Plus a horse-like smile and baby teeth. Of course you picked one of the better pics... 8-)

I was going strictly by Shooter's pic. She did look a little "lacking" above the waist but the face seemed nice, from pic that anyway. Didn't bother to Google her ( I don't know why, but that has a lecherous sound to it ;% ).

Catherine Bell from Jag was always somebody I could have pictured as WW - she still looks great although she's probably pushing 40 by now and could probably only get away with one or two movies if they started filming right away.

I never said that the girl I posted earlier was my choice, just what was reported via a comic site.

I love ya, man...we just don't see eye to eye on what we define as "beauty" :))

I suppose you're right about the chest thing, but it is important to get a woman with the right hair and a strong, but attractive face.

As I said before, there are VERY FEW women who could pull it off.

I did a Google image search on Cobie Smulders myself, and she looks pretty hot to me. The worst thing about her, I think, is her name, which sounds like some kind of tropical disease.

I'm beginning to think that the only thing the producers of this Wonder Woman (and the ones who are helming Shazam!) can do is go for a complete unknown, someone who looks so much like the comic book character that all fans will be able to do is sit back and say, "Wow!" After all, it worked with Christopher Reeve and Lynda Carter!

Of course as we all know, padding can always give a woman a larger breastline. For example, look at Angelina Jole in the first Tomb Raider(For all I know you probably hate this movie, but this is only an illustration)--the filmmakers extended her rack by at least two more sizes.

And it's not as if Wonder Woman will ever be running around topless.Although that'd certainly be interesting...;)

There's an actress named Blythe Metz who says that she'd like to play Wonder Woman. In fact, she's even posed in a few pictures as WW, and looks pretty good in the costume.I've seen her act and think she might be talented enough to pull it off-has a kind of Andrea Parker type of persona/style.

The actress who starred in the 2001 Black Scorpion TV series--Michele Lintel--had,IMO, all of the necessary qualities to play WW(beautiful, talented, almost 6'tall,dark-haired,former beauty queen and an expert kick boxer) but I understand that she recently retired from acting--and she's only in her early 30s.She might be the WW who got away.

That said,I'm sure there are plenty of beautiful and talented actresses unknown (and relatively unknown) who could be made to look like Wonder Woman and could probably play the part well, but I'm not at all sure Joel Silver's looking for them. And if that's true, then that's just too bad.

And as Tony's already pointed out, doing a modern day take on WW sounds like a bomb waiting to happen(anybody else remember the Cathy Lee Crosby WW TV movie?:o).

If anyone's really, seriously, interested in doing a possible series of WW movies,it only stands to reason--IMO,anyway--that the first movie be a period piece showcasing her origin and earliest missions during WWII.Any following films can put her in the present day .

According to the reviewer over on Latino Review, the alternate WW screenplay WB recently purchased(and filed away), is absolutely perfect for launching a WW franchise.Apparently it details WW's origin and establishes all of the pertinent stuff(costume, plane,Amazons,Steve Trevor,WWII,etc)with ease. With the advances in CGI,it'd be filmable and probably not as expensive as it might've been, say, 10 years ago.

I'd sure hate to learn that most of the producers in Hollywood shy away from making even escapist movies featuring Nazis as their villains, because they think that Steven Spielberg has a monopoly on them.

And I really don't want to sound like a downer, but I don't think this film will ever be made, because I doubt Silver really knows what to do with this particular character. It seems pretty obvious that he wanted to have a Superman/Batman-like franchise of his own, and thought Wonder Woman would be easy to put on the screen.Little did he know. With all respect,Silver probably couldn't be paid to look at a comic book, or do anything to learn even the most insignificant information about WW.

That Sandra Bullock was once his first choice to play WW,says a lot to me...

I just had to look, Willie, and now I have to share:

The costume's pretty much of the Hallowe'en variety, but shedoes fill it rather nicely. She also looks a bit like Rose McGowan. Wonder how soon ol' machine-gun leg is tipped for the role?

