:)) :)) Good one. Is that a panel from an actual comic or a spoof someone mocked up?

I thought so. Given the art style, I'd say it must have been from the 60's - a much more innocent time.

Too bad they didn't have Aquaman with a thought bubble about Aqualad. That would have made it perfect. :D

NOT COOL. Kinda sounds like they're perverts or something... :)) :)) :))

It was the 60s, Agent_M...a much simpler time. Certain words and phrases, as you know, would take on a totally different interpretations nowadays.

I can name a few words now that wouldn't have brought so much as a snicker then. :))

Fair enough. It is an absolute disaster. However, in regards to the Spider-Man films, you may not like the emotion, but surely you love it when Spidey lets loose and battles the villains? :D

Yes and no. The fights are well staged and definitely the highlights of the films for me - if somebody were to release a hi-def DVD with just the action scenes I'd probably get it.

Having said that, I do not like how Spidey seems to lose his mask at some point in nearly every encounter - so that we can see it's Tobey doing his own stunts I guess - and how the climax to every film involves Spiderman somehow rescuing Mary Jane from peril and certain death. They're good but also repetitive in that way.

Here's the new poster to Incredible Hulk. Looks to me like Norton's trying to channel the spirit of the late Bill Bixby, right now to the napsack. Still not sure about the Hulk; he looks a little too thin around the middle. And I hope those two characters are not being shown in scale.

How big around the middle do you expect him to be? :)) He looks fine to me. ;) (Although is there a particular reason that we are only seeing his back? Whether or not the Hulk looks good will arguably be mainly aided by what his face looks like.)

EDIT: His arms do look extremely big in proportion to his body, but I can assure you that it's not unnatural to have big arms :v (and no, I'm not talking about myself. :# :)) )

Great find, Tony! Personally I love it! I can almost here Lonely Man playing in the background when looking at this. {[]

As for Hulk's proportions, he looks fine to me but I hope he isn't as towering as this. I guess he could have a bit more girth but the more pressing concern for me will be if it's good enough to silence the naysayers?

I still think that Downey, Jr. could've been a more compelling Banner by comparison but Norton will do fine. B-)

While the poster does a great job evoking the classic television series, I can't say I'm to thrilled about it. I have a feeling that this film is going to suffer just as Ang Lee's version did by trying way too hard to be introspective.

DC Direct has announced thsi new 1:6 scale The Spirit movie deluxe collector figure. The company says:

Adapted from the legendary comic strip, 'Will Eisner's The Spirit' is a classic action-adventure-romance told by genre-twister Frank Miller (creator of '300' and 'Sin City.') It is the story of a former rookie cop who returns mysteriously from the dead as the Spirit (Gabriel Macht) to fight crime from the shadows of Central City. His arch-enemy, the Octopus (Samuel L. Jackson) has a different mission: he's going to wipe out Spirit's beloved city as he pursues his own version of immortality. The Spirit tracks this cold-hearted killer from Central City's rundown warehouses, to the damp catacombs, to the windswept waterfront... all the while facing a bevy of beautiful women who either want to seduce, love or kill our masked crusader.

This 1:6 scale figure is clothed in an authentically detailed film outfit including suit, overcoat, hat and non-removable mask. Manufactured to order. Packaged in a deluxe 4-color window box with a fifth panel.

There's an extended 4 minute trailer for Speed Racer over at Yahoo movies. Lots of new clips of all the cars in action. The "car-fu" action scenes are a little over the top, but it does have a distinct style and looks interesting. Still not sure about the guy playing Speed, but Matthew Fox has really nailed Racer X's voice. Have a look:

The figure's costume looks the same as in the pics which were briefly posted then pulled. Yes it is different from the comics, but it's obvious that Miller is trying to give everything a more modern and up to date look. I'm not familiar with the comic so I can't say if that's good or bad, but it is hardly unprecedented - just look at what filmmakers have done with Batman's costume over the past 20 years.

When I read the Hulk comic his torso didn't come down in a "V" shape; he was much bulkier and stockier all around. It's different from what I remember, that's all.

Yep-Miller's putting his own stamp on The Spirit. In fairness to Miller, apparently every director who makes a movie based upon a well-known comics character automatically feels obligated to alter it's appearance. At least The Spirit looks right physically and facially. And unlike certain other directors, Miller doesn't seem to have felt an overwhelming desire to cast his movie's lead actor completely against type.I'm grateful for that.

