I was actually referring to Pixar, which whilst owned by Disney, nonetheless produces extremely sophisticated films and continues to produce masterpiece after masterpiece.

It comes with the territory." Death of a Salesman
You mean the one where Hulk meets the black suited Daredevil wearing a hat pulled down over his eyes?
I don't know if Rogue will agree with me on this, but I would love to see another Daredevil film. That, as well as another Phantom film and a Flash film. That's not too much to ask is it?

The Hulk TV movies were offshoots of the old TV show with the late Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno. Filmed in the 1980s, I believe Bixby was even one of the producers. They were attempts to rekindle interest in the Hulk TV show and backdoor attempts at introducing other characters for potential spinoffs. They were your typical 1980s low budget TV movie affairs; though in fairness to Bixby and the producers, I've read that it was the TV censors who demanded the changes to the costumes. Daredevil's was particularly problematic as the censors objected to the idea of a red costume (don't know why, maybe it was viewed as unpatriotic as the cold war was still going on?) and horns were of course too demonic for television and as such a big no-no. Thus the "new and improved" black spandex wearing ninja Daredevil was born.
The same era also spawned a pair of Captain America TV movies, complete with "improved" costume, winged helmet and see thru shield:
and a Dr. Strange movie that relatively speaking actually wasn't half bad.

