Wow, thank you all for the great responses; apparently I was in the Twilight Zone when I was drawing this because I was beginning to think that NO ONE liked Scarecrow at all. I mean they couldn't give action figures of him away at the Times Square Toys-R-Us...well, they had a bunch for 2-3 bucks- and that was a dramatic markdown. )
He's a cool bad guy.
Some co-workers told me that very few artists have truly captured the frightfulness of the character (Tim Sale comes to mind) but thought this pic nailed it so that was good to hear I was in the neighborhood.
I will probably do some sample pages for a proposal one day using him to show some DC editors I meet in the future. Maybe I'll call it:
"The 20 Minute Thanksgiving"...Holiday returns to murder his victims by choking them with drumsticks.
And yes, 'Nique...I always think of Burgess Meredith when I want to draw The Penguin. There really is no other interpretation that's more favorable. That is unless it's the one from BTAS. B-)

Here's a few more non-spoiler pages from my comic; I hope that they're to your liking. My Mass buddy did a good job inking these to me. B-)
At the time of pencilling a couple of these, I was sick at home from Bronchitis. I felt really bad but I love this stuff so much, I wouldn't stay in bed. I think it's safe to say that it's a big deal for me.

Well this story is to sort of poke fun at Tony but incidently my inker did a show up in Jersey last week and unbeknown to me showed the latest SHY pages on here to alot of Marvel & DC pros that attended.
He said that everyone of them loved the artwork which I thought was very flattering because some of the names he mentioned to me aren't very kind to unknowns with their prima attitudes.
I try to avoid or block out stuff like that because the profession can be cruel at times.
One DC pro in particular was Jim Calafiore who couldn't stop praising my backgrounds & buildings saying that alot of artists who want to get into the biz seem to neglect this part of the process to focus more on muscles, capes and fights. He thought that my style was cool and set the tone...that bit of news over the phone made my day...oh and one of the books that Calafiore is famous for...
TonyDP's favorite superhero. I'll try and get him to sketch you an Arthur Curry for your collection, man. )
Just thought I'd share that.

Wow, Rouge! That's really awesome that they liked your pages! It's always awesome when the pros act like decent human beings for once and show an interest in something that's not their own.

Nice story Rogue; I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that it will lead to something fruitful.
As for the Aquaman sketch, please don't go out of your way. Really. Honest. I think I can get by without one. But if it does happen, just make sure Calafiore gives The Gentleman Guppy a mullet.
And you may want to tell him to keep his portfolio up to date; anybody working on Aquaman will invariably be out of work very quickly - he's been cancelled more times than a box of stamps.

I have to do a convention here in a couple of weeks and I already have requests for commissions regardless of how odd some may be...
Case in point:
Apparently, I was given a down payment for this piece; the young lady who wanted it has/had a crush on this character from BTAS... I have no idea why... )
Here's another request I did for a huge Riddler fan. My kind of guy.
He's a fan of villians and this is his favorite one in the Batman world. They will pick these up upon coming to our table April 5-6. I tend to get bogged down with requests despite me sending some customers to other artists around me so I guess I should be grateful.
I also was commissioned to do a few pinups for a sci-fi graphic novel that is coming out in July and when it's finally inked and colored, I'll post it for you guys.
Mrs. Man Face: "You wouldn't hit a lady? Would you?"
Batman: "The Hammer Of Justice isUNISEX!"
-Batman: The Brave & The Bold -
Some notable sci-fi celebs usually show up here so this could be right down your alley, man.
I want to come out west, Pen. As a matter of fact, I have friends on the west coast always asking me to come out to San Fransisco and San Diego for their major cons all of the time. I've always wanted to go to Arizona and Seattle's too.
Being a family man, with other obligations more pressing sometimes, I have to pick my appearances wisely for now. Hopefully that will change for the better one day soon.
I imagine as large as Colorado is, Pen, they ought to have a large comic book fanbase. Pretty sure there are a few coventions held there every year.

mmmmm...I'll have to go research those...a comic con would be GREAT fun to go to...it'd be cool to bump into you at a con someday...:)
~Pen -{
You just might one day.
Coincidently, I have a 13 year old boy who takes my art classes every week and he's from Colorado (Denver outskirts) so I'll ask him this weekend if he knows of any conventions coming down the pike.

