Now here's an idea i like the sound of:
My initial reaction was 're-use an existing theme? How unoriginal!'. But there is a very strong link, IMHO, between OHMSS and CR. Also, it will allow Arnold to retain a very Bondian soundtrack without the Bond theme itself. I think OHMSS's theme is an excellent one, certainly strong enough to be carried over into another film.

How cool is that!

You certainly have a point there - I was looking forward to a departure from Arnold's normal style.
I really liked all three of Arnolds last scores, including DAD. But he's the one that said months ago that a new Bond meant a new sound and that he'd gone as far and done as much as he could with the old sound.

It's great music. I enjoyed the homages to it in AVTAK. It might be just the right touch to help bridge Craig's Bond with the pre-Brosnan Bonds.

Ah - David Arnold must visit these sites regularly, this rumour has been shot down even quicker than the Goldfrapp one!
What, no James Bond theme, this can't be the case by any means. There's always - at least has been - at least a little piece of it somewhere.
Well didn't they try that with GE's score and then when they heard it they complained there wasn't enough James Bond in it and then had certain sections like the tank chase rescored by another composer?

The Bond theme was very much present in the gunbarrel, complete with the first twanging guitar since TSWLM.
As for the score, I find it very underrated. The Bond theme is used brilliantly when bond 'jet skis' behind the plane, mid take-off.
I'd love to have a full version of the LTK score for many reasons, but principally this; I love the music that is played in all the casino sequences, which is lush and beautiful and full of character and fun.
@merseytart
I've never actually considered that, but now I do - you're completely right, there is no back up theme. In fact I can hardly think of an individual theme at all, even the main title song is unused.
But that gunbarrel is spectacular, and I will argue so to the grave - the tense opening brass is very effective, and it was great to finally hear the guitar again.
I really hope to see an expanded score out there soon, the Bond universe is sorely lacking one.
Let's just say it's not impossible, but the rights are currently hiding somewhere. And there's no money backup either, but now that's the smaller problem. Thank God Kamen used the National Philharmonic Orchestra, otherwise we could have said goodbye to it forever...
I am also looking forward to this new score, which I think will be closer to classic Barry than ever before.
However, I am also looking forward to something new, whether from Arnold or a different artist. We can only take so many re-hashings of John Barry's style. For example, I really enjoyed the soundtracks to TSWLM (Marvin Hamlisch), FYEO (Bill Conti), and Goldeneye (Eric Serra). After CR, it is time for a change!
It´s great that Arnold uses OHMSS as template for CR. I also feel there is indeed a very strong link between both movies, maybe because they are different from the rest in that they´re more character defining.
