Victoria Hill Tests for Justice League
Source: Moviehole September 23, 2007
Moviehole is reporting that Aussie actress Victoria Hill auditioned for the role of Wonder Woman in Warner Bros. big screen Justice League of America adaptation:
The starlet, currently seen in the Village Roadshow release "December Boys," has tested for the role of Wonder Woman.
Now that doesn't mean she's in the running or a contender – you'd have to be a fly on the wall in the casting director's office to get wind of how she went, obviously – but she did read for the Amazonian princess.
Potential, guys?

I've never heard of her, but facially she looks good and actually reminds me a little bit of Alex Ross' model for WW. I'll have to check out a few shots from the neck down before giving her my endorsement, however.
I'm still surprised that WB seems so gung ho on this project while Batman: The Dark Knight is in production; I hope it doesn't kill the buzz for that movie since it looks to be a different cast.
I also still think they ought to use Brandon Routh, especially if there isn't a sequel to Superman Returns. I thought he did a good job and it would be nice to have at least one familiar face in the cast. I doubt he'd have any objections to signing on.
And Green Lantern better be Hal Jordan (I will be repeating this statement in all my JLA posts from now on, even after they announce that they'll be using John Stewart).

I agree with you that Routh should reprise his role in this picture, Tony. I really did like him in SR, it was just everything else about the production that was flaccid.
Do you really think that the Singer Experiment could be coming to a halt?
As far as GL, some articles say that Aquaman will be cast instead of the emerald one. Not really sure who's accurate though...
Depending on budget, I would think that Arthur Curry would be cheaper to develop unlike the more challenging task of CGI'ing the GL ring's actions...Hal, John or Kyle.

I really don't know what Aquaman can bring to the table, unless you plan on having some ocean-bound sequences in the movie he's very much a fifth wheel. And if the filmmakers are following the comics at all, then they should know that fan reaction to Aquaman is pretty neutral at best ( and darn negative in some quarters :v ); same goes for John Stewart now that I think about it.
It'll be interesting to see what the final roster really is; hopefully we'll have that pretty soon as this thing seems to be gaining steam daily.

More Justice League news:
Justice League Targeting February Start
Source: Dark Horizons September 24, 2007
Dark Horizons reports that auditions took place this past week for Justice League of America and notices mailed out confirmed some details.
The site says that shooting is scheduled to begin mid-February in Sydney, Australia and the shoot will run for approximately three to four months under the direction of George Miller (Happy Feet).
The production is currently based out of Seattle, and they are searching "for the 8-9 leads for this action feature film".
What do they require? "We are looking for Male actors 18-35 years old; Caucasian and Black. The primary focus should be to find Caucasian actors. There is 1 role for the Black Actor. We are looking for Female actors 20-32 years old; any ethnicity."
Hence my earlier argument in this thread that they were taking a "pc" approach. Will the black actor be John Stewart? Highly likely at this point. Unless it's Martian Manhunter.

Just so we're clear, it's not that I don't want a black actor in the movie, I just think the character of John Stewart is as lame as a three legged horse, and I'm not alone. Heck, I remember an article in Wizard Magazine where he was referred to as "the poster boy for the mentally retarded", and that was from the editorial staff. He doesn't have much of a following with the fanbase and I've read a lot of online polls among GL fans who would prefer Hal be in the movie.
I'd also heard a rumor that Martian Manhunter was going to be a CGI character and Lawrence Fishburne was going to provide the voice, so there may yet be a glimmer of hope. What can I say, I'm grasping at straws here because as you know ... wait for it ... Green Lantern better be Hal Jordan.

Hey, I get it, you are not a Stewart fan. Like you, I'm more of a Hal Jordan guy myself, Tony (thanks largely to the Neal Adams run on the title in the 70s) and always have been. Now I have a student who LOVES Stewart but he's just too jerky a character for me from what I've seen of him in the JLU cartoons; in real life, I couldn't see myself getting along with him at all. Only Guy Gardner rubs me the wrong way more when it comes to the Lantern Corps. Rayner is just a hero I never cared to conform to after that tragic story arc from the early 90s. 8-)
Maybe they should just cast someone to play Kilowag and have Dennis Haysbert reprise the voicing.
Maybe it's me but if they're going to cast a black actor to be supposedly fair, it should be Isabella's Black Lightning. He is more favorable than Stewart IMO and is a CURRENT League member.
I don't agree with a computer-generated Manhunter though. This guy is not the Hulk. Just get a tall, buffed guy to shave his head and paint him green ala Lou Ferrigno...
I'm just glad that Warner is finally taking some chances on other properties in their arsenal and not just milking the same old, same old with Supes & Batman. It's a step in the right direction but I do think that it's Marvel-influenced.