The only time The Spirit was dressed in the colors Eisner gave him on the screen(blue suit, white shirt, red tie, black gloves)--was in the 1986 TV-pilot.Eisner did, however, change The Spirit's hair color. In the original comics,it was black. But in the later paintings,Eisner gave his creation brown hair.

More Hulk news trying to extinguish any issues of conflict between Norton and Leterrier; read into it what you will:

Marvel and Norton's 'Dispute' Over Hulk?
Source: Entertainment Weekly April 16, 2008

Presumably you've heard about the rumors that Marvel Studios and The Incredible Hulk star Edward Norton were in a 'dispute' over the final cut of the movie. Now, Entertainment Weekly has published an in-depth article about the 'situation,' which pretty much comes down to this:

According to Leterrier, he and his star hit it off beautifully, and there were no issues with Marvel while the movie was being shot. During post-production, though, the relationship with Marvel hit a snag. The company wanted to release the most commercial film possible: lots of action and a running time under two hours. Norton and Leterrier, however, lobbied for a more meditative cut of the film that ran about two hours and 15 minutes.

It's all apparently been blown out of proportion though. Here's a statement from Norton that was also approved by Universal and Marvel:

Like so many people I've loved the story of The Hulk since I was a kid, so it was thrilling when Marvel asked me to write and help produce an altogether new screen incarnation, as well as play Bruce Banner. I grew up reading Marvel Comics and always loved the mythic dimension and contemporary themes in the stories, and I’m proud of the script I wrote. In every phase of production, including the editing, working with Louis Leterrier has been wonderful...I've never had a better partner, and the collaboration with all the rest of the creative team has been terrific. Every good movie gets forged through collaboration, and different ideas among people who are all committed and respect the validity of each other's opinions is the heart of filmmaking. Regrettably, our healthy process, which is and should be a private matter, was misrepresented publicly as a 'dispute,' seized on by people looking for a good story, and has been distorted to such a degree that it risks distracting from the film itself, which Marvel, Universal and I refuse to let happen. It has always been my firm conviction that films should speak for themselves and that knowing too much about how they are made diminishes the magic of watching them. All of us believe The Incredible Hulk will excite old fans and create new ones and be a huge hit...our focus has always been to deliver the Hulk that people have been waiting for and keep the worldwide love affair with the big green guy going strong.

I'm not saying that I LIKE this departure from the established image, far from it.But like Burton and Nolan and Singer,Miller apparently can't leave well enough alone.Over on CBR(Comic Book Resources)there's an article on the making of The Spirit movie complete with several comments by Miller, and a few more from one of the film's producers. In essence, she(the producer-who practically sounds like she's fallen in love with Miller)says that while it's important this movie honor Will Eisner,it must also be seen as a Frank Miller film.:v

Make of that what you will...

A teaser for The Spirit (complete with music lifted from Ennio Morricone's score to The Untouchables) is up at MTV by way of AICN. I'm not familiar with the character so I can't comment on the teaser's merit, but the tone of the thing and even the voiceover feels like typical Frank Miller to me.

Things have been very quiet on the JLA movie front lately, and apparently for very good reason: according to CHUD.com, while at the Speed Racer press junket, Joel Silver (who seems to be in the know about high level WB projects) said that the film had been "tabled", which typically means that while not dead, the film is on hold indefinitely. It now looks like when and if this film gets made it will be with a different director, cast and (hopefully) script. Apparently, there is a God and he likes DC Comics.

There's a new video interview with Brandon Routh at collider.com. While he talks primarily about his new movie, he does say that he expects to start filming Superman: The Man of Steel next January. He also takes a few shots at the now tabled JLA movie.

Given the whole circus around Superman Returns' boxoffice performance and reception among fans, the recent court rulings on the Schuster and Seigel estates' claims to the Superman character, and the fact that there still doesn't seem to be a script, I have to wonder if a January start date is overly optimistic.

Speaking of Superman, can anyone tell me if the 1988 Ruby Spears animated version is available for DVD? I really loved that show; I'm not sure if many remember it.

I recall coming in from partying hard on Friday nights until sunlight, driving home and watched this show before succumbing to sleep for the good part of the day. It came on pretty early. :))

If anyone knows, I'd appreciate it. ;)
