
I´m also kind of relieved that we don´t have to wait anymore. It was nice to go to the IMDB and see "Daniel Craig.......James Bond".

I still have my reservations when it comes to Craig, but I'm perfectly willing to give him a chance. I'm really looking forward to CR. To prepare for the part he should emply two mentors before the shooting starts: a former SAS-trooper with inteligence-work background and a butler! Two people like that can teach him everything he needs to know to be 007. He's probably the best actor ever to play Bond, so that shouldn't be a problem. Then they should cast Jennifer Connelly in the Vesper part.

There are many Craig and CR orientated threads out there which will welcome any opinion. The whole point of this one to cut out the negativity so I find it highly selfish that you have chosen this one to flaunt it. Please, if you haven't got anything nice to say, go and say your piece somewhere else.

    Indeed.

I was never a big fan of Craig but like Blade, I now like him. I think he will make a great gritty realistic Bond. Isn't that what we have all been waiting for?

I am a little skeptical though. I cant wait to see how he does.

As stated in the topic title this is for positive comments on Daniel Craig. Not discussion on whether you think he is good or bad, wrong or right.

By all means disagree with posters on aspects they may comment on. But if you wish to comment on Craig as a bad choice, argue your view with a Craig supporter please find the appropriate topic.
