I got a chance to meet Richard "JAWS" Kiel today at the convention. We swapped HAPPY GILMORE references back and forth.
Now that is cool, but we need to work on your photography Rogue, you're almost as bad with a camera as I am. )
Can you help tell me how to focus better from a cellphone camera? That's what I used; nothing much else- ever.
I don't think that I have a focus on it... ?:)
Sorry Rogue, I have a pretty vanilla cell phone with no camera so I can't help out there. Once my agreement expires next year I may get something a little fancier.

Thanks anyway...
For what it's worth, here what was going on from behind my table once I got a chance to take a break.
Mrs. Man Face: "You wouldn't hit a lady? Would you?"
Batman: "The Hammer Of Justice isUNISEX!"

I - I think these people were groupies. I might adopt them as such.
Well they hung around our table the majority of the day.

How come Richard Kiel was there? Was he there due to his role as Jaws? Because I thought it was a comic book convention.
"He’s a man way out there in the blue, riding on a smile and a shoeshine. And when they start not smiling back—that’s an earthquake. and then you get yourself a couple of spots on your hat, and you’re finished. Nobody dast blame this man. A salesman is got to dream, boy. It comes with the territory." Death of a Salesman

Anyway after witnessing JAWS invunerability, how can one say that it wasn't comic-bookish? )
I'll try and get more pics of Mr. Kiel today on my camera phone.
Don't insult Jaws! X-( . If you do talk to him, perhaps you could ask wether he preferred TSWLM or MR. :v

Here's a comic illustration page(cellphone shot) I'm working on of The Prisoner in its early stages.
Anytime an artist takes on iconic celebs and their shows/movies, there's always the chance you don't capture them at all and it might mean failure if one or more viewers has to ask who it is. Being that this is one of my favorite shows ever, I'm trying to stay disciplined to capturing Number 6's likeness and tell a story from the panels at the same time.
Well here's what I've done thus far; I started on this last Tuesday and I'm taking a "Baby steps" approach to it...
Mrs. Man Face: "You wouldn't hit a lady? Would you?"
Batman: "The Hammer Of Justice isUNISEX!"

Absolutely perfect. Couldn't be any better. That gets me excited.

Looks awesome Rogue; you really caught his expression beautifully. Look forward to seeing the finished product.

Thanks, guys. I'm relieved that so far it resembles McGoohan.
I'll try and knock it out of the park.

I coming up on completion of Number 6's features with the use of my Prisoner collection which I put on pause to quirk the look here and there of my own style...
As I've stated before, it is imperative to capture his essence of a recognizable celeb and not have others not able to figure out who it is.
I'm using 3 different mediums at once and over 8 different colors just to make the skin look life-like.
If it doesn't look like him then I haven't accomplished what I set out to do. Hope this is good...

Looking very very good to me Rogue. I don't have the original frame in front of me but the hair and the mouth look just right to me from memory. I can't make out the eyes too well as your camera doesn't seem able to capture the contrast in that area ( and we all know your photographic skills lag way behind your artistic ones ).
Not an insult but who is it? What's a Prisoner? I like it though; that's a nice start.
Back in the mid to late sixties there was a very original and eccentric TV show called The Prisoner, about a secret agent who resigns and is imprisoned in a secluded location called The Village. The show dealt with his attempts to escape even as the mysterious forces that controlled the Village tried to discover why he resigned. The star of the show was Patrick McGoohan and the picure Rogue is painting is based on a frame from the opening credits.
Here's a pic similar to what Rogue is working on. I think he's capturing McGoohan's likeness and expression quite nicely.

Hey, that book looks cool! That's sort of what I'm doing although I'm basing mine on the DVDs I have which in freeze-frame looks slightly different. The eyes are still shadowed by the brow though...
I don't have any Pris memorabilia but I'm looking on Ebay for that one.
Thanks, guys.

SpectreIsland and I have the book; lots of nice photos but not a lot of in-depth info. I'm pretty sure its also still available thru Amazon.

Love the updated pic. Agree with Tony tat there is something weird about the eyes but it could just be the photo. Also, why is there a lotus 7 flying into his head?

Because he's being attacked by miniature cars driven by little Number 6s of himself...
No, it's a comic page that I'm illustrating and that's a broken panel. I'm glad you like it.
As for the shadowy eyes, in intense sunlight it is particularly hard to see them with the kind of brow he has. It's like that on my DVD too as I pause it but I've done a faint hint of his pupils that my crappy camera phone did not pick up...

That's the beauty of drawing Batman; there are so many different artistic interpretations of him that someone will always have a favorite look. I prefer the Neal Adams' version myself(longer ears) but on this piece I just wanted to keep it pretty simple...

I'm proud to say that my son has won his first art contest - nationwide art contest from some well known temp agency.
He, along with two other kid winners- one from NYC, will receive a gift card for 50 dollars from Toy-R-Us, certificate and a slew of the Christmas cards from all three winners. We were told that kids submitted from all 50 states but theirs' stood out the most.
I'm really proud since I told him that he was on his own with this project; it makes the feat more satisfying for him in the end.
Congrats, son! I didn't win my first until I was 12-13 years old. {[]

Maybe Sunday, Dan. As for today, it'll be more Happy Gilmore.
Yesterday, Kiel & I were in agreement that this was the best scene from this Oscar-worthy performance. )