There have been rumblings that 20th Century Fox wants to reboot several comics properties they own including Daredevil, ditching Ben Affleck in the process. They've also already hired a writer and producer to re-envision the Fantastic Four.
There was a Phantom TV movie in the planning stages at the SyFy Channel; but early designs and plot leaks were so bad (they really twisted the mythos, going so far as to change the character's name because "Kit" wasn't manly enough) that I think that one has been shelved or is at least on the back-burner.
The Flash was on the drawing board for a while but dropped off the radar when George Miller tried to get his JLA movie off the ground. It hasn't been heard from since and unfortunately, I doubt we'll hear much from it until WB either gets their live action Green Lantern movie before the cameras or decides to kill that production as well.
As to Pixar doing CGI movies based on Marvel characters, I think that the licenses that Sony and Fox own are for live action movies only (Marvel regularly gets other studios like Lionsgate to release its animated offerings), so it could very well be that Pixar could use those characters if they wanted to as long as they stayed away from live action.
I was actually referring to Pixar, which whilst owned by Disney, nonetheless produces extremely sophisticated films and continues to produce masterpiece after masterpiece.
All Disney does now is pump out pop music for 12 year olds. This company is a total bastardization of what Walt Disney founded.
Really, I guess all those Pixar masterpieces didn't come from Disney. I guess the Pirates of the Caribbean movies didn't come from Disney, nor did the National Treasure movies. I guess There Will be Blood, Doubt, No Country for Old Men and Gone Baby Gone didn't come from Miramax studios, a division of Disney. I guess The Lion King, The Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid and Aladdin didn't come from Disney, not to mention Enchanted. I guess all those Broadway plays like The Lion King and Beauty and The Beast that won or were nominated for various Tony awards didn't come from Disney.
Walt Disney was an original, a pioneer. He started out making cartoon shorts and had the vision to believe an animated feature length movie would sell tickets, he was right. He also had the vision to believe a theme park where families would come to forget their troubles and have fun would draw crowds, he was right. Walt Disney strongest belief was that you should always deliver a quality product. The Disney Studios have expanded greatly since Walt's death, but IMO, more often than not, they deliver a quality product. Perhaps Bob Iger has a vision for the Marvel characters.
I really believe the Marvel characters are in good hands and I wouldn't be surprised if some of the lesser known characters from the Marvel world get a chance to shine.
Really, I guess all those Pixar masterpieces didn't come from Disney.
Pixar is the best studio in this day and age. 60 years ago, they would have been considered on par with Terrytoons.
I guess the Pirates of the Caribbean movies didn't come from Disney, nor did the National Treasure movies.
Those movie are all overblown, obnoxious "movie rides". Both those series are the epitomes of bad adventure films.
I guess There Will be Blood, Doubt, No Country for Old Men and Gone Baby Gone didn't come from Miramax studios, a division of Disney
.
I love NO COUNTRY but that dosen't excuse all of the other **** they are doing.
I guess The Lion King, The Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid and Aladdin didn't come from Disney, not to mention Enchanted.
Lion King, Beauty and The Beast, Little Mermaid, and Aladdin were all total crap. They were just formualic musical fillers with empty shells of badly designed "saturday morning" characters voiced by over paided celeberties and eye bleeding, over saturated colors. You can occassionally see some good character animation and designs thanks in part to modern day geniuses like Eric Goldberg and Will Finn. Besides, throwing all that money around, something has to stick. I didn't bother with Enchanted, it looked **** stupid. You could even compare the character designs from Snow White to the ones they used for that evil witch and incidental ones like the forest animals in Enchanted. They once again ran 'em through the "filmation" machine, gutting out the good principles of the 1940's and leaving us with TV quality dreck.
Genius Disney is Dumbo, Fantasia, The Three Caballeros, and there magnum opus, Song of The South*. All that modern day fluff can't compare.
I guess all those Broadway plays like The Lion King and Beauty and The Beast that won or were nominated for various Tony awards didn't come from Disney.
Well since those started off as souless animated films with songs, it's not hard to imagine them being live action musicials. I can't debate the quality of those plays since I have never seen them.
Don't lecture me about Walt Disney. I know alot more about the studio at it's peak and animation in general then you ever could.
The Disney Studios have expanded greatly since Walt's death, but IMO, more often than not, they deliver a quality product. Perhaps Bob Iger has a vision for the Marvel characters.
Well you got one right. The soul of Disney has been bastardized year by year to be nothing but a bunch obnoxious tween franchises and saturday morning quality animated films and TV. The Disney that Walt wanted is long, LONG gone.
I really believe the Marvel characters are in good hands and I wouldn't be surprised if some of the lesser known characters from the Marvel world get a chance to shine.
Your really living in a fantasy world if you think that would happen. This is just another feather in Disney's cap to take advantage of most likely a negative way.
* Just a footnote, it's a shame that this great film has yet to see a restored DVD release. Unfortunately stupid and highly sensitive people constantly want Song of The South out of public hands because it has been deemed racist. The only thing "racist" about it is the Southern drawl of Uncle Remus, Brer Rabbit and Fox and it's entirely understandable since the film takes place shortly after the American Civil War. A majority of Southern blacks were not particularly articulate so the dialect would reflect the times. However regardless of the reason for accents people rarely see the film for what it is, a kindly old man telling stories of a clever rabbit to children, that is it. This is a fun and innocent family film that can be viewed by anyone and offend nobody. South of The South is constantly being requested to be released on DVD and it's about time Disney appeases their fans.

The DC Machine seems to have picked up considerable steam:
Guy Ritchie Set to Direct Lobo
Source:Variety September 2, 2009
Warner Bros. Pictures has set Guy Ritchie to direct Lobo, a live action adaptation of the DC Comics title about an alien interstellar bounty hunter, reports Variety.
Don Payne wrote the most recent script draft, and Joel Silver, Akiva Goldsman and Andrew Rona will produce. The film is a co-production between Silver Pictures and Weed Road.
In the film, says the trade, Lobo will be a seven-foot tall, blue-skinned, indestructible and heavily muscled anti-hero who drives a pimped out motorcycle, and lands on Earth in search of four fugitives who are bent on wreaking havoc. Lobo teams with a small town teenaged girl to stop the creatures.
Production on Lobo begins early next year. The studio is aiming for a PG-13 rating.
Don't know how many feel about the character but I loved the guy. One of very few anti-heroes around that fought Superman to a standstill...
First a Deadman movie in the works and now this. Awesome.
I hope this sticks. B-)

8-) yourself. Let me state that again: Pixar IMO produces extremely sophisticated films and continues to produce masterpiece after masterpiece!!!!!
Here's something else that is sure to enrage you. Barry, myself, Tony, Rogue and everyone else have EVERY right to disagree with you! You are NOT the world's expert on Disney, not even close, and you are even less of an 'expert' on cinema in general. Ever since you have joined this site, you have demonstrated nothing but the greatest of intolerance at other people having different opinions to you. Well, tough. You don't like it, then leave. X-(
Oh, BTW, Pixar IMO produces extremely sophisticated films and continues to produce masterpiece after masterpiece!!!

