There's a new interview with Jon Favreau over at IGN in which he talks about Iron Man, the forthcoming DVD, and the inevitable sequel and how it fits into Marvel's long term strategy. He makes some interesting comments on the Demon in a Bottle storyline and how it may or may not happen. It's a pretty good read; here's the link:

It also had a guest appearance (I vaguely recall) by the Sub-Mariner so I wonder if he'll be woven into it seeing that Marvel is also aspiring to do the hero in his own film?
When it comes to waterlogged characters, Namor has to be the worst. Mr. Spock in tight chainmail speedos...with wing anklets and a demeanor that clearly stems from a lack of bran flakes.
I'd rather not have that image indelibly stuck in my head after two hours. )

It also had a guest appearance (I vaguely recall) by the Sub-Mariner so I wonder if he'll be woven into it seeing that Marvel is also aspiring to do the hero in his own film?
Favreau makes some good points about how Hancock may explore some of the themes of Demon in a Bottle. Personally, I really wouldn't mind at all if they skipped that part of the Stark's history.

Based on the interview, I think Favreau is well aware of the character's potential pitfalls and will hopefully steer clear of them. It'll be intertesting to see which direction the next movie does finally go in.

IESB is reporting that Marvel (specifically chairman David Maisel) is dragging their collective feet in signing John Favreau to do a sequel over disagreements as to what his director's fee should be. There also seems to be a difference of opinion between Marvel and Favreau as to when the next film should go into production. Favreau basically turned Marvel into a legitimate studio overnight with the positive response to Iron Man and it would be a shame if he and Marvel parted ways over money.
Some of this is actually corroborated by Favreau himself on his Myspace page and I can understand some of his concerns. Batman & Robin was fast-tracked by WB after Batman Forever performed exceptionally well at the box office, and we know how that turned out.
While it's never a good thing to completely bow to a director's vision (Batman Returns anyone?) I really hope that this doesn't turn ugly and that Marvel doesn't forget what brought them success with Iron Man in the first place.

Marvel isn't that stupid to spit in Favreau's face after what he's just delivered. Iron Man 2 will be made but I hope that they take the action up a notch and cast someone to play the awesome Mandarin.
Just not have him in the mold from the lame 90s cartoon. My son hates that one.

Oh yeah, I remember those comics from the 80s; I think I still have a few in my stash left. I wasn't too big a fan of those but John Byrne was drawing them so...
Despite a few of their characters being somewhat transient, Marvel & NYC are pretty much synomynous when it comes to comics. It just feels like a Stephen King novel based in Idaho instead of his signature New England state settings.
It was almost as bad when DC decided to move the JLA to a warehouse in Detroit and made Aquaman the leader. Like...OUCH.

There's a very extensive article on Iron Man in the July issue of Cinefex magazine. I was amazed at just how much CGI there was in the movie - including a lot of shots that I was sure were 100% live action.
There are also articles on Speed Racer, The Incredible Hulk and Prince Caspian in the current issue.
Cinefex is a little pricey ($12.50 per issue) and is only published quarterly, but it has some great photos that you never see in other publications and really in depth coverage of how special effects for today's biggest films are made. The magazine has been in publication for almost 30 years and is very highly recommended. You can find it a major bookstore chains like Barnes & Noble.

Has any legit news on when the DVD is coming out? I've heard from a few people that The Incredible Hulk will be available for sale September 30th so Iron Man should be ready before that.
Hopefully it'll be a two-disc.

There are persistent rumors that Iron Man will be relased on DVD and BluRay on September 30; Hulk will supposedly debut a few weeks later in early November.
Amazon.com already has a pre-order for the Iron Man BluRay up and they do list it as a "Special Collector's Edition".

