Well we're only mere weeks away from GREEN LANTERN: First Flight but I'm very happy that the DCAU follow-up: Superman/Batman: Public Enemies will see the return of Superman voice talent TIM DALY!!!! B-)

I like George Newbern's Supes but it just wasn't that great compared to Tim's. Now maybe he can get a chance to redeem himself after that rushed trainwreck named Braniac Attacks. :s

Here's a pic of the voice actors taking a break to pose: Clancy Brown (Lex Luthor), Kevin Conroy (Batman) & Tim Daly (90s Superman).

I read this last night as well; nice to see that they're going back to the original voices rather than the stunt voice casting they did with Superman: Doomsday.

BTW, there will be a preview of Public Enemies on the Green Lantern First Flight DVD, so there's a little bit more incentive to pick that one up as well.

Tell me, Tony...get a chance to check out Wonder Woman yet? Trust me, it's one of the better DTVs WB/DC has put out. B-)

Not yet; the BluRay has stubbornly refused to go down in price, which is odd as most of these shows do drop after a few months. It also hasn't played on Cartoon Network yet as far as I know. Its on my Amazon wishlist and as soon as it gets to around $15 I'll definitely pick it up. If it hasn't dropped by then, maybe I'll pick it up at the same time as GL and have a double feature.

And speaking of Public Enemies, here's an article from hi-def digest with yet more info on the DVD/BluRay release and a sneak peek at the cover. If the art on the cover is anything to go by it looks like the Bruce Timm style has been scaled back in favor of a design more in keeping with the comic.

There is also mention of a sneak preview of DB/WB's next direct to DVD project after Public Enemies: Darkest Night.

Yeah, they're going for the Ed McGuiness look from the story arc much like they did with Darwyn Cooke's look and New Frontier.

I wanted the Timm cosmetic but I understand. :(

Exclusive: Jessica Biel In Talks To Join 'Thor'
    Written by Jason Nicholl
    Wednesday, 01 July 2009 04:13

Our sources, from deep within, have once again exclusively told NukeTheFridge.com a nice little tidbit involving the casting of an upcoming Marvel movie. According to our source, Jessica Biel is in talks about joining the cast of "Thor."

Reportedly if cast, Biel will play the love interest of "Thor." The most probable love interest for "Thor" would more than likely be "Jane Foster," a nurse and girlfriend of "Thor" alter ego Donald Blake. But the problem is that our source was not sure of the character's name, but seemed to believe it was the same female character from the animated "Hulk vs Thor." If that is the case, since "Jane Foster" was not in the animated movie, Biel is more than likely playing either "Amora, The Enchantress" or "Sif." Those characters did appear in "Hulk vs Thor." "The Enchantress" is a powerful sorceress who seeks to make Thor fall in love with her. When Thor rejects her for "Sif," an Asgardian warrior whom Thor falls in love with, "The Enchantress" helps Loki in his plot against Thor.

Considering that all rumors say that the first "Thor" movie, directed by Kenneth Branagh, is dealing with the title character's time in Asgard and will not feature Donald Blake at all, or not until the very climax of the film, it is more likely that Biel would be either "Sif" or "The Enchantress." Personally, I think she would make a great Enchantress. What do you think?

Stay tuned for more confirmation on the possible casting of Jessica Biel, and exactly what character she will play in "Thor."

Several sites including Superherohype have reported that Natalie Portman has joined the cast of Marvel's Thor movie. Portman will be playing Jane Foster who, in early Thor comics was a nurse and Thor's first love interest on Earth.

The article also confirms the previous casting news of Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Tom Hiddleston as Loki and has this quick summary of the movie's plot:

Marvel Studios expands its film universe with a new type of superhero: Thor. This epic adventure spans the Marvel Universe; from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.

This is late news for me under the circumstances but why are they casting Jane Foster for the film when I read another article elsewhere stating that Donald Blake won't be a part of this film? That bit alone makes me a little leery on where Marvel is going with this. You have to have Blake and the cane...

The only other thing that would probably kill it for me not to see this is if Thor doesn't wear the red cape and some form of winged helmet. I absolutely detest the Ultimate biker look of the hero. X-(

I think Marvel's modus operandi in their own comic book adaptations is to cherry pick ideas from the entire history of a given character to build a movie that essentially takes place in a new universe that largely stands on its own. In much the same way that Tony Stark went from the Mk I to the Mk III armor in a matter of days (instead of years) or how he no longer has a secret identity or how characters from different points in the Hulk's history were amalgamated into the same movie, so to will different characters and events from Thor's history probably be interwoven into one movie.

The "classic" Thor costume is my favorite as well and I'd also be disappointed if they deviated too far from it. I think that costume can work if the right materials are used and if the actor is appropriately buff.

Pretty much where I'm coming from as well; I'm somewhat familiar with the character but never really read any of his stories so, much like the X-Men films, this is something of a blank slate for me and I really won't mind if the filmmakers change things around, as long as the finished product is entertaining.

I'm sure the fanboys will be upset that Hex no longer has the "bucked eye" as RogueAgent likes to call it; it was a pretty emblematic part of the character but also made him far more grotesque so I guess I can understand why the filmmakers decided to skip it, though I don't think it will win them any goodwill with the fanboys.

The poster itself looks decent, it has a western feel to it though it is typical of the stylized photoshopping of this era; it seems the days of the painted movie poster are truly over. Megan Fox looks hot, as usual, so it makes sense to exploit her assets. I just wish the girl would grow up and get her head screwed on straight. She's burning a lot of bridges with some of her comments and attitude.