Now that you mention it,I can see the Rose McGowan resemblance too,but most of it's in the expression and the camera angle. They really don't look at all alike.

Y'know,I've read that Ms.Metz had some footage shot of herself in action as WW and that it is/was on YouTube. She's really campaigning for this part-homemade costume and all.Metz probably won't get to play WW, but at least she's interested and enthusiastic.I think it only stands to reason that there are probably plenty of other equally attractive young women who'd be every bit as interested in playing this role. That said,I'm convinced there are some gals who are absolutely perfect for WW out there in Hollywood just waiting to be noticed.

But back to Rose--It's entirely possible she'll be at least considered for WW, now that Grindhouse has given her plenty of exposure as an action babe. She's certainly pretty and is a good actress.Silver could do much worse(like going with Katharine McPhee, for instance, who claims she turned the WW part down).

It's unfortunate beautiful Carla Gugino isn't about 10 years younger and several inches taller--because otherwise she'd have been a pretty good WW candidate...

McGowan still looks like the type of girl you call at 3 in the morning when you're struggling with a touch of uh... "insomnia" ? ;)

She just looks like the type of female that is purely used for the gratification of others to me. And I'd be one of the guys in that line but she's not WW material.

I too don't love her. I have never read the comics, although I did see a few episodes of the TV show, and WW has always struck me as a very powerful woman; certainly having more power than McGowan is able to project IMO.

But back to Blythe Metz--I think her Wonder Woman submission on YouTube is excellent. She certainly looks like the character to me, and having seen her in a few films on cable,I know that she's also got the acting talent to handle this role.

Of course,Silver will ignore this along with other WW aspirants.Eventually he'll cancel the WW film.He can say the public was tired of these types of movies however,I predict that the biggest excuse offered will be that he simply couldn't find an actress who could play this part(i.e.:"We looked everywhere but there just isn't anybody in the business who can do Wonder Woman justice.")The usual crock.

Or,he'll decide to overhaul the character radically in order to make it something someone who is absolutely unsuited to the part can play it with ease.

Whatever.Hopefully an alert producer or casting agent will come across Metz's Wonder Woman "audition", and it'll help her get a foot in the door so she'll get a chance at some important roles that'll take full advantage of her looks and acting ability.

I saw this on CNN this afternoon:

David Goyer Comments on Super Max
Source: Advanced Dark April 10, 2007

David Goyer has commented on his new project, Super Max, in which Green Arrow will be sent to prison where he will have to face a number of inmates he put there and try to escape. Here's his post from MySpace:

Is it real? The answer is "YES", it's a real project. It's just in the early stages of development, but amongst the tidal wave of super-hero movies hitting the screen, this more classically post-modern take could be pretty damn fun.

The basic concept actually came about through Justin Marks, a terrific young writer my wife Jessika (a producer) had previously worked with. They thought the idea of a prison-break story set in a jail designed exclusively for super-villains was a cool one. And I heartily agreed. After some discussion, we decided it would be fun to frame a super-hero and toss him into the meta-human mix.

From that point, it seemed like the next logical step was to set the film in either the Marvel or DC Universe. That way, we could populate the movie with all sorts of cool B and C-character Easter Eggs. We eventually landed at DC. Green Arrow, given his hard-hitting, moralistic tendencies, seemed like the most interesting hero to put through the institutional wringer.

I'll keep you posted as things develop.

I'd read about this too. The basic premise behind Goyer's script is that in the first 10 minutes of the movie, Ollie Queen is framed for some crime, captured, his secret identity is revealed to the world, his costume and arrows taken away, his goatee shaved off, and he's then thrown into a supermax prison populated by second and third tier DC baddies. That's the last you see of the classic Green Arrow. The rest of the film is about his attempt to escape by making allegiances with some of the people he had locked up.

