Take your pick.At least the Affleck DD looks more like the character than the version Rex Smith played on that The Incredible Hulk TV movie.Of course, anything would have.

    Anything, W.G.? :D

This is DD after one lobster dinner too many?I think this fellow's pretty daring in his own way just to be seen in broad daylight in this costume.Despite the outfit's comic book accuracy,it's wearer makes Rex Smith in his ninja-inspired outfit look fantastic.

Y'know,I remember reading about how so many alterations to Smith's DD costume were dictated by the network. The first thing to go was the horns. Then the color red. Then there was something else, until only the DD name and the basic origin survived.Too bad.And this was a pilot for a DD TV show.

Sad thing about those episodes was I used to boast to my kid just how awesome I thought they were but bear in mind, I was recalling in kid mode not having seen them in years... :))

Funny how our brains "fill in the gaps". I had that epiphany when I saw some of those old Spiderman shows with Nicholas Hammond - as a kid they were beyond cool and I could never figure out why CBS wouldn't just make it a regular show. As an adult, I saw the wire when Spidey was climbing up walls and the matte shots when Spiderman "jumps" between buildings were ultra-cheesy.

At least Wonder Woman had Lynda Carter - she could make me look past bad FX and silly plots by just standing there.

Oh, and for the record, that pic of the guy in the Daredevil outfit from "Spandexwear.com" is one of the most pathetic things I've ever seen. He just looks so sad under that mask :))

As bad as that movie was, it was still fun to watch in an Ed Wood kind of way. Watching the beach bum wrestle with Thorspeak ("Come troll, they have Banner's Woman!") was a hoot.

Mayor Not Pushing Back Superman Sequel
    Source: IESB.net July 7, 2007

Earlier this month, it was reported that The Mayor of Castro Street producers Neil Meron and Craig Zadan said their Bryan Singer-directed film on gay rights activist Harvey Milk would be shot after Singer finishes filming Valkyrie. Not so fast, say the folks working on the Superman Returns sequel.

"That's total horse sh*t," said a source within Singer's camp for IESB.net. "I would say the same thing if I was producing that film but don't you realize that most of the 'Superman' producers are working with Bryan on 'Valkyrie'? Gil Adler and Chris Lee both are in Germany with Bryan and I can guarantee you that there is some work being done with 'Superman' right now."

The current plan is to start shooting the Superman Returns sequel by the summer of 2008.

Times like this, I wish I was a Sith... X-(

Here's an article talking about superhero movie sequels and spin-offs that may or may not get greenlit. I can never really read into much when it comes to how a studio is thinking but I feel that FF3 is on the fence right now, with its questionable b.o. take, but I think that there might be an SM4...Don't know why.

    Spider-Man 4, Wolverine and Superman 2 Updates
Source: The Hollywood Reporter July 10, 2007

The Hollywood Reporter has published a great article talking about how studios are hunting for the next big property. The feature includes updates on Spider-Man 4, Wolverine, The Silver Surfer, the Superman Returns sequel and much more. Here are clips from the piece:

At some point within the next two weeks, producer Laura Ziskin and the top brass of Sony Pictures Entertainment will sit down together for the first time since "Spider-Man 3" opened May 4 to discuss the franchise's future.

It's a crucial meeting, all the more so because director Sam Raimi will be there. And Raimi, who has sent contradictory messages about his future plans, might at last indicate whether he'll helm the next installment.

"It would be great to have everybody back," Ziskin says. "But no one is going to sign on the dotted line until we have a script. These are the questions being discussed now. The one thing we have answered definitively is: There will be more 'Spider-Man' movies. We just haven't answered what shape they will come in and (Sony) hasn't given us a release date."

The upcoming meeting "will be the first step in a process," Ziskin adds. "'Spider-Man' will continue; I can't tell you every person who will be involved."

It goes without saying just how critical the "Spider-Man" franchise is to the studio's bottom line; at press time, the franchise had netted upwards of $2 billion in boxoffice receipts, not to mention home video revenue and other income from ancillary ventures. But it is hardly unique in today's Hollywood.

At Fox, 2006's "X-Men: The Last Stand" appears to have concluded the franchise -- at least in its present form. Instead, the studio is developing two possible spin-offs: "Wolverine," starring Hugh Jackman, and "Magneto," which would follow the character portrayed by Ian McKellen as a much younger man.

Also at Fox, the future of "Fantastic Four" is unclear after the second installment, "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer," dropped 66% in its second weekend, following an exceptional $58.1 million opening. Fox is developing a "Silver Surfer" follow-up and is considering another "Fantastic Four" sequel, but no script is in development, sources say. (Fox's surprise success "Live Free or Die Hard," showed the long-term value of the best franchises.)

The studio has been so eager to get "Wolverine" out next year that it has committed to go into production the instant Jackman finishes Baz Luhrmann's epic romance "Australia," which Fox is tentatively set to release next year. "The idea is, they can finish him out in September or October and put this one on the fast track so they can get it out next summer," says one source.

For the time being anyway, it seems that "Wolverine" is the best hope for continuing the "X-Men" movie franchise. "There is no script for an 'X-Men 4,' and there is none in the works," avers producer Lauren Shuler Donner.

The future of the studio's recent comic book adaptation, 2006's "Superman Returns," is somewhat more dubious. That film cost $209 million (even after various tax rebates) and marketing costs sent expenses upward of $300 million, but director Bryan Singer's Man of Steel picture made only $201 million domestically. While insiders say the movie was profitable, the studio mandated major cost cuts before proceeding with a sequel.

