Okay, tonight I was watching the Justice League episode in which they assist Warlord. Out of the blue, I get a call from one of my Marvel fanboy co-workers (instead of him being out on a date) crying foul that DC hacked from Iron Man with S.T.R.I.P.E. It didn't help that my son was taking his side as well; it's a no-brainer who he loves. :))

I told them both that maybe Marvel hacked some instances from S.T.R.I.P.E. seeing that he was created over 20 years before Stark and was a member of The Seven Soldiers Of Victory. After proving this, the look of shock on my son's face was priceless- he really thought he had me and I am sure I'll get an earful tomorrow at work with the other guy. :))

    Star_spangled_kid_and_stripe.jpg

It was like they were on mental link or something. I swear this is an on-going war for me...Fanboys attacking me from all sides like this and not just these two. :))

Check out the trailer for the new Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon. The art style looks alot like what was used in the Iron Man animated film just a few months ago...

DC and Marvel have been ripping each other off for years; make sure to tell them the golden rule: when you steal from one source it's plagarism, when it's more than one, it's research.

As for me, there are characters in both universes that I love, and characters I could do without. I almost wish the two companies would just merge, streamline their rosters, and go forward with the coolest characters each has to offer. In fact, as soon as I become Supreme Ruler of the Galaxy (any day now) I'll have to make that one of my top priorities.

BTW, did your fanboy co-workers have a group orgasm after seeing the Iron Man footage. {:)

On one of the fanboy's desks, Cable statue has been replaced with 90s Shellhead.

They're trying to force me into betting on next summer's blockbusters.

Well, I can't knock them for replacing Cable with Iron Man; I approve of that swap wholeheartedly. I must also confess to doing a certain amount of wiping myself, figuratively speaking of course.

As for IM and TDK, I'm really not sure which one is going to come out on top; it will definitely be interesting, especially if Nolan pulls a Tim Burton and wanders too far off from the established look and mythos of the Batbooks. Next summer is also going to be very top heavy with genre movies and I hope they don't all cannibalize one another and burn each other out. It'll be fun for folks like us, but nerve-wracking for the studio suits.

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing an entirely new creative team take a stab at Spiderman. I thought the three movies pretty much told us everything we needed to know about these characters; and with Harry's death and Peter & MJ cementing their relationship, it's a good place for Raimi, Maguire and Co. to step away and give it to somebody else to run with. After all, how many more times can they dredge up the ghost of Uncle Ben or have Aunt Mae give Peter sage, motherly advice, or have Peter & MJ wrestle with their relationship. While I don't think a complete reboot is necessary, some fresh faces might give a future film a bit more freedom to juggle things around a bit.

For me, I just hope a future Spiderman film has fewer villains, less crying, no musical / dance numbers, better pacing, and a running time under 2 hours.

And I wouldn't mind if they lost the old bag. :p

Why don't they completely recast and do Ultimate Spiderman? Spiderman would be younger, but the story would be updated and I think could be better. Aunt May is certainly less annoying. I just bought 16 volumes of the comic, and so far they are fantastic. Some really cool stories that I think could translate well to film.

    George Miller Directing Justice League?
    Source: Latino Review, Collider.com August 2, 2007

Latino Review and Collider.com have learned that Happy Feet director George Miller is interested in helming Warner Bros. Pictures' Justice League of America. The latter site adds:

The next thing I've heard is which Superheroes might be in the running for the first big budget team-up movie. They would be Superman, Batman, The Flash, Wonder Woman and the Green Lantern.

I've also heard from sources that the "Justice League" film is more of a priority for WB than the sequel to "Superman," so don't be surprised if you see Brandon Routh in "Justice League" before any new "Superman" film.

It was announced in February that writing duo Kiernan and Michele Mulroney were hired to pen the script.

I'd love to see a JLA movie - and Darkseid and his minions would be the perfect foil. I just hope they use Hal Jordan; with my luck it will be John Stewart (who be the first guy to get knocked out in every other scene) or Guy Gardner (who will be relegated to comic relief).

I'd like to see Hal Jordan as well, but with MY luck, they'll probably use Kyle Whatzisname.(Possible comments from the screenwriters:"We wanted Green Lantern to appeal to the younger audiences and our research told us that a fearless decorated Air Force fighter pilot/test pilot just skewed too OLD.Kyle Rayner,on the other hand,is ideal for our market. We've made a few improvements however, because who in their right minds can identify with an artist? Our Kyle is a teenager and a street-smart rapper.People can relate to him.")