Looks like WB is going to take another crack at Shazam. The attached article courtesy of Superherohype.com notes that Bill Birch and Geoff Johns have been brought in to work on a new script. Let's hope they have more success than previous attempts.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the ongoing legal wrangling involving the rights to Superman (in a bizarre ruling DC and WB recently lost the rights to Superman's origin and references to his home world of Krypton but still have rights to the character until 2012 - lawyers give me a headache). Seeing as Captain Marvel has many of the same abilities (super strength, ability to fly), I could see the WB bean counters tinkering with the character and then trying to pawn him off as a suitable replacement.

I'm glad to hear that they're "going back to the original DC comics source material" (um, shouldn't that be Fawcett comics?) for inspiration--when I heard that Billy Batson was going to be some sort of streetwise kid and the focus would be on teenage angst, I was happy to learn that the project had foundered. Give me a movie where Billy is a purehearted boy who becomes the World's Mightiest Mortal and I'll be happy.

This is great news even if it turns out to be a backdoor strategy by WB to counter the Superman ruling. However I don't think that Supes is going anywhere seeing that he's a major tentpole of the company. If the families are smart and aren't too greedy, everyone can make a nice piece of change if he remains with DC/WB.

    But to SHAZAM!...

Finally WB are getting a clue to look at those who actually KNOW the character and respect the source material. Geoff Johns is a good GL writer and if Hal Jordan's return to the DC fray is any indication of Johns' writing talents, Shazam! could turn out pretty good scriptwise.

Now if only the Nolan brothers would dump David Goyer's remedial talents as a co-writer and get PAUL DINI onboard for Batman 3, I would be a very happy man. B-)

He's the only one I trust to do Batman justice outside of Denny O' Neill. Respecting the source material counts!

Kind of late news to report but look who's trying to return his character to the big screen...

McFarlane Starts Writing New Spawn Movie

    Source:Josh August 23, 2009

"Spawn" creator Todd McFarlane has announced that he has officially begun writing the screenplay for a new movie based on the character.

"The story has been in my head for 7 or 8 years," McFarlane said. "The movie idea is neither a recap or continuation. It is a standalone story that will be R-rated. Creepy and scary."

He added that "the tone of this 'Spawn' movie will be for a more older audience. Like the film 'Departed.'"

In August of 1997, New Line released a Spawn movie that grossed $87.8 million worldwide. It starred Michael Jai White, John Leguizamo and Martin Sheen.

I'm not really excited for this although if it ever comes to fruition, I might check it out in theatres. Spawn hasn't really been a relevant comic book since the late 90s to me at least...I thought the old HBO animated series was his peak.

Trailer for BATMAN ARKHAM ASYLUM is now up as the game is now available for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360! From what I've read and the demo that I've played, it's Splinter Cell mixed with elements of Silent Hill for atmosphere. The right combination for a Batman game. It looks good enough to be a standalone movie and yes, Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill reprise their respective roles.

Finally DC has put a videogame out worthy of high playability! Marvel was sort of leaving them in the dust with their game versions.

I am so picking up mine today. B-) It looks GOOD. {[]

Just came across this bit of very interesting news. Looks like Disney is planning to buy Marvel Comics. In addition to all sorts of crossover possibilities (Donald Duck vs. Howard the Duck?, Wasp vs. Tinkerbell?, Punisher: Cartoon War Journal?) I'm sure it will have ramifications for Marvel's movies down the road as they'll have disney's considerable studio machine behind them (as well as their board of directors). The deal needs to be ratifed by the FTC for any possible antitrust issues so things could still fall apart.

I saw that news too Tony, I think it is interesting in that the Disney studio is a master at cross-promotion. Make the movie, which leads to a book, which leads to toys, which leads to kids pajamas, which leads to a Broadway play, which leads to a sequel and then we start over again. I am sure Disney saw a way to better monetize the comic properties Marvel owns. Seeing how well Time Warner does with Batman may have pushed them toward this deal.

I also think Disney has some outstanding animators at work in their studios and Disney may be able to create some interesting animated features of the various comic properties. It is going to be interesting to see what they do with this property if the deal is approved.

I really hope they don't do some silly combo as you suggest. If Disney had an iota of sense in them they would make an animted film, tv show, or short based on Carl Barks excellent Duck stories. And I mean REALLY do it, not that bastardization they called Duck Tales. X-(

Bark's stories, at his peak, were better then any super hero comic book ever made. Same goes for Don Rosa's stories, though they could be a bit too self-important.

It will be interesting to see what comes of this as there are all sorts of questions about whether Disney will try to put any kind of pressure on Marvel to tone down some of its more extreme titles. The Punisher books for example are incredibly violent so it will be interesting to see what, if any, editorial policies Disney may try to administer and enforce.

There is already talk that Pixar (another Disney subsidiary) is interested in making a CGI film featuring Marvel characters; that would be quite a sight. It will also be interesting to see if Disney makes a bid to reacquire the film rights to characters like Spiderman, the X-Men and Fantastic Four, which Marvel licensed to other studios (sometimes in perpetuity).

The only troubling aspect with a deal like this comes from having seen the horror that is WB's handling of DC's characters over the years. Hopefully Disney's beancounters and suits will be less hands on and more creatively inclined. That seems to be the tradition at that studio and hopefully it will apply to the Marvel acquisition as well.

I wouldn't be surprised if Disney releases future films under its subsidiary companies like Touchstone to hold on to that older demographic. Disney might see Marvel as a franchise that is more lucrative in its licensing rather than its films. It's only a matter of time before we see Marvel toys and clothing popping up at Disney outlets...Heck, maybe we'll see some cool Thor ride at Disneyland!

You mean the one where Hulk meets the black suited Daredevil wearing a hat pulled down over his eyes?

Or maybe this epic where Hulk meets up with beach bum Thor complete with sheep skin shoulder pads and dorky medievel helmet with crazyglue applied wings?
