It's your self-appointed angel of Young Bond news here to deliver an update on Young Bond Book 3. We still don't have a title (which is really what everyone wants at this stage), but we do have LOTS of plot and location information. So here you go, you Young Bondophiles:

Well, I guess there aren't many Young Bond fans over here, but I do think this is very cool and VERY Bondian, young or old.

Gadgets of Book 3: The Apache

That gadget does indeed look intriguing, Zencat!! I must admit that I have yet to explore the world of Young Bond, but those photos have grabbed my attention. I will read a Young Bond novel in the near future, and hopefully enjoy it!!

I would start with Book 2, Blood Fever, Golrush007. I had mixed feelings about the first book, SilverFin. Well written, to be sure, but it was very much a book for children. But Blood Fever was a total Bond novel top to bottom, filled with fabulous locations, violence, great characters, and even sex (but in a more concealed way). It's truly one of the best Bond books...ever!

This Apache weapon represents everything I love about the Young Bond series. Even in a 1930s setting, Charlie pulls out something that is more Bondian than anything in the last, what?, dozen films. And I love that this weapon is real and has a diabolical history tied in with the "Apache" thugs of Paris. A far out gizmo grounded in realism with a nefarious history that ties-in with the book thematically (big city crime as puzzle piece).

UPDATE: Charlie Higson has confirmed this IS the weapon from Book 3, and offered a few more details.

I think they are. I was one of the people whom were strongly against this idea, but I tip my hat to Charlie Higson - he's really pulled this idea off. I look forward to book 3.

These proof copies are selling really high compared to SilverFin and Blood Fever I've noticed.

You're right, Qwerty. My proof of SilverFin cost about £10 and my proof of Blood Fever cost even less, whereas my proof of YoungBond 3 cost £30 - and that seems quite reasonable I've seen many go for between £50 & £80 on ebay why so expensive ?:)

Two of the members who have posted here (zencat and Qwerty) wrote thoroughly interesting reviews of Blood Fever here. You might like to read them to get a feel of whether Young Bond is your bag.

I have just finished reading YoungBond 3 and, once again, Higson does not disappoint - it's a real page-turner. A good story with good villians - get this man to write an adult Bond novel soon !!