I think Green Lantern (the Hal Jordan version)deserves his own movie.I'd hate to see him get lost in a crowd of superheroes.Really...if Ghost Rider warrants a movie, then surely Green Lantern does too.Hopefully Nic Cage won't wind up playing him...)

The thought of Nicholas Cage reciting the Green Lantern Oath is too horrifying to contemplate; knowing Cage, he'd probably do an Elvis on it. Thanks a lot WG, I'll now have to add "Bringer of Nightmares" to your formidable list of talents. ;)

The time really is prime for a GL film!!! Give me Matt Damon as Jordan, and if Nic Cage needs to be in it...make him Sinestro (have you seen him as Fu Manchu in the trailer for She-Wolves of the S.S. in the film Grindhouse? Classic!!), Verne Troyer as a Guardian (or all of them a la the Oompa Loompas in Charlie and the Chocolate factory), and hell, throw in Michael Chiklis as Kilowog (kidding!)

Just hearsay for now but someone has posted what may be interesting news on the Superman followup...

Two Villains in Superman: Man of Steel
Source: The Planet August 4, 2007

A user on BlueTights' The Planet Forum got a chance to meet Superman: Man of Steel co-writer Michael Dougherty at the U.S. Capitol and asked him about the sequel:

I asked him if he was a part of the sequel because everything I have seen says [Bryan] Singer and [Dan] Harris are writing the script and that he isn't mentioned. He confirmed that he is writing it with the two just like the last picture. I then expressed to him that I was hoping the delays of Superman: The Man of Steel weren't true. He said that they were on track and that the goal is still to have the movie out in the Summer of 2009. He seemed a little hesitant about it but did his best to try and reassure that it will get done by then. I asked if he could give any more info on the film. He responded, "There are TWO villains," and he smiled.

Brandon Routh is returning in the title role for the Warner Bros. release.

More than one villian (which can always be dicey under these circumstances) and Singer likely to run the show again... If this holds any credence, knowing Singer he'll bring Zodd back as one of them. Wasn't it reported that he was seen having lunch with Orlando "I Can't Stop Staring At My Beauty In A Mirror" Bloom? Jude Law already turned him down; it makes sense that he'd go to the well again.

If only I had a Phantom Zone projector on the set of M.O.S. the moment Singer yells 'Action!" pointing in his direction... :v

I have to disagree with you here. Say what you want about Dunst, but IMO Tobey Maguire IS Spiderman and, if the fourth film is not some kind of prequel, then I would hope that Maguire plays Spidey. It would be like making a fifth Superman film in the late 80's/ early 90's without Christopher Reeve; IMO Maguire is that good.

:)) I completely agree with you on this. IMO (and I know you disagree with me on this ;)) the second film got the emotional content just right but the third film went waay overboard. :# I will never forgive Raimi for the bad Peter's haircut. X-(

Actually Rogue, I'm pretty sure this story has been floating around for a while as an early draft script for S:TMOS had Brainiac and Metallo as the bad guys. I'll believe it when I see it as the WB suits have said again and again that nothing will be greenlighted without a script in hand. Add to that the fact the the Justice League movie seems to be gaining steam by the day and I think Singer has his work cut out for him to get the green light.

I don't know Dan, Maguire has really worn out his welcome for me. If some of the stores I've heard are to be believed, scenes like the infamous dance number were inserted into the movie to give him a chance to "act" and "show his range". If he really feels the need to justify his participation in these movies by adding those cornball scenes, then I think the series is better off without him.

I also think the creative team behind the scenes needs to be completely overhauled. Think about this for a second: what was the climax of Spiderman? Answer: our hero must save MJ from the clutches of the Green Goblin as he tries to save the kiddies in the tram. How about Spiderman 2? He must save MJ from the clutches of Dock Ock while also destroying his energy machine. And Spiderman 3? He must save MJ from the clutches of Sandman and Venom. Talk about repeating yourself and not having any new ideas.

Dump them all I say, and start fresh. Or give it to Bryan Singer; it seems to me Peter and MJ are overdue to have a spider-baby. :p

Gee,it all sounds very imaginative to me.

Wow!!!!General Zod returns! Can't wait to see that!Ursa probably won't come back though--as much as she'll be sorely missed by everyone--because knowing Singer, even though Ursa's in the Phantom Zone, she'll have left Zod and "moved on with her life".

But that classic character Non, --whose charisma and originality know no equal--will probably make an appearance at Zod's side.

    Yay.Huzzah.

Whereever does Singer get all of his wonderful ideas? So imaginative! So compelling! And all the more impressive for someone who has proudly stated that he's never read a comic book--especially a Superman title--in his life!!Hasn't done any research with the primary material whatsoever! All those little words and pictures are just too confusing for him!