"If we do a sequel to 'Superman,' we want it to be less expensive," Horn acknowledges. "I have to see a screenplay before I say yes to anything. But the studio would be willing to spend as much as $175 million if the screenplay and other factors warranted it."

Still, Singer has announced that he plans to direct a second "Superman" project.

It is unforgivable that Spiderman 2--probably the best comic book movie ever made--is nowhere on the list, and that the godawful Constantine made it. And what about V for Vendetta? Who put this list together--a bunch of manatees?

I agree, (though I did enjoy Constantine) but V for Vendatta AND From Hell (both by Alan Moore) were really good. And I'm sorry to hardcore Batman fans out there (and Tim Burton) but the only one that didn't completely suck for me and wasn't campy, badly written or gay looking was Batman Begins. They may have changed the origin story in a lot of ways but it was way better than the crap put out earlier (why Joel Schumacher, why???) I think Sin City was great (though I think Frank Miller is over rated) and how can you leave out 300!!!! It was a visual masterpiece! I think that there are a lot of great comic book movies like Ghost in Shell (animated), The Crow and American Splender that at least deserve an honorable mention.

You definetely know your stuff with the Miller statement because lately I agree but this list was compiled long before 300 hit theatres.

I'm sure before the year is out, it'll change. ;)

The problem with Frank Miller is that while he accomplished his greatness by writing the Dark Night series of Batman, his dialogue is often inappropriate to the people speaking it and can be very stupid sounding. You don't catch it in Sin City because of the context of the movie but in 300 (which to me is still wicked awesome) there are moments where you say to yourself, "They didn't talk like that or use that type of slang in that time period, wtf?" I understand why he does it (so people aren't intimidated by "smartspeak" and it makes the characters easier to identify with) but I think that people expect characters to speak a certain way depending on their context.

Kevin Spacey Set for Superman Sequel
    Source: Variety July 11, 2007

Kevin Spacey will return as Lex Luthor in Superman: Man of Steel and appear in Telstar, Nick Moran's film version of Moran and James Hicks' 2005 darkly comic West End play about flamboyant '60s record mogul Joe Meek.

Variety says that "Superman" director Bryan Singer met with Spacey in New York while the latter was appearing on Broadway in Eugene O'Neill's recently wrapped "Moon for the Misbegotten." Singer was about to pitch his "Man of Steel" sequel to Warner Bros.; Superman Returns screenwriter Michael Dougherty is now writing the screenplay.

After Singer completes Valkyrie and The Mayor of Castro Street, he plans to start production on "Man of Steel" next year for a 2009 release.

Spacey hopes to shoot his Luthor role in a six-week block, as he did on Superman Returns, after he completes his run in David Mamet's Speed the Plow in April.

This week, Spacey joined the cast of Telstar, which started filming Monday in London. Meek is the gay, tone deaf songwriter-producer who produced hits including "Have I the Right," "Just Like Eddie," "Johnny, Remember Me" and the instrumental "Telstar." Con O'Neill reprises his stage role as Meek; Spacey plays his financier, Major Banks.

According to IGN, the Superman Returns sequel is far from a sure thing and high level execs have said that nothing will be greenlighted without a very solid script and more controls on cost. Clearly Singer does not have carte blanche this time around and I still wouldn't be surprised if he walks before all is said and done.

Thanks for the article, man. I want to believe that Warner doesn't want Singer to do another one and that's why they're dragging their heels on production - just a gut feeling of mine.

And why does Lex have to be in every Superman installment? He wasn't shown that much in the animated series of the 90s; why must we endure him again and his real estate fantasies? :#

I think SR (warts and all) would have been much more profitable if not saddled with the overhead of extended development hell (the Kevin Smith script, etc). If the rumour about the studio being willing to spend $175m has anything to it, a good 'Man of Steel' script might tip the scales...But I'm with Rogue in the sense that (although I love Spacey) surely there's someone else to oppose the Big Boy Scout...

One gets the sense that Warner wants to be more competitive with the surging Marvel Films juggernaut...and one Batman pic every three years isn't enough.

Superhero movies are too big a revenue stream to pass up. Even the "relatively disappointing" Spiderman 3 has made around 800 million worldwide. So I don't think WB is going to bury Superman. But they do need to make him more hip and accessible to today's younger audience. And I don't think making him a single father and having him deal with natural disasters is the best way to accomplish that. WB probably feels the same way. They've seen all the money the action-heavy comics movies rake in and they're not blind to what puts bums in seats. The way I see it, they'll give Singer his shot at a script and if he continues in the same vein, they'll nix it and give the property to someone else.

I like Spacey alot but I hated him in SR. Alot of people blame poor Kate Bosworth, however I put all the blame on Spacey. I think that Lex Luther is a fantastic character and I loved Gene Hackman in the original films, but I think that Spacey's Luthor was so boring that he dragged the entire film down with him. I know it's not saying much since the film wasn't that great anyway, but Luther in SR really bored me. The only moment that I found him to be remotely exciting was when he gave his wig to the girl. That was a great moment IMO which could have led to a legendary villainous performance but was instead IMO merely the most memorable moment in the entire film. I have no problem with Bosworth (whom I quite liked) and Routh (he gets the job done) returning, but NOT KEVIN SPACEY!! :'(
