That's what I'm saying - it's an oddly staged photograph; there aren't many mags that would use non-studio shots of this nature for the cover. I don't think it's the greatest shot of his but the pose is fairly impactful and also new so I expect that's why they went with it.
And CR on the front of Empire magazine isn't exactly the worse news this film could have.
Still drinking from that half-full glass I see, Em. And Kool-Aid no less! )
Eh? Because looking at half full is worse than half empty? Out of two people with those differing outlooks, who's going to have the happier life? No idea what 'Kool-Aid' is, I'm afraid.
What did I say that you don't agree with? I said it's not the most flattering of him, but I said why I thought they went with it and that it's rather far from the media apathy which so many wish to paint this film with to have it on the cover of Empire so soon.
I would have to say that Empire is a mag that very much knows which side its bread is buttered. Like with DAD, the writer slagged off the movie release mostly but they still had to give it three stars rather than two. They like to keep on the right side of the powers that be, so no, they're not gonna slag off Craig unless they really have to.
the problem with danny is he's a two face.(seinfeld fans will know what i'm talking about)he looks great when he's moving about, fighting, running, looking mean and moody getting off a plane etc,but get him to sit or stand still for a picture and he doesn,t look so hot.this is a well known phenomenon.i used to have a girlfriend like that.she was really pretty but from a certain angle, she looked like a different person.ah these were the days,we were madly in love, but circumstances drove us apart,i remember one time......oops sorry i was nearly away there.anyway back to the subject.we will be going to the cinema to see danny in action(looks good)not to see photographs of him(looks bad)so come on folks, let's stop all the slagging.
Sorry if you're not familiar with that reference -in the US it's used regularly. It has to do with blind following and fanaticism. A true believer is said to have "drank the Kool-Aid". Google Jim Jones, Jonestown, Guyana, 1978, mass suicide.
I'm just saying, Em, if you're going to have to explain every bad picture of Craig over the next few years - uhm, bad lighting, bad angle, bad photographer, our bad EYES - you really do have your work cut out for you.
I'm not 'explaining why it's a bad shot'- I have just said that he doesn't look great in it! I was just questioning as to why the photographer took a shot like that- it's an odd way to take it; two separate issues. Some people would look great there; he doesn't- hence; the photographer made or was forced into a bad decision. Jeez; why do you have to pick apart everything I say?
And don't accuse me of blindness- that's a personal insult and I'm fed up of getting them from you just because you disagree with how I think. I happen to like the direction this film is taking- I know your intolerance of others' opinions means you have to think up some reason as to why I'm dysfunctional in some way, but you'd better deal with it. I haven't said anyone's wrong to think he looks bad in this pic; I've simply said I think it's still a cool pic and gave the reasons as to why I think it may have been used even though he's not looking super-slick in it. And you have to jump on me for it. Boring.
I've had this discussion with you before. I've voiced my doubts and disappointments about this film on here before; as I said to you last time you tried to bait me like this. Show me where I'm one-sidely excited about this Cornell chap. You don't listen. You plug on with the same old thing. It's boring. I won't be replying as everyone else is getting bored reading this, as I am.

Re: the Empire Cover
Anyone who's read the script knows that this is how Craig will look in the very last scene of the movie---when he finally delivers 'the line.' B-)
Sorry. He looks like James F*****g Bond to me. :007) Those so inclined can obsess over every crevasse and wrinkle. So what? This man's earned them all---especially on this site 8-) Why do you think I use the 'Beaten-Up Danny' from LC as my avatar? {[]

Not to perpetuate anything, but I do want to say that Benskelly has come around on a lot of issues regarding CR, and he seems to be looking forward to it, so I really wouldn't say he looks at things all that negatively. At least not anymore.
And Loeffs, since you mentioned Dan in Layer Cake, I would like to mention that I thought he looked fantastic in that movie. I mean, he looked like an attractive guy I believed that Sienna Miller's character would give the phone # to him without saying two words to him. Sure, he looked terrible in the shower scene and when he was beaten up, but he was supposed to.

Thanks, 'shooter! If you're not afraid of spoilers, I've something for you (if you are, please disregard):
There were 'behind the scenes' photos taken showing poor Danny, dressed as he is on the 'Empire' cover, holding both the gun shown and Vesper's cell phone. If you've read the script, you'll know that this happens at the very end of the film---although he's holding a handgun in the actual final shot. I just put 2 and 2 together; the final page of the script (p. 112) makes no wardrobe specifications for Bond. If I'm wrong, c'est la vie. If I'm right, it will likely remain a secret.

Lots of good pics, it's a splashy spread. Craig looks ok in all the other pics, and there's a nice classic look to the shots. Opulent and pre-Dr No.
A small section on the craigisnot Bond website, too, and Danny answers questions about the controversy...
Damn, that means i'm going to have to wait to Monday to get the magazine here in Ireland, if it is only out today.

I'll have to pick this up when I can---it's the nature of my illness; I'm starved for Bond.
I still own the issue of Starlog magazine from 1983, with a split cover featuring both Connery (NSNA) and Moore (OP)...what a great year for Bond fans...

Having seen this cover close up now (I bought the mag yesterday), I think some people are being very harsh. Yes DC is a rugged looking bloke, but he has a fantastic square jaw and looks very cool in that particular picture. The problem I see is (still) with the hair. I'm disappointed that they've stuck with the 'cropped' look as I don't think it does him any favours.
This isn't a ringing endorsement of DC as Bond, I reserve judgement until I see the movie, but to compare him to Steptoe is pretty daft IMO.