Bryan Singer is the greatest and most innovative director in the history of comic book based motion pictures. He never copies any other filmmaker. The level of his originality is astounding to behold.

Maybe he'll get Chris Rock or Cedric the Entertainer to appear in his third Superman movie!I'm so excited by this news!

Ooh, I think I struck a nerve. :)) I was just kidding, even I wouldn't be that cruel; for what it's worth I think Singer would be a terrible choice because he would probably do it exactly the same way, but ratchet up the emo to even higher levels. Still, I think Raimi is pretty much tapped out when it comes to Spiderman and I would like to see what another director could bring to the table, especially one who isn't going to get hung up on the angst and pathos.

I almost fell out of my chair when I saw that clip. You know, as bad as that was (and it was reeeeaaaaaaalllllly bad) I still didn't hate it as much as the "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head" montage from part two. At least I was able to laugh at "Saturday Night Spider"; "Raindrops" just made me cringe and look away, as I pretended there was something in my eye.

As for the Singer directed Spideman 4; don't forget that Ian McKellan will be cast as Kraven The Hunter (how's that for a mental image). ;)

OK, enough bad karma about Batman: The Dark Knight. Here is some good DC stuff for you.

First up is a preview of the direct to video DC: New Frontier, based on the acclaimed Darwyn Cooke comic. This one looks great and the animated style really seems to stay true to the look of the book. The only downer is that we won't be seeing this till Spring of 2008. Have a peek:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-Hb_d5Qnts

And at no extra charge, here is a teaser from Season 5 of The Batman, in which Superman finally appears. I've really neglected this show, but between the recent episode documenting the founding of the Justice League (complete with the Hal Jordan Green Lantern) and now the introduction of Superman, I'm going to have to start checking it out again. Check out the clip, fanboys...

Glad you liked it Rogue. Between Superman Doomsday and New Frontier, it's looking more and more like the animated wing of WB is where I'm going to be getting my DC fix for the forseeable future.

As for The Batman, I used to watch it pretty regularly, but it's on Saturday mornings and that is when I'm always running around doing errands and such. Looks like I'll just have to fire up the old DVD recorder again.

is it worth picking up the comics?

I got it based on Willie Garvin's recommendation and enjoyed it quite a bit. If the DVD follows the comic (and it looks like it will) The Flash will definitely have a few memorable scenes, including a neat confrontation with Captain Cold.

Hey web-heads, here's some news to get your Spider-Senses tingling: SPIDER-MAN 3 arrives on on DVD and Blu-Ray in just a few short months! The third installment of the franchise featuring everyone's favorite Wall-Crawler swings onto shelves on October 30. Just in time for Halloween, early holiday gifts, Autumnal celebrations and well, just 'cuz!

Sony Pictures Entertainment is releasing the film—which already grossed a whopping $888 million worldwide in the box offices—in six different arachtastic ways that are sure to get your Spidey-juices flowing! At the top of the list is the "Spider-Man High Definition Trilogy" pack delivering all three films on Blu-ray disc—imagine all the Goblin, Doc Ock, Sandman and Venom-ous glory in HD. Go on. Imagine it. It's quite nice. The three-pack is the only shot fans will have at owning the first two Spider-Man films in the tasty hi-def Blu-Ray format, so true-believers better pounce!

For those who want the trilogy but don't have the drool-worthy HD capabilities, never fear: the package will also be available on standard DVD.

If you already have the first two films of the saga or only want the tertiary chapter, it will also be released in single- and double-disc editions in both Blu-Ray and standard format DVD. The solo-disc DVD is packed with super special features like a gag reel, still galleries, a Snow Patrol music video and two audio commentaries, but the double-disc DVD boasts another disc jam-packed with walloping extras such as behind-the-scenes looks at the creation of Sandman and Venom and international TV spots. And finally, SPIDER-MAN 3 will be available for Spider-fans on the run via PSP UMD.

With all those options, it's time to get your pre-orders in order!

Oh, please tell me that's an April Fool's Day joke--nearly four months late! I like Rogen, but he's overweight and schlubby looking. After chasing down a bad guy, he'd need Kato to give him CPR!

To me, at least, this solidifies this project as a comedy. Shaolin Soccer anyone? :s

    Rogen Wants Chow for Kato?
Source: Los Angeles Times July 21, 2007

The Los Angeles Times, which broke the news about Seth Rogen writing and starring in The Green Hornet, is now saying the Knocked Up star wants Kung Fu Hustle director and actor Stephen Chow to play Kato in his comedic take on the comic book.