Frankly, I don't like this idea one bit - it smacks of second rate superhero deconstruction, which I positively HATE. It sounds almost like the inverse of Smallville - instead of seeing a superhero before he becomes a superhero, we see him stripped of everything that makes him a superhero. Take away the goatee, the bow and arrows, the costume and Ollie's penchant for womanizing and you really don't have Green Arrow anymore. It sounds more like The Fugitive to me. I thought the essence of Green Arrow was about helping the downtrodden, not a theatrical version of Prison Break.

The way I see it, this is further evidence that Goyer's script for Batman Begins was really a fluke or actually written by someone else.
  • darenhatdarenhat The Old PuebloPosts: 2,029Quartermasters
Agreed. Sounds like someone wants to make a 'superhero' movie but with only a token 'superhero' appearance. While it sounds like a nifty concept, the whole superhero angle is only thrown in there to justify the elaborate prison setting. Once the idea of the prison is established, they throw out every recognizable vestige of what the fans would want to see.

    Kurt Sutter Talks Punisher 2
Source: Advanced Dark April 11, 2007

    Punisher 2 (Update)

As many of you know news leaked out earlier this week that Kurt Sutter (The Shield) was involved in writing the script for the new sequel to the 2004 film..."The Punisher". I asked him about that and with his permission...here's most of what he had to say:

"I'm a huge fan of the character. frank castle is a complex, tortured badass. i had a blast writing the script. working with good producers (gale ann hurd, ari arad) and smart studio execs (john sacchi) made it an enjoyable gig.

hoping this movie satisfies the rabid fanbase. the comic-lovers sect is a discriminating, well-informed, don't-f***-with-our-world group of folks. i'd hate to land on their bad side. unfortunately for the writer, what's on the page and what lands on the screen can be two totally different things. once we type "the end" that pretty much sums up our control."

    -Kurt Sutter

I cannot wait for the sequel personally; my son and I met Thomas Jane face to face last year and he comes across as a great guy. He even took the time out of his busy schedule (despite his entourage trying to rush him off to the next engagement) to talk to my kid in a lengthy manner and autographed his skull t-shirt.

Anyone care for Punisher 1? Despite bad reviews, I rather enjoyed it. If I had any critiques from it, I'd say that it was an odd choice of locale to put Castle in Florida but it's okay because his character pretty much does damage worldwide in the comics.

Yeah, I can respect that, H.B. Afterall I've heard many viewers like yourself state the same thing. It's true that it could've been better on so many levels but from all the descriptions that you've given are the very reasons why it was pretty enjoyable to me. I know I'm of the minority who actually enjoyed the cheaper Dolph Lundgren version as well.

Unlike many of the Marvel heroes, there isn't a very bright window surrounding the mythos of The Punisher. He's walking doom & gloom.

I mean how colorful can one get with the character and keep his conviction for killing plausible?

I would like to have the classic skull logo back though. ;)

I liked it, but only to a certain point. I thought it was well done for what it was and I thought the performances were good all around. Thomas Jane did a good job with the lead and it was very satisfying to see Saint's world fall apart bit by bit by bit. But as HB says, it was a very dark and downbeat movie and as such it just doesn't hold up to repeated viewings for me.

Setting it in Florida was all wrong though. Punisher belongs in the seedy back alleys of New York, not tearing up fancy clubs and expensive beachside houses.

A lot of media outlets including Variety are reporting that Edward Norton has been signed to play Bruce Banner in the next Hulk movie. The film, based on a screenplay by Zak Penn, will be directed by Louis Leterrier and opening June 13, 2008.

I'm not too sure about this movie. I can't say I've care much for Leterrier's films to date and Zak Penn's last couple of genre scripts - Fantastic Four and Electra - were pretty weak. Also, according to Variety the film will be "less self-serious and more in line with the comic series and TV show". An odd thing to say since the TV show was serious to the point of being grim most of the time and had little in common with the comic.

I thought it was quite good. Jane was convincing and there were some nice touches. Particularly the musician/hitman, and the huge Russian assassin. Mind you, my tastes regarding this character may be questionable. I also liked the Dolph Lundgren version. :))