After Iron Man premiered, my brother and I bought a couple of autograph cards - Downey & Favreau - and armor cards - the Mk I and Mk III (don't ask what we paid, it was obscene). I don't know what else is set in stone for 2010, but Iron Man's underway (unofficially) to make it by April 30th of that year. It would be nice to have the same kind of comic book summer like this year but I cannot wait for the sequel to this. It will be very interesting as to whom will be the next villian. B-)

The Los Angeles Times talked to Iron Man 2 director Jon Favreau, who says they have started working on the sequel:
I just talked to Jon Favreau a bit ago, and he said that while there hasn't been an formal announcement on the sequel to "Iron Man," he's begun developing it. "We're working on it now," he said, "which hasn't been officially announced. It will be released in 2010."
Marvel Studios and Paramount Pictures are targeting an April 30, 2010 release date in order to be the first film to kick-off that summer, much like Iron Man did on May 2nd of this year.
Justin Theroux (Tropic Thunder) is writing the script and in addition to Robert Downey Jr., the first film's co-stars Gwyneth Paltrow and Terrence Howard are expected to return as well.

Marvel seems keen on having Iron Man 2 start the 2010 summer movie season so I'm sure they'll do everything possible to make that April 30 date.
I've also read that Sony is shooting for a summer 2010 debut for the next Spiderman movie and that may yet have an impact on when Iron Man and other films finally debut. In hindsight, I have a feeling those release dates for Cap, the Avengers, etc. were born more out of the euphoria of Iron Man's spectacular opening weekend, probably as much for the benefit of investors and shareholders as anything else. The Incredible Hulk's more modest performance probably opened Marvel's eyes a bit to the fact that not every film they make will be a breakout hit.
It's going to take a lot of work to get these movies made well, and even more to get them to gel with one another as Marvel seems to be trying to do. Even Favreau has expressed doubts that April 30 is doable. Its great to have him aboard again, but I hope they don't get hung up on some arbitrary date just to make press.
Just seen it, the first 20 mins the most entertaining of any superhero film I've seen, plus you get some raunchy sex too... I mean on the screen, the Prince Charles usherette doesn't creep up in the dark with her torch...
I suppose it's unusual that the real-life alter ego is all fun and loud, usually there's a dual personality thing where he'll be a nerd like Clark Kent or Peter Parker.
Lovely cinematography makes this a joy to look at, something I'm always partial too. And great unexpected appearances - I'd forgot Gwyneth is in this and a relief to see her as just a secretary rather than some 'equal' for PC purposes. Terrific pithy dialogue too.
It threatens to get a bit worthy in the Afghanistan sections where he's captured and of course there's the problem that such superheroes are analogue in a digital age. I don't really believe an iron suit can withstand all that punishment, or Tony Stark's frequent falls from great heights. I'm not a kid and I think you really have to be to believe this stuff, there's no going back.
Of course, ultimately it seems Stark isn't against weapons at all, just the effective use of them. After all, the Iron Man suit is a weapon isn't it. The film sort of touches on this a bit, to be fair.
I never realised who the actor was playing Stark's partner on the board of Stark Enterprises, wow he's great. Downey is very good too though he is a bit similar to Clooney but Clooney had his shot with the woeful Batman and Robin.
Anyway, great fun. I reckon a remake of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang could learn from this, though if it's set in the present you couldn't really have a car looking like that.

The Afghanistan sequences were my biggest problem with the film. Obviously the major villain wasn't Muslim/Arab, which I appreciated, but in Afghanistan when he was captured, it threatened to turn too much into a US versus Islam type of thing (and, for that matter, the use of waterboarding probably wasn't such a great move.) I like the film alot, but IMO the Afghanistan section at the start was the fim's weakest section (although it did contain one of the film's best bits of dialogue; the references to the advances in technolgy.)
Downey is very good too though he is a bit similar to Clooney but Clooney had his shot with the woeful Batman and Robin.
I was never convinced, like so many critics, that Downey was this acting genius. However, I do think he's a very good actor (but similar to Clooney? You really come up with weird analogies ) ) and I like his work on this film.

Besides, Bennett's gain superpowers when his is fully charged. It's a no-brainer.

Maybe they're prepping for the West Coast Avengers movie we've all been waiting for. Of course, they'll need to make solo films for Mockingbird, Tigra, and Wonder Man first.
Oh yeah, I remember those comics from the 80s; I think I still have a few in my stash left. I wasn't too big a fan of those but John Byrne was drawing them so...
Despite a few of their characters being somewhat transient, Marvel & NYC are pretty much synomynous when it comes to comics. It just feels like a Stephen King novel based in Idaho instead of his signature New England state settings.
It was almost as bad when DC decided to move the JLA to a warehouse in Detroit and made Aquaman the leader. Like...OUCH.