Barry, I completely agree with you.

I actually remember reading about the Phantom TV movie. The costume looked terrible. I know that alot of people didn't like Daredevil however I thought it was great fun. I wouldn't mind if Ben Affleck returned, however if, as you say, it's being rebooted, that's fine with me. As for Flash, one of my absolute favourite superheroes, I don't care whether he appears in his own film or in Miller's JLA film; I just want to see a film featuring the Flash! Sadly, however, it appears that you're right about the chances of it happening being slight at best. According to IMDB, JLA is dead. It's not listed among his future, and current, projects. It also appears that WB are more focused on single-hero films, rather than multi-hero films.

Hey
Don't leave Spidey out of the 'bad TV incarnations" mix...
I remember those goggles on his mask, his spider web that looked like a tow-rope, and J Jonah Jameson having a really bad perm...
I loved those as a kid, in fact my younger brother got us thrown out of the cinema because of Spider-man and the dragon's challenge. It was part of a double bill with Cactus Jack and during the intermission he was running up and down the isles shouting "I'm spider-man" and "shooting" people with his webs, in other words pointing his wrist's at other kids and going "thwip"
I know that alot of people didn't like Daredevil however I thought it was great fun. I wouldn't mind if Ben Affleck returned, however if, as you say, it's being rebooted, that's fine with me.
I liked Daredevil as well ( much to RogueAgent's consternation ) ); there are some ridiculous moments (like the fight in the children's playground) but on the whole it was an entertaining movie and as I was never much of a fan of the comic I can look past its transgressions.
Affleck, BTW, has all but disowned the movie and comic book adaptations in general, so I wouldn't hold my breath for him reprising the role.
As for Flash, one of my absolute favourite superheroes
This of course begs the question: Have you ever read a Flash comic?
After your recent foray into the comicdom (which you seemed to survive just fine I might add) maybe you should grab an issue or, better yet, a compilation book and get a better flavor for the character.

Yeah, I used to love those as a kid as well and marvelled at the fact that CBS wouldn't just greenlight an ongoing TV show. Then I saw them as an adult and the magic just wasn't there anymore.
Still, melodramatic plots and cheesy effects notwithstanding, to me they are more watchable than Sony's recent angst-fests. Aunt Mae was a minor background character that you almost never saw and Nicholas Hammond, though a little too old to be a college student, wasn't a whining, crying, pizza delivering, sadsack dishrag like Tobey Maguire ( are you listening Dan? :v ).

I suppose I'll never live that down. )
As I've conceded earlier, the Director's Cut is alot more fleshed out and I liked it much better but that flirty little battle with Elektra in The Kitchen was too much to forgive. A blind guy pulling off stunts like that in front of dozens of people? Ugh. Too campy and compromising for a character with such a gritty subtext.
And that damn costume with the seperate mask.
My son hopes that if Fox or Disney decided to reboot the character, that DD starts out with the crimson and yellow costume and I agree. We seem to prefer it over the one he's worn over the last 40 years and the retro look couldn't hurt at first. But whatever is done, please make the getup look more like the one in the comics and not some S&M fantasy.
And please introduce The Owl in the next film. He's alot more formidible than people give him credit. B-)

Yeh, I'm fully aware of what Rogue thinks. ) The fight was ridiculous, but as ridiculous as it was, I think it suited the film. The film had a tone which was serious but verged on the sharpest side of absurdity, and I thought the whole film was terrific. (The less said about Electra, however, the better. )
As for Flash, one of my absolute favourite superheroes
This of course begs the question: Have you ever read a Flash comic?
No, but I will. There's a whole collection of comics at Uni (where I borrowed the two previous comics), and I'm pretty certain they have a 'Flash' compliation. At least they did, the last time I checked.

