At the risk of being labeled a Marvel Sister, that's a pretty rad Wolverine, Rogue!
Thank you, all. I'm glad you like it. And no, Alex...you'd have to be on another level of fanaticism before being labeled one of the Sisters. )
Did a local con over the weekend and it went well...a few solid contacts were made. Anytime that you can stay busy at your table drawing sketches, you're doing well. You have to be quick with the work of course.
Here are a couple of shots of customers who requested characters drawn by me:
BTW, I met ADAM WEST for the first time B-)! A nice guy but I never realized his wit was so acerbic with some people that approached him. Some took it the wrong way but that's just guessing on my part.

Nice Wolverine Rogue, but it needs a caption, maybe... "Hey Singer, this is how many stars I gave Superman Returns!" or something.
Hopefully you make the Marvel Sisters do something appropriately humbling before turning it over, like making them wear a Green Lantern Power Ring for a week.
I really really liked your Thor and Doom sketches. I absolutely loathe you for being able to draw in minutes what I could not do in years! )
Good stuff my friend.

Just fooling around during an art break and doodled this one up last night.
I love TNBA and this is one of my favorite pairings in a weird and humorous way. Not sure why exactly but I felt like scribbling this ...
I really miss '90s animation. It's gotten terribly lazy lately for whatever reasons.

Hey Rogue, love that Batman pinup a few posts back; very very nice and glad you decided not to throw it away.
BTW, any chance of posting a few scans from Shylock #3? I curious ( and also a little apprehensive ) as to how my brother and I were immortalized in ink...

My son not long ago finished his entry for the Black History Month art contest at his school & district.
Having decided to stray from the usual faces in black history that are recognized during this month, I suggested he go in a different direction...and under the circumstances, he agreed fully.
This time his entry was dedicated to me: his Jimi Hendrix fanboy dad! B-)
I think this shows that he's fed up with placing 3rd/4th in all of his art and spelling contests because he's younger than all of the other kids that compete. He wanted to come out with a vengeance this time because he wants 1st place.
Friggin' 12 years old! I might be in trouble soon if he keeps this up.
Wish him luck, he's one of 20 entries thus far.

Very nice image there by Rogue Jr. I can definitely see Hendrix and he even got the placement of the guitar right as since Hendrix was a leftie he basically played it backwards and upside down.
Good luck with the competition; hope he kicks ass.

Tony, Mr. Martini & Pen, I thank you and my son says thanks as well. Apparently, his art teacher thought his entry was fresh and a first for her at least so that might help him.
She's already asking if he'd be interested in some Sci-Fi art contest coming up in the months ahead. B-)
Should I throw another influence in there to him? Kirk? Spock perhaps? Koenig?

While my love of Trek is well documented, I think its too obvious a choice and any composition involving it may end up being dismissed since there's so much stuff out there already. Space 1999 is an interesting notion but may also be a bit of a stretch as it's simply not as fleshed out a universe.
Personally, I'd steer him towards some classic sci-fi movies; 2001: A Space Odyssey and Forbidden Planet with their respective iconic imagery are both can't miss subjects. I think a composition from either of those movies would definitely raise a few eyebrows with sci-fi fans. Another good choice might be silent film classic Metropolis as a rendering of the robot Maria might go over well. Personally, I'd stay away from Star Wars or anything more recent as, like Trek, there's just too much stuff out there already.
Just my two cents; either way, look forward to seeing what he comes up with....
classic trek (kirk, spock, the lot of them, really...) might be a good idea
I'm gonna let my Firefly fangirl show again and put in my two cents for any of the crew of Serenity, though those guys might not be as well known to whoever is judging...or a recent fave of mine, the new V series...even classic V would be awesome to see.
I agree with Tony in saying that steering away from Star Wars (even the classics) might be a good idea for his entry to stand out more...a lot of entrants would probably latch onto those characters due to the large upsurge in the new Star Wars cartoons and junk...
whatever he does, I know it's gonna blow away the competition after all, he's a chip of the old block.
Im pissed but how about steampunk superheroes, ie Batman with Fleming's Bond at Casino Royale circa 53 is that an idea? No offence if it's rubbish. it might be. Or with M Ali aka casius clay, a bit of mixiing it up?

I was lecturing a cartooning class to a majority of young men paining through puberty and was showing them the difference in drawing a female model in the academic sense and then tweaking her appearance for what sells in the comic book field to kids no older than they were. In other words, it was a demonstration that "sex sells" in most formats.
In the overhead projector, I drew this one while explaining as I went:
I was trying to say that the female in the above pic was well drawn but nothing really screamed out about her as sensual nor energetic and they all agreed...
Then I placed this altered copy over the original:
And at the end of class, a mother of a 16-year old boy, got ballistic with me because I had him drawing enhanced breasts. She asked me if I taught allof my students to draw "bimbos & tramps".
Bear in mind that with this particular age group, drawing the human figure (male or female) for my class is a prerequisite. She exclaimed that she wasn't ready to expose her son to this type of "anatomy" yet which puzzled the other parents and embarrassed her kid. The boy's aspiring to be an Art major; he's going to see more than breasts in college.
Well, I never want to have unhappy customers so I offered her a refund and the kid's father came in shortly afterwards and said no. He wanted his son to continue learning and he loved it.
Then I thought of the Marvel Sisters and pondered if maybe they came up as sheltered as my student was.

Rogue - you don't need me to tell you that you are a talented artist - but I'm going to anyway )
A mom embarrassing her 16 year old over breasts in public is by far the worst thing to do to a growing dude. He'll remember that episode for the remainder of his life, I'll wager not too fondly. Thankfully, he had a cool dad. Sheesh!
You really should've given her a Madonna spiked fembot bra, then watch their eye's bug out!

I have to ask RA, is the above picture modeled after a personal friend, or just a general picture you drew up to explain the differences of the female model and the "sex sells" model?
BTW, another outstanding drawing. Great work.

Thanks, guys. Yeah I felt bad for the kid not just because he's talented...he's genuinely a good kid. I wasn't going to cower to such foolishness but I refrained from going toe to toe with the mother for his sake because I really like him. So I took the high road with her outburst.
She apologized to me yesterday but my feelings towards her son during class weren't thwarted because his mom decided to have a tantrum over breast size. I mean I taught my son at 5-6 years old the importance of ample appendages on women he might draw...somehow, being a breast-man already, he already knew. Damn that Swordfish movie!

No, it was just a generic creation to show to the students how "plain" just isn't enough to get by when drawing females.
If I were using a personal model, I wouldn't draw her as is, because you run the risk of unintentionally drawing every little flaw that she might have. Women can be very self-conscious about that sort of thing so you have to be very careful in how you're going to render her and keep everyone happy.
It's a pretty sexist society that we live in but it's the nature of the beast. You can draw an ugly guy with every wrinkle and shadow placed right on him and it's awesome to editors...not the same for babes though. If you continuously draw Plain Janes for your portfolios, editors won't give you a second look for employment.
