I've said this before, but I'm a big fan of Rourke, take that Tony, :v

IGN is also reporting that Scarlett Johansson has indeed signed on to play the Black Widow and, like Jackon, she supposedly has a multi-picture contract. (Scarlett is Black Widow)
About the only thing missing that would make this movie perfect is a cameo by Aunt May, who pops by to make Tony Stark some of her famous wheatcakes.

Not at all. As far as Mickey Rourke, I'm not wild about his off-screen antics but as long as he does a good job - and I know he can be a good actor when he wants to be - I'm fine with him being in the movie.
Scarlett is a hottie; looking forward to seeing her in Black Widow's skintight outfits and she's done action movies before so as long as she remains interested she'll be fine.
I've heard nothing from Sam Rockwell so I'm assuming he's still attached to the project as well. He's also a very good and versatile actor who can disappear into his roles.
Don Cheadle is another one of those solid, steady actors who always gives a good performance; I'm sure he'll be fine as Rhodie.
The addition of Jackson should shake things up; hopefully he'll have a little more to do than what they gave him in Iron Man. Something tells me this movie will serve to firm up S.H.I.E.L.D.'s presence in Marvel's overall design so I expect a couple of scenery chewing moments from him.
And of course Downey and Paltrow are already proven commodities in their respective roles.
All these actors have been in other movies that I enjoyed (even Rourke as I've always liked his performance in Angel Heart). Its a solid cast; it just needs a good script that will do them all justice.

Indeed. That's what it ultimately comes down to. Although I felt it was flawed, I loved the script to IM; hopefully they will not only match it but surpass it.

Iron Man 2 has officially started filming and there are already a couple of photos from the first day of shooting over at AICN. Not much to see, except Downey, who looks much like he did in the first film, and Don Cheadle in uniform as James Rhodes.
Scarlett Johansson increases my interest in IM2, having enjoyed IM, I am looking forward to the follow up. Really hoping we get an intelligent script, with no political agenda about war or weapons companies.
For any one interested, Johansson is very good, and quite sexy, in Woody Allen's Vicky Christina Barcelona,

Nice. Just curious, is someone going to start a Iron Man 2 thread now, or will the sequel talk continue in the original movie thread?
Personally, I think this is a good a thread as any to continue the conversation and it might actually be useful to be able to refer to discussions about the first movie for those who might come in late.

Gary Oldman in Iron Man 2?
Source:IESB April 8, 2009
According to IESB, The Dark Knight star Gary Oldman was spotted on the set of Iron Man 2. Does that confirm he has a role in the movie? We don't know.
Jon Favreau started filming the sequel on Monday for a May 7, 2010 release. It stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Jon Favreau, Mickey Rourke, Sam Rockwell, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Garry Shandling and John Slattery.
Howard Stark perhaps?

Last night I caught an early premiere of the new animated series Iron Man Adventures on Fios On Demand. My feelings are mixed on it really. Basically Tony Stark is not the mature, swinging billionaire playboy with goatee in this but more in the Peter Parker high school mode which was sort of a turn-off but the story kept me glued.
I'm a hand drawn animation type of guy and this is all digitally done. There nothing remotely organic about the art. Yet I couldn't help myself enjoying the plot. I'll give it a chance but I'm not a fan of the production; makes me appreciate the 90s series even more now. B-)
I really wish that Marvel would've taken the art direction more from Wolverine & The X-Men with this...

I haven't seen any episodes yet but I did see some clips and the music video. I don't mind the digitally rendered art in this case as it does sort of fit with the character: high tech art for a high tech hero. On the other hand I'm not wild about turning Stark into an adolescent. Its obviously skewed towards a younger audience but that really changes the dynamic of the character for me. Its too bad that Marvel doesn't realize that there is an adult audience for these animated shows and that they don't need to make everyone look like they're barely old enough to go to the prom. What's next, Emo Iron Man? 8-)

Just saw this. I think this is great news. I love Garry Shandling and I consider The Larry Sanders Show to be one of the greatest comedy series of all times. Additionally, his television appearances (many of which are on news related programmes) are often extremely funny. ) It's been years since I've seen him on screen, so this is yet another reason why I'm really looking forward to seeing this film.

The first official image from Iron Man 2 is up at USAToday, and here it is:
It looks like the Mark 1, Mark 2 and two versions of the Mark 3 armors. The beginning of Stark's famous "Hall of Armors" perhaps? The full article is here: Iron Man 2 at USAToday.com
The pic looks great to me although according to AICN some fanboys are already complaining because they say the look is exactly like the first movie. I really hate some of these fanboys sometimes; there is just no pleasing them.

And Batman Begins looked very much the same as The Dark Knight-so what ?:) ? I mean as far as the eye can interpret, wouldn't the fanboys want consistency?. I love that pic and I'm getting excited to see this being that this summer's flock of entertainment will pale to 2008 on a whole IMO.
I hope to be in theatres come premiere weekend for this next year. B-)
My only concern is Cheadle as Rhodey seeing that Michael Jai White would've looked more the part. Rhodey's supposed to be a muscular type guy with a deep voice and Cheadle is neither. At least from years of reading IM, that's what I've always thought.
Please have Dum Dum Dugan in this, Marvel.

When it comes to the fanboys, there is just no pleasing some of them. I also love how they can already come to all sorts of conclusions from just one small picture. Hopefully the first Iron Man movie was enough of a breakout hit with mainstream audiences.
I don't know about Dum Dum Dugan but according to the USAToday article S.H.I.E.L.D. will have a more prominent role and agent Colson from the first movie will be returning as well (same actor too, though his name escapes me right now).
I think Cheadle will be fine; I saw some candid pics from the set of him in uniform and he looked like he'd buffed up significantly.

Cool pic; the armor looks subtly different from the Mark III with the ARC Reactor looking more recessed in the chest piece. The missing pieces and bands on the arms and legs suggest that part of the suit will be motion captured and rendered with CGI.
There are also more shots of Downey in the suit and a couple of pics of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury (looking very much like he did at the end of the first movie) here: More Iron Man and Nick Fury Pics