No, Dan, just Money, Chicks & Brains. And Stark doesn't even sob when he's smashed either unlike sober Tobey does.

Why don't you just shut up if you don't like anything I have to say ? Just stop replying. You just disagree all the time so just leave me alone.
Also judging my expertise is also your opinion. If you are going be like that then let me say you have absolute horrid taste in film and now animation. You think everything is masterpiece and brilliant and you even admitted it with a "so what". I love animation, alot more then James Bond, I can indentify an animator in almost any classic golden age cartoon. I can recognize a picture of almost any member of Warners, MGM, or Disney. Don't question me about my expertise, especially since you are dumb enough to say the saturday morning crap Disney has made for forty years is good enough to be compared golden age Disney. Also I never said I know everything about Disney either but I know alot more then most people but alot less compared to animation experts I know. And I know those same people would laugh at you for saying what you said here.
You just disagree all the time so just leave me alone
So what? Only people who agree with you can respond to you? This is a discussion site. People disagree all the time. You take it as a personal insult whenever people dare disagree with you; and not just on cinema, as shown by your lovely contributions to the Kennedy discussion.
I never said it wasn't. You, however, seem to believe that everything you say is fact. Everytime someone says something you don't like, you either attack them, or use a 8-) or a . You clearly have no idea how to partake in a discussion. In this reply, you attack me no less than three times.
If you are going be like that then let me say you have absolute horrid taste in film and now animation.
You don't get it. You may not like what I say, however you do NOT have a right to attack my taste. You don't have a right to say I have 'absolutely horrid taste' since you don't determine what is good taste. Perhaps you haven't noticed, but nobody else on this site attacks other people's taste. Everyone else on this site respects that other people have different taste.
You know, I don't think much of your taste in the slightest. However, I do not attack it and call it 'absolutely horrid'; you do, which makes me wonder why you would join a discussion site in the first place.
You think everything is masterpiece and brilliant and you even admitted it with a "so what".
Actually, I don't, so that is simply incorrect, and my saying 'so what' wasn't admitting it. However, you do not determine what I think is or is not brilliant. Your problem is that I regard as brilliant films which you dislike. Well, guess what, simply because you regard X film as terrible does not objectively make it so. You may not like T2, Pulp Fiction or TSWLM; well, that is merely your opinion!
Then perhaps you should join an animation site, where you will be around fellow 'experts,' all of whom will agree with you and you never have your opinion challenged ever again.
I can indentify an animator in almost any classic golden age cartoon. I can recognize a picture of almost any member of Warners, MGM, or Disney.
Good for you. However this does not give you the right to pretent that only your views on animation matter. No matter how much you may think you know about animation, others have the right to an opinion!
Then don't question my expertise and taste! You attack other people's intellect and taste, yet seem to have a problem when people attack your 'expertise.' I wonder why. 8-)
especially since you are dumb enough to say the saturday morning crap Disney has made for forty years is good enough to be compared golden age Disney.
Nice. 8-) Note how at the start, I talked about you attacking people. Well, here you go again. Tthis may shock you, but telling someone that they dumb only makes you seem dumb. I know how intelligent I am and I am secure in my knowledge; something tells me that you're probably quite insecure.
And I know those same people would laugh at you for saying what you said here.
) Yep, this confirms it. You are incredibly insecure. This, BTW, is the third time you attacked me. Rather than descend to your juvenile level, I'll just say that you definitely need to learn how to act on a chat site.

I really am not going waste my time yet again to break down every single stupid thing you say about me. I have heard it all from you before, you are a broken record. You are also an ignoramous in the highest order who does call everything that comes out as genius. I said to stop replying just for the sake to stop wasting your time and mine because you always say the same things over and over, "that is your opinion and I think it's brilliant". Of course you are too stupid to grasp this.