The "Green Hornet" TV show was notable for the presence of the late Bruce Lee as sidekick Kato, a kung fu expert with a killer car.

Rogen would play Brit Reid, millionaire publisher-turned-masked crime fighter. The film will be produced by Neal H. Moritz at Columbia Pictures.

The Green Hornet deserves better than this and it's a disgrace to the great Bruce Lee himself... :#

It's also a disgrace to Fran Striker--who created The Green Hornet at the request of George W.Trendle(who also took all of the credit for The Lone Ranger--another Striker creation).

Since Seth Rogen clearly intends to fork up The Green Hornet,it'd be nice if another producer got the film rights to DC Comics' The Crimson Avenger. In it's earliest days, the "Crimson" was the best imitation of the Hornet to appear in comics.Like Britt Reid,Lee Travis was the heir to a vast publishing empire.Like The Hornet, the Crimson fought crime in a suit and trenchcoat with a hat and facemask.Like the Hornet, the Crimson had an extremely powerful automobile.Like the Hornet, the Crimson packed a gas-gun.And like the Hornet, the Crimson was aided in his war on crime by his close friend Wing, an Asian martial artist,who--like Kato--posed as his friend's valet.

I'm very disheartened to hear of the imminent befouling of The Green Hornet. A right shame, that, as it will be at least another generation before it's attempted again. Sad news, indeed.

On the bright side: Though I very much enjoyed Thomas Jane as The Punisher, Ray Stevenson (Titus Pullo from HBO's "Rome") is an excellent choice for Frank Castle. This man oozes menace B-)

I think that Stevenson will follow along the lines of Marvel's MAX Series Punisher and not the 616 version. I only speculate that because Stevenson's slighty older than Jane is and looks alot more grizzled like the MAX version.

IGN has the skinny on the story and characters.
    by IGN Staff

August 7, 2007 - IGN has the word on The Punisher 2, Liongate's sequel to the 2004 Marvel Comics adaptation. Lexi Alexander will direct the movie, which begins filming this fall in Montreal for a 2008 release. Ray Stevenson (Rome) will play the title role, taking over from Thomas Jane. The screenplay was written by Nick Santora, Kurt Sutter, Matt Holloway and Art Marcum.

The film is currently casting supporting roles; check out our plot information below for more on who's who. Please be advised that some plot SPOILERS follow:
As expected, the villain of the piece is indeed Billy Russo, a.k.a. Jigsaw. In the comics, Jigsaw was a gunman for the Maggia crime family, but in the movie he works for his uncle, Gaitano Cesare -- a wheelchair-bound Mafia don whom Billy openly despises (it's mutual). Jigsaw runs the waterfront docks of New York City and his facial disfigurement remains the handiwork of The Punisher. Despite the inclusion of a supervillain such as Jigsaw, the tone of the piece is definitely still one of gritty realism.

Jigsaw is expecting a lucrative "biological" shipment in from a Romanian crimelord, Cristu Bulat. The deal rubs Cesare the wrong way since he correctly suspects that Jigsaw is looking to sell the item to a Muslim terrorist cell in Queens once he gets it. This isn't the only plotline involving Jigsaw, however. More on that shortly.

Frank Castle remains on the run from the law, although the NYPD aren't exactly overeager to catch him since he's helping to rid the streets of scumbags. The hunt for The Punisher heats up once FBI Special Agent Luke McDonald becomes the bureau's liaison to the NYPD on the Castle case. Luke is obsessed with catching The Punisher for very personal reasons. Luke is partnered with a seemingly sorry excuse for an NYPD detective, the hard-drinking Martin Soap.

It turns out that during his one-man war on crime Frank unintentionally killed an undercover FBI agent, Nick Donatelli, McDonald's ex-partner. (There's a little more fueling Luke's vendetta than that, though.) Frank is remorseful over the agent's death, but he's not quitting his campaign against organized crime. We suspect, though, that he may have a bit of a death wish, punishing himself for his own crimes.

This heavy-handed theme of penance is driven home by Castle's ally, Dante, a former gangbanger and ex-con who used his stash of drug money to open a legit business (an arcade in Harlem) for families to patron.

These different storylines converge when Jigsaw targets Donatelli's widow Angie and her child Gracie for execution. A hostage standoff brings out both the cops and Frank. Jigsaw also happens to be raising an army of multi-ethnic criminals, all of whom are keen on taking down The Punisher. Then there's the biological shipment sale that Frank Castle has to stop.

Look to IGN for more news on The Punisher 2 as it happens!
