Summarising CR reviews

In due course the site will be deluged by reviews for Casino Royale.

Some of these will be pretty wordy, with variable quality control.

Could SiCo or a mod maybe have a feature after a fortnight that lifts soundbites from the best reviews to give an overall picture, to save newcomers from scrolling down, say, 20 or 30 pages picking the wheat from the chaff and going off onto agreable sidetracks as our threads are wont to do...

It would also be helpful for visiting journos; it could also review the reception on other sites like empireonline.co.uk, mi6.co.uk forum and commander bond et al, using quotes.

The DAD review thread got unwieldy, and then ditched, perhaps CR's summary could be kept for posterity until the next Bond film. It would save new posters coming up with those inevitable threads: "So what did you think of Casino Royale?"

Yes I like this idea, however I would like it to be user fed. I will work on it asap and provide a small form for adding quotes from reviews. If this is what you would like.

    Brilliant idea.

Yes, cheers SiCo. Again, I'd like a mod to look over it so it is balanced and so on. Not just any contributor cutting and pasting huge chunks.

Perhaps a seperate forum or thread for actual reviews from the printed press... as opposed to us grotty posters!

Volunteers please for those who would like to add fair reviews they find around the internet.

Short snippets not longer than about 30 characters, will take absolutely no time out of your day but will help many members and visitors.

Let me know here or PM me.

This may be too much, but what if we added a "Review a Bond film" feature to everyone's profile (or if everyone's is too much, maybe a select few) where they can rate and review all the Bond films on this site. Then every once in awhile, those reviews would be featured!

That will be done in the future as part of the site upgrades (hopefully) but not immediatly. This idea is simply to summarise the CR reviews from all over the web and print and anywhere for that matter.

This is probably a dumb question, Boss, but wouldn't it be more simple to just create a link to the CR page on Rottentomatoes.com? RT does just what you are proposing to do--post snippets of all the web reviews they can find. Most of the snippets are actually links to entire reviews that you can read. Just wonderin'. . . 8-)

i would also like a clear review marking as well so as not to spoil too much for those of us who have to wait till december or later to see it on the big screen

Well my intention in proposing this is that it would be full of spoilers actually, so yes have a spoiler alert.

Personally I don't see the point of reading reviews that are bound to have loads of spoilers to illustrate points of praise or complaint.

Otherwise, have a thumbs up thumbs down spoiler-free thread for those who haven't seen it, in tandem with a poll.

With CR being realeased on Thursday, obviously those members who are able to see it will want to discuss the film in detail. There are many members, however, such as myself, who have to wait until much later to see the film. I am however still interested in what other members think of the film. Would it be possible to have a single thread dedicated to quick spoiler-free reviews by members. For example, does the member like the film? Does s/he like Craig? etc... However in this thread, members can't go into detail. They can then talk as much about the film as they desire in some of the other threads.

Also, and this probably won't happen, but just in case, would it be possible to still insist that thread titles not include spoilers. For example, if there's a thread dedicated to the ending, can the title be 'what do you think about the ending?' rather than 'What do you think about the suicide of Le Chiffre?' (or something like that.)

And when they start not smiling back—that’s an earthquake. and then you get yourself a couple of spots on your hat, and you’re finished. Nobody dast blame this man. A salesman is got to dream, boy. It comes with the territory." Death of a Salesman

Great point, Dan. For what it's worth, I would also ask Si and the Mods to be extra vigilant in trying to police spoilers, or at least keep them in an isolated place. I know this is asking a lot, given all the effort you already put into the site. From my end, I will be vigilant in trying to avoid places on the board where spoilers may be, until I have seen the film. Thanks!

I have created two new topics in the Casino Royale forum.

One for [topic=27098]Full Reviews[/topic] and one for [topic=27097]Spoiler Free Quick Reviews[/topic].

We will try our best to keep on top of spoilers, but as you well know this can be very difficult. I urge everyone to use the spoiler tag which is available when posting a new topic.