Thankyou for this. This proves my point exactly. You resort to personal insults and attacks all the time. The reason you can't break down anything I say is because you know it's true. So, thanks, for proving yet again, what a nasty person you truly are.
I will say this though; I do NOT call everything that comes out as genius. That is factually incorrect. If anyone is stupid or an 'ignoramous in the highest order', it is you.

So I am proving your point by not breaking down your post ? Yes, more of that flawless logic of yours. Why should I break it down ? It's the same stuff you always say. You don't make counter arguments, you just say it's all my opinion.

No, I really don't. This may come across as a shock to you, but I actually know whether or not I call everything genius. I know my tastes slightly more than you do, so cut the c*** about my calling everything genius.
) Have you read any of my posts? 8-) No, Rick, I don't regard anything with explosions in it as brilliant, although action/martial arts are my favourite genres. Instead of telling me what I think is brilliant, perhaps you could, gasp, read my posts, or even ask me?!

You know what, just shut the **** up. You and Damn Stupid.
I am not going give in to sheep mentality like you your idiotic cohort. I don't love something and I say my opinion. I don't have to write "IMO" every five secounds and don't defend something by just saying "it's just your opinion". But this will fall on deaf ears as usual so go ahead Dan Same, break down my post to make your petty rebuttles about how everything is my opinion.
you've been here for years and will still be here long after Ricks' gone. perhaps if we all just ignore him he might get the message and tone it down a notch
Hopefully you're right.

8-)
God, that is even worse then the movie.
Don't leave Spidey out of the 'bad TV incarnations" mix...
I remember those goggles on his mask, his spider web that looked like a tow-rope, and J Jonah Jameson having a really bad perm...
Pixar is the best studio in this day and age. 60 years ago, they would have been considered on par with Terrytoons.
Those movie are all overblown, obnoxious "movie rides". Both those series are the epitomes of bad adventure films.
.
I love NO COUNTRY but that dosen't excuse all of the other **** they are doing.
Well since those started off as souless animated films with songs, it's not hard to imagine them being live action musicials. I can't debate the quality of those plays since I have never seen them.
Don't lecture me about Walt Disney. I know alot more about the studio at it's peak and animation in general then you ever could.
Well you got one right. The soul of Disney has been bastardized year by year to be nothing but a bunch obnoxious tween franchises and saturday morning quality animated films and TV. The Disney that Walt wanted is long, LONG gone.

No, but I will. There's a whole collection of comics at Uni (where I borrowed the two previous comics), and I'm pretty certain they have a 'Flash' compliation. At least they did, the last time I checked.
Indeed. See above. :v
:v At least he's a real superhero, unlike Tony Stark, who has no superpowers whatsoever. :v )

Nice. 8-) Note how at the start, I talked about you attacking people. Well, here you go again. Tthis may shock you, but telling someone that they dumb only makes you seem dumb. I know how intelligent I am and I am secure in my knowledge; something tells me that you're probably quite insecure.
I guess I'll take your word for that.
) Yep, this confirms it. You are incredibly insecure. This, BTW, is the third time you attacked me. Rather than descend to your juvenile level, I'll just say that you definitely need to learn how to act on a chat site.
Yes you really do. Titantic, T2, any Tarantino film, Brosnan Bond films, and anything with an explosion in it.
I make alot of counter-arguments. You're the one who don't; you just attack and abuse. When was the last time you responded to an opposing opinion without resorting to personal abuse and mockery? It's never happened. You also fail to see that your opinion is just that. If you're going to pretend that your opinion is fact, then I will keep on reminding you that it isn't fact.
No, I really don't. This may come across as a shock to you, but I actually know whether or not I call everything genius. I know my tastes slightly more than you do, so cut the c*** about my calling everything genius.
I do regard those two films as brilliant. Guess what? I'm entitled to that view.
Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill Vol. 1, absolutely. His other films, less so.
Only GE, however, again, I am entitled to regard it as brilliant.
) Have you read any of my posts? 8-) No, Rick, I don't regard anything with explosions in it as brilliant, although action/martial arts are my favourite genres. Instead of telling me what I think is brilliant, perhaps you could, gasp, read my posts, or even ask me?!
*Yawn*
Thank you.
