For those who have never read the books you absolutly must go and get one of them and read it, its a whole new universe.

I ship out for AIT someitme in the near furute (date unknown but hey thats the Army for you) and wanted some reading material. Picked up my favorite two, they are excellent.

To those Bond fans who have just seen the movies, please do yourself a favor, go get one of the books, you will pick up everyone of them.

P.S Yes I like OHMSS but then again I like all the Bonds/Bond movies, guess that makes me :s :007) :))

Yes, the books truly are superb. Casino Royale, in my opinion, is good enough to be considered true literature.

You're right, it's not. I'll move it to the relevant forum.

I understand where your coming from slyguy, but if everyone started posting things that they wanted other 'groups' to see, we'd have movies discussed in the literature section, vice versa, 'check out this new game book lovers!' etc etc and then there'd be no point having a structured forum of topics.

To keep this nice ol' forum the way it is, it's gotta be one rule for everyone unfortunately.

I loved OHMSS!!! That skiing scene with Bond racing down the mountain was amazing :D

Have you read LALD yet, Slyguy? Soooo good :) Oooo, I don't want to give anything away, you should get all of the novels on Half.com before you ship out!

Yea I understand the rule, and it makes sense, your absolutly right, maybe if the header was bought CR the book :P

Well since my ship date has been delayed yet again I'll be picking up more of the books. Thanks for the referal I'll defiantly go pick up a copy of LALD.

The only thing I'm not keen on is the covers. Not that I don't mind the women tasefully exposed, Goldfingers cover is a combo of Purple and Lime green 8-) While eye catching it is rather hard to look at, but I guess the gold painted honey is enough a blancing act to have it work for me

You can also look for the "From Russia wit Love" - a good book, even thought Fleming made a lot of mistakes describing political situation in USSR.

Yes - IMO the best novel although it does take an unusual approach, ie. Bond doesn't appear until a long way in because Fleming takes a long time setting up the SMERSH plot. But once Bond goes off to Istanbul, the novel is unstoppable. Fantastic stuff!! (No wonder FRWL is my favourite Bond film as well).

Unfortunaly Fleming paid no attention to the fact that Smersh was simply a kind of military police, counter - guerrilia and anty - commando force. This organization was an organic part of the NKVD/MGB, and by the time FRWL action takes place it was destroyed (one of the reasos was that there were a lot of Stalin and Beria - lovers among officers of the unit. So SMERSH could not take action outside USSR. And, certainly, it takes you only few minutes to check in the dictionary and see that the word "conspiracia" was not used properly, it should be "operacia";). But anyway the plot is interesting, and since it is Bond series, the mistakes can be forgiven

one reason why the books are so important is because we can have a look into Bond´s head, so, we know what is he thinking, if he is lost, affraid, resignated... those are things than you´hardly see in the movies, for that, you need a good actor to express those thoughts (please don´t give names)

Books and films are differents, but have some things that are the same. (like OHMSS: amazing book and marvelous movie)

some books have mistakes, yet are a universe in which probably that mistake is totally aceptable.

This is the primary reason why I prefer the books to the movies.. if any of the actors actually portrayed the character in the way in which he's presented in the novels, he'd either come off as crazy or weak (because obviously none of us express each seperate emotion we have all day to the outside world). I enjoy seeing the vulnerability of the character in the novel, and I think it adds the depth that the film franchise has been trying to artificially create for years now...