Well the ComicCon here was a pretty good success for me; I made some connections with a few people. One man is considering me to do storyboards for some animation company he's with so I'll have to keep an eye on that and see if it's doable.
I met alot of the artists alot of guys like myself here grew up idolizing and getting great comps on my stuff: Tom Morgan (The Punisher 2099), Bob McLeod (Marvel artist), Steve Erwin (Checkmate, Star Trek & Batman Returns Movie Adaptaion comic, etc)
I completely sold out of the first two issues of my comic that I had brought and did countless sketches for fans of all ages. It really was a good time by all.
Here are a couple of pics from the con that I wanted to share with you guys...
Here's a pinup drawing I'm doing for a tshirt design of my main character Dominic Cevario; I was going for an Edward G. Robinson look. This girl below fell in love with the pic and begged me to take a picture with it Sunday.
She came both days looking for me with her friend. Mind you if she wasn't 6'2" I'll eat my hat and absolutely gorgeous legs on her that started from the neck down. She completely dwarfed her boyfriend but I hardly think he cared...I know I wouldn't with what she was wearing...especially that Saturday.
Here's another one that I did for a Batman fan's sketchbook. This guy had drawings in it from some of today's top artists and with 10 minutes left to go for the convention, I whipped up a quick little something to the cause... He nagged me to do one in it and I was flattered.
There's another pic of a hot babe that my friend took a picture of holding a Superman picture I did for her but she was so revealing in what she was wearing that they asked her to leave and cover up before coming back in. Let's just say that her Black Canary outfit was a size or two too small...in certain places.
It was really hard to concentrate drawing her picture standing over me busting out all over her figure like she was. I couldn't keep my eye on the page...but I remained professional. ;%
I think my buddy was foaming at the mouth like George Kennedy in that Naked Gun movie. )
I suspect that bum of a buddy is holding out on me with that one. I might have the Acolytes pay him a visit tonight... :v
Hope you enjoy.

6'2" wow! And they say good things come in small packages ) Rogue, I hope you had your Bat grapple gun with you )
By the way that Batman sketch is fabulous. Good job pal. I hope some of these contacts pay off for you. Best wishes always.
Hey thanks, Spec. I'll see where all of this leads, hopefully somewhere positive.
I really didn't have much time to do the pic the way I wanted...just 10 minutes before closing so I was rushing on it.
As for the tall woman,I'm sure that her boyfriend really needs a grapple just to keep up with her. )
On a side note, the graphic novel that I contributed on with creator/writer Mike SanGiacomo, was in this month's preview from Image Comics and The New York Times caught wind of the ad and is heavily considering doing a review in their paper for it. Last that I heard it was 75-25 that they would.
After that last bit of news I had to pull out the Pepto. )

As a wise, little green alien once said, "Size matters not!" )
You have great looking stuff there Rogue (and I'm not just talking about the blonde) and I'll also keep my fingers crossed that there are bigger and better things waiting for you around the corner.
BTW, is that Mr. Freeze to the left of Batman?
BTW#2, I'm kind of surprised that you didn't have in your portfolio a drawing of the summer's #1 movie ... IRON MAN {:) (runs for cover)
Yes. A guy a few tables down from me did that one. The pages were so thin in his sketchbook that ink bled through...It was a cool pic though.

Well, Tony at this point, it appears to be a two-horse race for the summer crown. Iron Man's got some great advertising going on lately.
Batman's will pick up tremendously (I hope) in the weeks to come since two months seperate both films.
We shall see. :v
Thanks to you & Pen both for the comps.
I prefer playing down any potential opportunities that may present themselves until they present themselves. Only shared this with you guys here...

do you ever do conventions in Colorado??? Are there even comic cons in Colorado?

Yeah I asked her that but she just wanted the weird kid with the pilgrim shoes.
It's fun drawing in Bruce Timm's style (what she wanted); it was either that influence from the cartoon or Jack Kirby's from the early books...