If this epic is going to be the forming of the JLA - origin story, then John Stewart has no business being there. Another vote for Hal Jordan as GL of sector 2814 and WW better have high beams ala Lynda Carter

Well if I were a passionate GL fan, I'd probably protest this with the same amount of vigor as Tony.
Regardless of whomever they choose, has it occured to any of you how tricky the Lantern's costume will come across in real-life? Anyone remember my friend dressed as him? Talk about tricky.
Okay...my buddy isn't exactly buff but...

Those pictures are indelibly etched in my mind Rogue. ) BTW, who's he dressing up as this year?
Yeah, they'd have to work on GL's costume a bit; then again Aquaman's duds aren't exactly the epitome of manliness you know; the orange shirt and green pants are pretty lame and the bearded, regal Aquaman with the bare chest looks like a reject from the Village People. Now there's someone to be reckoned with. 8-)
Getting back to GL, I think going the route of the animated costume - mostly black with a little green would be a better approach. I'd probably lose the white gloves and green boots. A little padding here or there and an actor in suitably good shape probably wouldn't hurt either. Maybe something along these lines...
Oh, and Green Lantern better be Hal Jordan.

I have no idea who he'll dress up like this year just as long as it doesn't scar his kids as he nearly did with this... )
I don't want GL to have those white gloves, Tony. They have always irked me; I kept thinking Palmolive dishwashing gloves or something. They're a little too "soft" to wear for the big screen production in this day and age.
White gloves...or orange chainmail? If Aquaman is in this, they'd have to go with the hook-hand version as opposed to Superfriends fishboy. I can't see it any other way. )

That's a funny looking power battery; looks more like a desk lamp. ) He really should have spent a little more time leveling off the emblem on the chest. And a little padding might have helped too.
Still, if I really wanted to I could easily find plenty of cringeworthy pics of Batman, Superman, Spiderman and just about any other superhero costumes. Fan produced is one thing; multi-million dollar studio work is quity another, well, most of the time. Let's not forget your pic of the sadsack Daredevil who had one lobster dinner too many.
What kind of guy swims in chainmail? I see a lot of irate parents with swimming pools seeing that as an example of a poor role model.
Oh. I forgot. Kids don't pay any attention to Aquaman anyway.

More JLA news. I take it no one else is getting cast until this matter is settled. B-)
Jessica Biel in Talks for Justice League!
Source: Variety September 24, 2007
Jessica Biel is in talks to play Wonder Woman in Warner Bros.' all-star superhero film Justice League of America, reports Variety.
The potential deal marks the first piece of casting to emerge from the DC Comics-based ensemble project, which is expected to feature Superman, Batman, the Flash and Aquaman in addition to Wonder Woman.
George Miller (Happy Feet) will direct the big screen adaptation. Kieran and Michele Mulroney wrote the script.
Biel is filming the indie drama Powder Blue, which wraps in October, opposite Forest Whitaker. She will then segue to A Woman of No Importance, based on the play by Oscar Wilde. That leaves room on the actress' schedule for "Justice League," which Warner is fast-tracking as a project before any potential strikes. However, the film's likelihood hinges on the studio's ability to assemble a cast of superheroes in a small window of time.
The trade says the studio declined comment, saying that it prefers to announce an entire cast rather than piecemeal deals.
Mrs. Man Face: "You wouldn't hit a lady? Would you?"
Batman: "The Hammer Of Justice isUNISEX!"
-Batman: The Brave & The Bold -
The notion of Biel being WW sounds like a bit of a longshot to me, especially as she already appeared in one genre flick (Blade: Trinity) and has avoided hollywood big budget productions after the titanic flop that was Stealth.
I also find that line that getting the movie made depends on getting the cast set up in a timely fashion very odd and disturbing. Most good movies hinge on a good script, not a hip cast. What's next? Jaime Foxx as John Stewart? Never mind. Just forget I said that. I hope WB isn't putting the cart before the horse, not that they've ever do something like that before. 8-)
Man, I just don't know what to believe about this JLA movie anymore; today IGN says Jessica Biel is WW; yesterday they said it was Victoria Hill and even asserted that the movie could still very well be a CGI mo-cap flick. Here's the link to that prior story:

I have no idea how faithful her casting will be, but I'm very happy that she's being considered as I think she's great. Oh, and it's good that the Flash will feature; with Routh's Supes and Batman, it's good that the film will feature a real superhero. )