Cinefex is a little pricey ($12.50 per issue) and is only published quarterly, but it has some great photos that you never see in other publications and really in depth coverage of how special effects for today's biggest films are made. The magazine has been in publication for almost 30 years and is very highly recommended. You can find it a major bookstore chains like Barnes & Noble.

Amazon.com already has a pre-order for the Iron Man BluRay up and they do list it as a "Special Collector's Edition".

Are you kidding me? I showed the pic to them this morning and they were practically ovulating over it.
They told me to tell you that you're not all bad but you still need guidance for loving DC and that Green Lantern is still quite lame.
BTW, bumping into one of them in the parking garage upon arriving to work, one of them showed me the picket signs in the trunk of their car for this weekend's... frivolities...
These guys are going to get t-tops carved in their heads if they go through with this...

They might get a few bat symbols carved into their foreheads as well if they're not careful. If they tried that in my neck of the woods we'd be reading about an "unfortunate incident" at the local cineplex the next day. :v
Even if the cops came to break it up, they'd take a few swings at those guys after they found out what all the ruckus was about.
I really, really wish I could get in touch with the producers of Scare Tactics to help set up a gag and straighten these idiots out...scare a woman into their arms and balance them out.

Needless to say, I'll be investing in the BluRay version as a high-tech film like this just begs for that high-def treatment. Really looking forward to seeing the movie again and checking out those 3D armors.

Favreau Gets to Work on Iron Man 2

The Los Angeles Times talked to Iron Man 2 director Jon Favreau, who says they have started working on the sequel:
I just talked to Jon Favreau a bit ago, and he said that while there hasn't been an formal announcement on the sequel to "Iron Man," he's begun developing it. "We're working on it now," he said, "which hasn't been officially announced. It will be released in 2010."
Marvel Studios and Paramount Pictures are targeting an April 30, 2010 release date in order to be the first film to kick-off that summer, much like Iron Man did on May 2nd of this year.
Justin Theroux (Tropic Thunder) is writing the script and in addition to Robert Downey Jr., the first film's co-stars Gwyneth Paltrow and Terrence Howard are expected to return as well.

Marvel seems keen on having Iron Man 2 start the 2010 summer movie season so I'm sure they'll do everything possible to make that April 30 date.
I've also read that Sony is shooting for a summer 2010 debut for the next Spiderman movie and that may yet have an impact on when Iron Man and other films finally debut. In hindsight, I have a feeling those release dates for Cap, the Avengers, etc. were born more out of the euphoria of Iron Man's spectacular opening weekend, probably as much for the benefit of investors and shareholders as anything else. The Incredible Hulk's more modest performance probably opened Marvel's eyes a bit to the fact that not every film they make will be a breakout hit.
It's going to take a lot of work to get these movies made well, and even more to get them to gel with one another as Marvel seems to be trying to do. Even Favreau has expressed doubts that April 30 is doable. Its great to have him aboard again, but I hope they don't get hung up on some arbitrary date just to make press.
I suppose it's unusual that the real-life alter ego is all fun and loud, usually there's a dual personality thing where he'll be a nerd like Clark Kent or Peter Parker.
Lovely cinematography makes this a joy to look at, something I'm always partial too. And great unexpected appearances - I'd forgot Gwyneth is in this and a relief to see her as just a secretary rather than some 'equal' for PC purposes. Terrific pithy dialogue too.
It threatens to get a bit worthy in the Afghanistan sections where he's captured and of course there's the problem that such superheroes are analogue in a digital age. I don't really believe an iron suit can withstand all that punishment, or Tony Stark's frequent falls from great heights. I'm not a kid and I think you really have to be to believe this stuff, there's no going back.
Of course, ultimately it seems Stark isn't against weapons at all, just the effective use of them. After all, the Iron Man suit is a weapon isn't it. The film sort of touches on this a bit, to be fair.
I never realised who the actor was playing Stark's partner on the board of Stark Enterprises, wow he's great. Downey is very good too though he is a bit similar to Clooney but Clooney had his shot with the woeful Batman and Robin.
Anyway, great fun. I reckon a remake of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang could learn from this, though if it's set in the present you couldn't really have a car looking like that.