The Rock Up for Captain Marvel AND Black Adam?
Source: MTV September 24, 2007
The Game Plan star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has told MTV that he is in talks to play both Captain Marvel AND the villainous Black Adam in New Line's Shazam! adaptation.
But which character should he play? Let him know at the link above!
NOOOOOOOO! Play both? I can see Rock playing Black Adam because of the Egyptian features and all but Marvel too? This is just insane. X-(
I love that West is going to be Jigsaw in PUNISHER 2 though but I'm not too pleased that the Justice League movie will be taking the route of Happy Feet and Polar EXpress. No wonder they decided to bring Millar onboard...
I wanted a live-action version...:#

Actually Rogue, I think they didn't get that Shazam story quite right. According to IGN, which also references the MTV interview, the Rock said that he was up for either role and wanted to let the fans decide which part he should play. Have a read...
I like Dominic West; he was really good as the sleazy senator in 300 and should make for a good villain in Punisher 2.
As for JLA being all CGI, like I said everything is rumor and innuendo right now. Take it all with the proverbial grain of salt and don't forget that WB has confirmed absolutely nothing yet.

I think that it's clearly evident on who should be Cap... Brandon Molale. Put the Spock ears on The Rock and get this rolling.
Some things should try and stay faithful to the source material. This is one that will be hard to overlook.

Com on Rogue, since when does an actor have to look like his comic book counterpart. :v
Personally, I think the bigger problem here is that the Rock's box office firepower has really flatlined lately. Make him the star and you run the risk of quickly being written off as a second rate film because, quite frankly, that's all he's done lately.
Rogue, come on, you must be pulling my leg. Brandon Molale as Cap Marvel? If they ever need to cast a side of beef hanging in a meat truck, he gets my vote but otherwise, keep him and especially the Brama Bull away from any DC projects )

Is he that bad an actor, Spec? Other than a couple of Adam Sandler flicks, I've seen nothing much from him.
And when you think of it, how much aptitude does it take for a grown man to act like he has the mind of a 13 year old? Okay...maybe that wasn't a good question...
But you cannot mistake that his features are eerily similiar to Cap's. This is a big guy and he has the presence to at least LOOK the part.
Rock's a good action star but he looks more like Adam in this case and like Tony's said, he hasn't actually been setting the box office on fire lately. He does have depth for an ex-wrestler though...

Yes, but can he carry a big budget film? No!! And, looking the part has nothing to do with acting. Case in point: Dolph Lundgren as Punisher - sure he looked rugged enough but when it came to acting chops... well you know where Tony and I stand on that :v As for Rock's depth, well we've seen how far that has taken him.. his fifteen minutes in the spotlight are just about up.

That's my brother; about as suble as taking out a mosquito with a hand grenade.
Still, he makes some good points. Mollale may look the part, but all he's done up till now is play "The Jock" in bit part, supporting roles; he really hasn't shown that he has the talent or star power to carry a movie.
As for the Rock, saying he has depth for a pro wrestler is like saying Moe Howard was the smartest of the Three Stooges. He's about 5 minutes away from becoming a direct-to-video actor as I don't think he'll ever be able to transcend his pro-wrestling persona or gain a mass-audience following. Heck, he can't even go by his own name without risking losing what little recognition he has.
If you put those two in a Shazam movie, it might be entertaining but it'll also probably disappear from the theaters faster than The Phantom did.

Which is not to say the the Phantom was a bad film. Billy Zane is a much better actor than Rock or Mollale will ever be and the film had great production values and a pretty solid cast including one of my favorite actors, Patrick McGoohan. Much like its predecessor The Shadow, the "period piece" film at that moment in time did not fare well at the box office.

The problem with The Phantom & The Shadow(which are two of my favorite genre films) was what I'd like to believe was marketing and the familiarity issue. I don't remember what critics had to say about both off hand.
I went to see both of these movies and remember the theatres being slim-pickings unfortunately.

West stars in The Wire, one of the best shows on TV at the moment.

I like Dominic West; he was really good as the sleazy senator in 300 and should make for a good villain in Punisher 2.
As for JLA being all CGI, like I said everything is rumor and innuendo right now. Take it all with the proverbial grain of salt and don't forget that WB has confirmed absolutely nothing yet.
Some things should try and stay faithful to the source material. This is one that will be hard to overlook.

Personally, I think the bigger problem here is that the Rock's box office firepower has really flatlined lately. Make him the star and you run the risk of quickly being written off as a second rate film because, quite frankly, that's all he's done lately.
Batman: "The Hammer Of Justice is UNISEX!"

"No..."

I agree: Now this is great entertainment {[] Great film to "let off some steam" Rogue! )
The problem with The Phantom & The Shadow(which are two of my favorite genre films) was what I'd like to believe was marketing and the familiarity issue. I don't remember what critics had to say about both off hand.
I went to see both of these movies and remember the theatres being slim-pickings unfortunately.
